That's really sad SB , couldn't you rent Dinner out instead? One of my bosses friends who is childless wanted to borrow a cute child for a random event, and even offered to pay

Hi SB

Thanks for the help, Cali. What is babygrade blood? Am impressed with your DH, whatever it is. I had no idea we aren't allowed to give blood. I always did in England but never here. Now I know not to bother.

Mananny - Where do I sign up?

I understand the BSE thing, I just think it is ridiculous. BSE & CJD has been found in other countries. Even the US. Although, iirc, they blamed Canada.

And what about foreigners who came to Britain for vacation and ate our beef? They may be unclean too.

OP posts:
kickassangel · 15/03/2009 03:01

anyone who spent a signif. part of the 90s in the uk (and i think it stipulates uk, although many countries had similar levels) is ineligible to give blood in the us, so they also exclude any us citizens hwo lived in the uk.

ali - according to visa services, you can ONLY get a visa from outside the us, has to be in person etc dh has just decided he's not going to leave the us unless he really HAS to for the next 2 years. as his mother refuses to come & visit us, that pretty much rules our him seeing her. he is delighted.

Germans, rude? Never!

OP posts:
kickassangel · 15/03/2009 03:22

thing is, didn't other countries have equally high levels of bse? the french 'broke' the story in an effort to increase their share of the european beef trade, but on investigation, levels in france & other european countries were comparable? iirc?
perhaps i was reading the daily mail!

SuperBunny · 15/03/2009 03:26

That's my point. It has been an issue in other places - it seems ridiculous that Britain is still singled out.

we had friends round for dinner last night, and after eating duck with plum, followed by cheesecake, we sat round talking about all the different fast food & what was the most disgusting, but gorgeous, thing we ate!!

SuperBunny · 15/03/2009 14:24

LOL, I love conversations like that.

I've still never been to White Castle.

Not fast food but my current one is jelly. It makes me feel sick thinking out eating a pile of wobbly animal fat and seeing it wibble on the plate only makes it worse. Yet, when DS has it, I always have some and it is never as revolting as it should be.

Pronunciation question: How do people in your area say the words 'egg' and 'leg' ?

Here they say 'ayg'and 'layg'and it makes me want to punch them. Clearly I am being unreasonable but I was wondering if it is a midwestern thing or an American thing in general. I can't remember how they said it in the East coast but I don't remember being irritated by it.

i shall have to start a conversation about easter eggs soon & report back.
i am getting so used to the accent that i don't notice it much, but still find people don't always undersatnd me!

kickassangel · 15/03/2009 23:09

btw, sb, did you say somewhere that you used to live in leeds? i used to teach there! snall world (well, england is small)

dooneygirl · 16/03/2009 00:24

OMG, SB, I love the song and James Brown, but seriously was going to refrain from posting the video because it was so dorky. I did turn it up and listen to it with the picture off, though. All I can say is that it is probably a good thing that we never had a conversation in which my family or I had to use the words egg or leg, because it wouldn't have made you happy.

Back from the wine and cheese festival. Jabber and I were supposed to meet up, but her family was beat, and I can't say we're doing much better. I just wish we could get rid of the cough that has been hanging around at night for the past month or so. DH's aunt and uncle will be here tomorrow to fly out of the Portland airport, and I have to work at school tomorrow, so barely get to catch my breath before they get here.

Off to make breakfast for dinner, as I have no food to speak of.

anorak · 16/03/2009 02:00

Hello all. Who fancies a couple of days in Boston? I have to come over Weds and Thurs night just for a clinic appointment. I have the hotel booked. You'd have to share a kingsize bed with me. Did this last week with my sister - also DH and I sleep in a kingsize bed, you can certainly get by without even knowing the other one is there.

SuperBunny · 16/03/2009 02:14

I love breakfast for dinner, Dooney.

If I could leave the state, I'd be there Anorak! I hope someone else can make it.

Yes, Kickass, my house is in Leeds. I also taught there not far from the White Rose Ctr.

I was at work tonight - my volunteer job - and one of the children died I do work with very sick kids but they don't die. It is awful
