Copper, I'll add my stats to yours. Ds1 was easy to potty train, pretty much did it on his own, & ds2 has started telling me when he needs his nappy changing so that's 4 out of 4 Grin

odetothewestwing · 29/09/2010 20:22

Oh good, girls - keep it coming as I was almost thinking of giving up after barely half a day! (pathetic emoticon)

Anyone watching "Food - what goes in your basket" on C4?

UptoapointLordCopper · 29/09/2010 20:26

westwing - we used a lot of tips from > Gina Ford. By the time you've done all the preparation stages they are more or less potty-trained!

UptoapointLordCopper · 29/09/2010 20:27

Not watching the C4 thing but have masterchef on for background noise. NOthing is very interesting. In fact Masterchef is so predictable. Bald person echoing what thin person says. All the time. He ought to get a prize in paraphrasing.

sfxmum · 29/09/2010 20:58

seems ease of potty training has more to do with the child being ready than anything else

good luck westwind

no telly for me just another trashy and unsuitable book for a Lady

anyway to tired had family over and cooked lunch and dinner and prepared alternation tea, Portuguese people like to eatGrin

I waited with both of mine until they wanted to have pants instead of nappies and it went very smoothly both times. DS was about 6 months older than DD, though I think it is just statistically true that boys tend to train later (doesn't make a prediction about any individual boy vs. any individual rule, but just as a guide; I don't think there's any evidence that they are more difficult to train once they are displaying signs of readiness). Out of DD's nursery class about 1 in 5 is potty trained and those are all girls none of the boys has done it yet although there is one very close and probably about to start.

Don't be put off by one bad day if you do think he's ready -- but equally, if you give it a good shot and think he's just not getting it you won't be given a big black mark against your name if you back off and try again in a few months.

sfxmum · 29/09/2010 21:00

that should be too tired and afternoon tea

OP posts:
tillyfernackerpants · 29/09/2010 21:11

sfx, would that book contain a lot of H's by any chance Wink

Copper, doesn't the baldy one shout his paraphrasing as well? Kind of put me off watching it tbh

dustythedolphin · 29/09/2010 21:55

My DS2 is more than ready for potty and refuses to use it :(

Thanks for Traveller refernces I will google them

Survey on house we are trying to buy has come back and I needed a stiff drink after reading it :(

Kewcumber · 29/09/2010 23:05

was wondering what Portuguese delicacy alternation tea was.

Dusty - don;t you always need a stiff drink after reading surveyors report Was it so very bad?

sfxmum · 30/09/2010 10:01

tilly whatever do you mean

dusty how do you feel after the stiff drink, I suppose best know about it now

have plumber visiting later today, obviously the only appointment available is very close to school pick up timeHmm but best get it out of the way before the weather turns cold

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 30/09/2010 16:53

Portugese alternation tea sounds just the thing! Grin

sfxmum · 30/09/2010 16:59

was about to post that you all seem to be out having a lifeGrin

weirdo day here, dh's last day at job no we are not scaredHmm
am unable to focus on anything at all it seems

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 30/09/2010 17:22

Got stuck in the park - kids refused to come home. Eventually did, but DS2 is so tired he keeps sobbing ...

sfxmum · 30/09/2010 17:27

my place is empty took dd and friend to activity after school friend's mum will pick them up, they walk and snack on the way there it takes nearly 45 mins including toilet break, I think they enjoy it, by the river through the green past level crossing seems ideal while dry

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 30/09/2010 20:43

was at Matalan - not sure that can really be described as "having a life" Grin

Kewcumber · 30/09/2010 20:44

ah Copper DS keeps doing this - usually towards teh end of the week...

UptoapointLordCopper · 30/09/2010 20:47

For a boy who wanted to go to bed at 4.30 he took ages to settle down. Maybe he was hungry. Did scoff down a fair bit of Japanese curry.

Plan to take DC to the garden centre and the recycling centre tomorrow! It will be exciting. Hmm

sfxmum · 30/09/2010 21:09

tiredness is awkward in children, very tired hard to settle super active yet falling asleep the next minute, pretty hard to judge and it takes ages to settle into new routine
at least that is my experience with dd

OP posts:
odetothewestwing · 01/10/2010 07:02

LOL SFX, that is my experience with myself re: the tiredness Grin

ds at his little nursery for a few hours this morning - he LOVES it. And I love it. Today, instead of speeding around the house like a fool doing all sorts of very boring "stuff" I shall mostly be having a nice cuppa and hopefully cake involved too, in town Grin

sfxmum · 01/10/2010 09:03

westwing I still feel awkward doing that by myself, keep having this feeling that I should be somewhere else, was thinking of reclaiming Kew Gardens for my sole pleasure too when the weather is pleasant I should like to take my books there for a study session

dh on full on daddy/ house husband mode and it is only 9amHmm I am going outGrin

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 01/10/2010 09:36

I have put my foot down and insist on more than a t-shirt for DS2 to go out in this weather and no arguing. HmmGrin He thinks it's unjust. Is it?

Work, and then night out!

dustythedolphin · 01/10/2010 11:02

Copper I had same problem with DS2 two nights ago, he insisted on coming out with me in the evening to collect DS1 and I insisted he wore at least a fleece over his T shirt. He grumpily relented and then tore the fleece off once he was in the car Grin. He also has that tendency to go into overdrive and then become inconsilable due to being over tired in the evenings..ho hum

I spoke with my Dad at length last night (he is a retired surveyor) about the survey on purchase house and its oK. Its structually sound, though it has various small bits and bobs that do need to be done pronto - so will get a builder friend to have a look to get an idea of cost and then try and negotiate that the vendor either gets the urgent bits done or shaves the cost off the price agreed. Probably not more than 4k I reckon, if that. I felt much better after my Dad decoded the survey and had lovely vivid dreams last night about moving into dream house, though in my dreams the house was in Earl's Court and DS1 was about to start London Oratory Grin (symbolic refernce to Irish Catholic schools in there somewhere)

dustythedolphin · 01/10/2010 11:03

Hope you enjoyed the night out Copper :)

vbus · 01/10/2010 16:30
