PARIS MEET UP. Let's try again: September?

I cannot do around 11 September as I am going to Bucharest for a party. I could do lunch on 25th, possibly, although it is DD's birthday and she wants to go to Disneyland.

Anyone else, before you all disappear for the summer?

Yes please. I can't do the 11th September or the weekend of the 25th-26th, but otherwise I'm free and would love to meet up.

Sorry, September is fully booked up for me...I'm free from the end of October. Mad, isn't it?

I am seriously busy... I really cannot commit to anything more at this point in September - possibly week of 11 October? But it all goes loopy busy again on 15 October.

Hmm...maybe we should start planning for a Christmas party meet up!

Christmas?!!!! Already fully-booked. How about last week of November? I have FOL's 75th birthday party on weekend of 20 November (which follows hot on the heels of DD's birthday, and I am hosting both) and a Bat Mitzvah in another country on 4 December, but it seems quiet in between...

What do you all do all the time that you are so booked up? Seriously, every evening and lunch time? And does this mean that you can't do anything spontaneously - eg if it's an unexpectedly lovely weekend, you can't go and spend the day at the beach because you've got the Duponts coming for dinner on the Saturday and are out to lunch with family on the Sunday?

I don't have many friends here, although the constant stream of visitors compensates, but I really couldn't cope with that level of planned activities. The thought of it brings me out in hives!

Sorry, MrsS, originally thought you were talking weekends. Sept/Oct unusually busy for me as catching up with all my friends that I haven't seen over the holidays. Couple of weekends away planned, usual sort of thing. Weekdays are tricky for me with babysitters - most of mine are lyceen so prefer only to babysit Friday or Saturday. Lunches, ditto. Don't live in Paris and have two small kids who are only at school part-time.

No, I don't have much free time! Life is very busy - not necessarily how I'd choose it all the time, but hey ho!

But what do you all do that you fill the hours with? (I am genuinely interested to know this.) Is it ferrying children to ballet/advanced Latin/scouts? Do you not go out in the evenings because DP/DH gets home late? My diary is a bit of a nightmare over the next fortnight - I have at least four cocktail parties which will tie me up from 7 to 9, might go out to dinner afterwards too, then have to schlep home, but this is unusual, and due to the time of year (Christmas is the same). I'm really not very booked up the rest of the time during the week - the odd dinner or drink maybe, weekends a bit more problematic if we have visitors. And I can nearly always manage lunch.

Well, obviously I cannot describe my diary for the next few months, but yesterday was fairly typical: took DD to school, got back at 9.15, rushed around like a mad woman doing all the housework and laundry, at 10 someone arrived at 10am for a coffee and to discuss schools/move to England, then I rushed out again at 11.20 with an armful of ironing for the dry cleaners, had lunch with DD, rushed back for 2pm, spent most of the afternoon re-drafting a friend's son's UCAS personal statement and making bookings, rushed back to school for 4.30, spent an hour with DD in the park, took her to the garderie at school and met up with DP for DD's parent-teacher meeting from 5.30 to about 7.15, then went out to dinner. Plus several telephone calls in between.

I am never free for lunch unless I rearrange a child. Which I do once a week only!

Your DD could come to lunch too!

I will email you re your dry cleaners which does ironing. It is either that or find an ironing fairy and I would rather ship shirts and bedding out, frankly.

You could come to lunch with us as we have a recurrent RDV at the piste de trotinette at Parc Monceau!

I can't really 'do lunch' but a spot of afternoon tea fits in with my timetable quite nicely if you want to meet up one day, MrsSchadenfreude!

Bonsoir - unfortunately, if I walk as far as Parc Monceau in my lunch hour, I have an irresistible urge to carry on up Prony and go home! And I wouldn't go back to work.

Teafortwo - yes, can sometimes escape in the afternoon for an hour or so, or nip out for a bit if I am working from home.

I live outside Paris so would love to do a Saturday at the end of October/beginning of November as an excuse to come and do my Christmas shopping. I work most Saturdays but from mid-October should be slowing down and be able to actually have a whole weekend off.

Flying Cloud, you wouldn't happen to know of any "prestigious" companies that have a lot of high flying English speaking execs in the Chantilly area would you?

It's to do with a job offer through a recruitement agency which as usual are being very mysterious.
