tillyfernackerpants · 13/10/2010 16:16

[ignores Kew] Grin

vbus, nice to see you both yesterday. Am heading to toy library tomorrow so will see if they've got the cup!

UptoapointLordCopper · 13/10/2010 18:56

I see Kew showing her true colours. Grin The possibility of absolute power has gone to her head.

UptoapointLordCopper · 13/10/2010 18:56

(Now she's going to tell me I'm not even in Richmond. Well, neither is she. Ha!)

sfxmum · 13/10/2010 19:23

I really should not have gone to the pub just after pick up followed by more drinks at friend's houseHmm dearie me and it is only WednesdayGrin

OP posts:
tillyfernackerpants · 13/10/2010 19:45

sfx, oh dear, sounds like you're on a slippery slope, next thing it will be a cheeky one at lunchtime, then 10am... Grin

sfxmum · 13/10/2010 19:53

well yes I do recall having a cocktail at lunchtime instead of having a meal back at the festival in the Summer but there were extenuating circunstances, promise guv...

as there were today, we got locked out of the house (her house) and the children needed the toilet, pub was nearest and they serve decent food so they ate and we drunk

on another subject, recently on a coffee morning a mum brought a raw food chocolate cake topped with berries which was delicious, I finally have the recipe and can't wait to try it

OP posts:
vbus · 13/10/2010 20:30

Sfx - any excuse to have a drink, I see Wink

KC - have powers been granted? Grin

Tilly - will be grateful if you find it, it's the 2nd one I've lost in the space of a few days (scatterbrain alert)

Westwing - hope you get your back sorted soon

Yes, I think I will ask dad to come over for 1st playdate. Ds1 does go to friend's houses on his own but I have got to know those kids since nursery. Copper - I'm sure this boy is perfectly charming Wink

tillyfernackerpants · 13/10/2010 21:37

Have just booked panto tickets!! Ds1 & I are off to see Sleeping Beauty, though I was tempted by an operatic version of Pinochio, not sure if ds1 would've been as impressed Grin

Kewcumber · 13/10/2010 22:31

yes it is offical you must all bow down beofre me and call me Ma'am.

(though apparently it invovles actual work for no pay- so only power hungry need apply, actually hungry would do better down the job centre)

sfxmum · 14/10/2010 17:06

hello all

tilly Pinochio sounds interesting, dd enjoyed the outdoor Opera this year but she only watched and act.
I will try and get the cheap tickets for the Nutcracker this year, can't quite recall why we could not go last year

have been out and about all day and not much running this week must correct that tomorrow starting to feel twitchy
have tutorial on Saturday I expect there will be a couple of loons do godders amongst the students, there always are on these kind of courses

OP posts:
sfxmum · 14/10/2010 17:08

an act that should be, she did not act this time

also I am starting to worry about the class at dd's school and apparently I am not the only parent with concerns, trying to think of constructive ways of helping, I miss last year's teacher

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 14/10/2010 19:19

is she different to the teacher last year sfx? Reception teacher is particulalry good I think - perhaps they could clone her

sfxmum · 14/10/2010 19:28

very different KewC I liked the Reception teacher very much particularly when she got used to that year after spending quite a lot of time teaching older children.
we will have to keep an eye I think

OP posts:
vbus · 14/10/2010 19:41

Sfx - oh dear that is worrying about teacher. I take it poor spelling is not her only crime

Tilly - panto sounds fun, might consider it for Ds1

Spoke to boy's dad to arrange playdate. He didn't seem that keen to stay for coffee til boy settles, he did agree to it but thought he'd be cramping his son's style if he hung around Hmm Let's see how that works out

For half term meet up, can I suggest Weds 27th at Kew (weather permitting) 10amish? Smile

UptoapointLordCopper · 14/10/2010 19:58

Hello!

Went to work today wearing inside out shirt. DS1 spotted the fact just now.

vbus - I have left DS1 with friends before but always felt quite strange about it. Maybe I'm a closet helicopter parent. I know what he means about cramping their style though... Unfortunately sometimes their style does need cramping. Grin

sfx - what did teacher do? Last year we had one who ate LOTS of junk food, in class. All the kids knew, and seemed to also know that it was not to be emulated. Very savvy kids, these ones. Never too young to know about this "do as I say not as I do" business. Hmm

Won't be able to make Kew for half-term.

sfxmum · 14/10/2010 21:13

lorcopper I wore something inside out the other day but changed by the front door, had a vest under and hoped no neighbours would come out while I was doing itBlush

about teacher it is mostly the lack of control and order in the classroom, it is getting a bit much, I have started hearing mums saying that it is on account of some disruptive children but I feel it is more to do with the teacher's lack of ability to control the classroom, they are only 5/6
there are other things too but I guess we should give her time to settle in and work it out but how much time I wonder?

OP posts:
tillyfernackerpants · 14/10/2010 21:37

sfx, is she a new teacher? Its hard to know when to step back & when to say something. A few parents (me included!) in ds1's class are unhappy about the amount of homework they're getting, but not sure yet if we're going to band together & ask for a meeting with the teacher.

A friend was telling me about a newly qualified teacher at her dc's school, 3 weeks with the reception class and she's gone off sick with stress already Hmm

UptoapointLordCopper · 14/10/2010 21:41

sfx - DS1's class last year was terribly noisy too. They got through quite a few TAs, and DS1 did complain a few times of noise-induced headaches. I didn't do anything about it ... Perhaps I should have.

sfxmum · 14/10/2010 22:10

tilly/lordcopper she is new yes which I suppose means she will have to start somewhere and build on it, but I guess having been in a classroom with the former teacher and now here with this one there is a remarkable difference

I find that when the main TA is there things are noticeable calmer and more ordered, the TA came with the children from Reception

having said that I can't say it is awful just that there are signs that all is not well, dd is happy and learning

OP posts:
sfxmum · 14/10/2010 22:14

tilly about homework and talking to teacher, one of the difficulties is that it can be quite hard to find the best way to intervene,
last year it became apparent that the teacher welcomed comments and keept a conversation going, but a parent told me that the current teacher did not take well to a comment made by a mum and pretty much ignored the her for the rest of the year, although she would speak to her husband Grin very grown up

OP posts:
vbus · 14/10/2010 22:23

Have you got meeting with teacher coming up? Might be a good opportunity to air some of your concerns

Just watched Blindside and really liked it
