New Thread.

dooney, I thought about you this weekend. I ordered two boxes of Georgia peaches (ds2 loves them!) and spent part of the 4th peeling and cutting them. They are now all in nice little freezer bags with a bit of Fruit Fresh on them.

SO much better than CA peaches!!!

dooneygirl · 06/07/2009 22:52

It isn't peach season here yet for a few months, and I've used up all last year's out of my freezer. Now just have tons and tons of nice new berries in there, but I don't like most berries.

kickassangel · 07/07/2009 01:35

Wow, everyone seems to be 'checking in' for the new thread!

Hi, Mimsy. Some of us are on here quite a lot, so you can still get your mumsnet fix.

Well, atm I am getting stressed by
a) the ever growing urgency of taking a driving test
b) the wasps in my attempt at compost! The little blighters are LIVING in there.

I don't care how unorganic it is, pest control is gonna be called on their sting-y little asses.

Mmm, peaches. I got a nice tin of them today. I am quite sure they will be just as delicious as Jabber's Georgia ones. Definitely. What's fruit fresh?

Dooney, are your lovely DC ok?

The Bunny

jabberwocky · 07/07/2009 03:58

Fruit fresh is ascorbic acid (at least I think that's right). It keeps them from turning brown when they are frozen. They are so wonderful I think I'm going to have to order another couple of boxes before the season is over. Just can't let dh know what I'm spending on fruit

dooneygirl · 07/07/2009 04:11

That's why we u-pick so much. Otherwise it is too expensive. And I love the man who owns the fruit store, because he knows me, and lets me have all the day old stuff for super, super-cheap, which I use for baking.

My 2 are very happy, The Bunny. They've picked berries, played with friends, and had Grandma and Grandpa this weekend (and went fishing with Grandpa and Daddy), and they have the promise of the grandparents coming back this weekend. We're going to DH's stepbrother's wedding this Saturday, and I've got them all excited about the whole pork that is going to be cooked in a pit, and Caitlin's happy because she has a pretty new dress and shoes. Life doesn't get much better for them.

Hi new and newish people. Hope you stay.

SuperBunny · 07/07/2009 19:35

Pork and pretty dresses, life is good Chez Dooney!

I was looking forward to my delicious canned peaches all morning, only to remember I no longer have a bloody can opener I shall spend my afternoon gazing mournfully at the tin

SuperBunny · 07/07/2009 20:46

Is anyone around? I have a question re car insurance...

I have no car and therefore no insurance. My friend said I could borrow hers - will I be covered on her insurance?

kickassangel · 07/07/2009 21:09

almost defintiely not! unless she has some amazing policy that covers ALL drivers.
sorry.

our insurance covers both of us, we are both named.

do you have a US licence? if not, you're illegal for that reason as well.

OP posts:
SuperBunny · 07/07/2009 21:32

I do have a US license, I won't be driving illegally!

mananny · 07/07/2009 21:37

I'm driving for the first time On The Wrong Side Of The Road tomorrow!!!!!! Heathrow to Cornwall. Wish me luck. Have paid a fortune to hire an automatic but by the time I've hoiked all my luggage on the train then bus then cab it would have been around the same amount. Am a bit nervous. Must drive on the LEFT. Must drive on the LEFT. Must drive on the LEFT.

SuperBunny · 07/07/2009 23:28

Good luck mananny!

jabberwocky · 08/07/2009 00:20

Hmm, I thought if you gave the driver permission you were covered? Should be easy to call up her agent and ask.

SuperBunny · 08/07/2009 01:03

That's what I thought. I can use the bus, it just makes it into an all day affair rather than a 20 minute jaunt. Thanks, Jabber

dooneygirl · 08/07/2009 02:34

I think I have harmed Colin for life. I turned on the MJ memorial thingy at the end, and when his daughter came on and cried, Colin started crying. I asked him what was wrong, and he said he hurt, but he didn't know where. I asked him if he wanted me to turn off the girl crying, and he said yes, and was all better.

