hedtin isn;t a particularly nasty chemical though - its silicon (hence no smell no fumes etc) and doesn;t work through chemical means but physical barrier (not too disimilar to the conditioner idea but sticks to the nits and dehydrates them) so they can't develop immunity. But perhaps Irish nits are tougher and have guinness supply stocked up for such eventuality.

dustythedolphin · 25/09/2010 00:31

Grin or perhaps just very adept at hiding from English mammies wielding fine toothed combs...

sfxmum · 25/09/2010 13:38

namechange - there are a few certificates going around, the top one used to be the golden one which gets you Geoffrey, then the Busy Bee for Jennifer I expect they changed names
well done for attending PTA I will go to the next one and also hope to attend the meeting regarding the academy

lordcopper busy be Grin

dolphin apparently united in head scratching, we obviously need another round or two

dh has been sorting out horse riding classes for dd next weekShock

OP posts:
sfxmum · 25/09/2010 13:38

for dd for next week

OP posts:
vbus · 25/09/2010 17:05

hello

Hope everyone enjoying the weekend Smile

Sfx - didn't know Dd was into horses? Shock Hope you and Dusty get rid of the nits soon

Name changer - how is DS feeling about his friend now?

Copper - well done, your garden will look lovely in bloom!

The week has flown by, quiet wkend for us before IL's arrive on Mon. Need cake inspiration...

BTW Is meet up 23rd then? If so will organise a sitter for that date

vbus · 25/09/2010 17:09

Forgot to say meeting at school was brill, visited classroom, chatted to teacher nad found out about learning programme. Refrained from tasting dinners although was surprised to see large queue forming Shock Grin

UptoapointLordCopper · 25/09/2010 19:04

Hello.

Not much doing this weekend. Both kids, especially DS2, quite tired. DS2 decided school is unfair because he didn't get to help in anything. Welcome to the real world! I told him he's expecting too much as it's his first week ...

DS1 just read us his reading book. I must say they are of exceptional quality. They are usually hilarious and entertaining for all.

Parents' evening next week. Attend DS1's teacher talk or DS2's teacher talk? Dilemma.

vbus - is school dinner taster free? Grin

vbus · 25/09/2010 19:16

Yes dinners were free, and the stall was certainly mobbed. You'd think people hadn't eaten for mths Grin

tillyfernackerpants · 25/09/2010 20:47

vbus, lol @ school dinners being mobbed. Our cake stall was mobbed yesterday but think that's slightly more understandable Grin

namechanger, fwiw I think you handled the situation well, v difficult Sad

copper, well done on planting! Will try & get some done this week as well, hoping weather holds

adoptionnamechanger · 25/09/2010 22:42

sfx - well we have Jennifer in situ for weekend so I guess Busy Bee award has transforemd into a Ladybird!

UptoapointLordCopper · 26/09/2010 10:47

Who/what is Jennifer?

Went out last night Shock. Very nice food at Gino's in Ealing. Funny old place. Same look, same people for at least the past 14 years! Best grilled baby squids ever. Grin

Kewcumber · 26/09/2010 11:13

Jennifer is class giraffe but minor league (Geoffry is big giraffe with pyjamas tooth brish etc)

UptoapointLordCopper · 26/09/2010 12:40

Hate school toys. DS2 had nursery bear round once. Nightmare. Accessories waiting to be lost. School doesn't seem to have these kind of torture.

vbus · 26/09/2010 19:31

We had toy penguin last year to look after. But this year thankfully child of the week gets to wear a rosette all week at school, much better idea IMO. At least I won't have to entertain & write about adventures of a rosette Grin

tillyfernackerpants · 26/09/2010 19:56

Yes, no sign of a bear this year like in nursery. Two children a week get a Star of the Week certificate instead, much easier to pin to the wall than remembering to write a diary!

sfxmum · 26/09/2010 20:14

we have assorted stuffed animal visiting am not sure they will keep this up to the last class by then I expect rather than excited the children would be mortified carrying it homeGrin

vbus the horse/pony thing is new we shall see how she does next weekend, on the plus side for me it means taking her to music then handing over to dh for the rest of the day until about 6pm hurrah

very nice weekend but we are all very tired for no particular reason, must be the weather

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 26/09/2010 21:50

no diary thankfully just draw a picture. Which actually was quite good as DS was always very resistent to drawing pictures... Jennifer has converted him.

Kewcumber · 26/09/2010 21:52

DS very unsettled after Fridays talk - "will you still love me tomorrow mummy?" "yes honey I will always love you" "How do you know?" - how the hell do you answer that?! Confused Best I could come up with was "Because thats what mummies do, its my job"

Does anyone still have the manual their child came with because I didn't get one and I need to re-read it.

sfxmum · 27/09/2010 09:29

kewC that is heartbreaking but not unexpected given the circunstances, as for manual right well if only. I expect gentle reassurance is the way to go he is bound to be rattled for a while but these things come and go I guess.
Virtual hug

house in disarray best get on with with before picking up running shoes and going over some puddles

OP posts:
SushiMummy · 27/09/2010 13:25

KC - feel v Sad for the kids. Hope DS feeling OK now. No doubt you are giving him lots of cuddles and words of reassurance...

UptoapointLordCopper · 27/09/2010 14:43

KC - Sad >

sfx - sent you a paranoid email Blush.

vbus · 27/09/2010 14:51

Kc - that is so distressing for you both Sad. Lots of smiles, cuddles and reassurance, hopefully he'll get over it quickly

sfxmum · 27/09/2010 14:52

lordcopper just saw it and replied, don't worrySmile

so about going out, is it the 23rd? if so where?

such is my aversion to house work I went for 5 instead of 3 mile runBlush honest I did not really notice how far I had gone before having to turn backGrin

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 27/09/2010 15:01

Thanks sfx - it's just that I foolishly put them in the cupboard under the stairs before and DS2 is known to lurk about there. Hmm

Thinking cap on for 23rd outing. If it's 23rd?

Off to meander through park to get kids. Will it rain?

dustythedolphin · 27/09/2010 17:11

I've lost my manual too Kew...a few weeks ago DS2 (while we were on holiday, so I wasn';t at work during the day) burts out crying and said: "I miss you mummy when you are at work, I miss you all the time!" :(:(

I've also had: "Are you going to die soon mummy?"

I think you will be very good at reassuring DS as your love for him is very clear but to you both. I constantly marvel at how happy he looks in all your FB pix and how his life has turned out

Back to the more mumdane subject of lice SFX, I think Hedrin just isn't quite "thick" enough. I'm convinced that some of the beasties escape the wet combing when we use Hedrin, whereas when we use Pantene conditioner, I seem to always capture a satisfying bunch of lice Wink

TBH though life is a constant round of de-lousing once they are at school - we have been de-lousing the entire family each week for months but they keep catching them again Angry