On a different note, I have high cholesterol. I thought it was odd, because the Dr. knew before I told him it ran in my family, because somehow the numbers indicated that it was genetic, and not from what I was eating.

mananny · 08/07/2009 09:32

That part of the memorial service was the only part that really choked me up Dooney, his daughter was so obviously deeply upset and distressed and I hate seeing anyone particularly children like that I hope she and her brothers have a lot of love and support around them right now, sod the money/debt/reputation etc these children have lost their Daddy.

SuperBunny · 08/07/2009 12:33

That part was awful, wasn't it. Those poor children. Colin is so sweet.

What will happen about your cholesterol level, Dooney? Are you ok?

dooneygirl · 08/07/2009 15:18

I got choked up then, too, mananny. I think their father wasn't a very good person, and at best, he was really odd, but that can all be forgotten when you see a child mourning the loss of daddy.

Yeah, I'm fine. I just really thought it was interesting that he could look at a page with a bunch of numbers and tell it ran in the family without any history sitting in front of him, since I've never been there before. Most of my family are really high. My sisters are much younger than I am, and hover around 300. Mine is in the low range of high, so he wants me to try things like fish oil to get it down, and then he'll check it in 6 months to a year to see what has happened.

SuperBunny · 10/07/2009 14:37

Right, 11 hours. I'm scared. My apartment isn't empty, I can't shut my cases and D was going to say goodbye to his friends at the park but it's raining.

Thank you all for this thread - for your friendship and support over the years and for tolerating my incessant whinging and moaning and being rude about Americans. I am very glad I found you on here. xxx

kickassangel · 12/07/2009 01:58

Good luck, sb. Hope you enjoy england when you get there!

don't think you moaned that much, i can do much better if you'd like me to! feeling really quite sad about you 'going' - as if i ever really met you. really hope things work out well for you back in blighty. must be v hard to move back again, saying goodbye is always so difficult.

bon voyage
(kickass waves a snotty white hanky & snivels despite her best attempts to keep a stiff upper lip)

think i need a cup of tea & a sit down.

Aw, Kickass

Flight and airport were fab & BA were brilliant.

Had tea and fish and chips as soon as we arrived and went out for breakfast today. Then to the beach and park and Tescos

Hope you are all ok. I'm sad to be gone but relieved in a way.

jabberwocky · 12/07/2009 22:57

I'm so glad the trip went well You must be having a marvelous time getting re-acquainted with everyone/everything.

nooka · 13/07/2009 00:38

Ah, found the new thread! Good title. I'm glad everyone managed their flights OK

I am horribly hot today, it's 35C this weekend. Last weekend we went into the hills, but we were much too lazy this week.

I'm not too keen on MJ at the mo though, because the campsite we went to last week (lovely secluded spot - took 30 mins of very rough logging road to get there) staged a MJ memorial of sorts and it was bloody appalling!! I never liked him much the first time round (not my taste in music) but Billy Jean etc blaring out at 1.30am I really felt like getting a rifle and shooting out their car stereos...

"Teenagers" as ds and dd would say...

Funny thing was that when I was listening to the fisherfolk (the majority of campers) on the lake next morning they didn't mention a thing! Maybe this is a Canadian thing

NanaJo · 13/07/2009 01:14

Nooka, thanks for the link! Very hot here (Prince George), too. DH has just taken the Ds1 and 2 to swim at a nearby lake while I get on with the packing/sorting for our upcoming trip on Wed. We're flying (6 1/2 hour flying time) to Ottawa for 2 weeks to visit my sister and her family. Boys are very excited as they have never been on an airplane.

Just a little background for you. I was raised in the UK (Sussex) until age 15 (long, long ago... ) when my parents divorced and my Canadian mother moved back to Canada with me and my younger sisters. My Dad lives in Suffolk with his wife and over the years I have been back to the UK several times to visit them. So glad to have found mumsnet!

Earlybird · 13/07/2009 02:10

So ..........here you all are!

I am very out of touch with comings and goings here. Superbunny - have you left us and returned to Blighty for good? Mananny too?

We're off for a 3 week trip to London at the end of July. Not quite sure who we'll be able to see, as many friends will be off on their summer hols, but it was the only timing that suited us. No matter what, will be great to be back on familiar and much-loved ground.
