.... how big the spiders are getting in England these days ...

To misquote the great Crocodile Dundee:

"That's not a spider. This is a spider!"

Photos on my profile if you dare.

nappyaddict · 29/09/2008 01:47

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hello!!

SuperBunny · 29/09/2008 01:54

Hello!

arfishy · 29/09/2008 02:32

LOL - you think we were going to get any closer so we could put it into perspective?

It took DP 5 bottles of beer and an entire can of mortein to get it under control.

It was ENORMOUS.

Ozziegirly · 29/09/2008 02:37

Good god. I would have an absolute heart attack if I saw a spider like that in my house. Surely it's too big even to fit down the hoover nozzle? I have no idea what to do if I see one as i am phobic and DH, although not phobic, would never be able to get close enough to put a glass over one.

We had our first huntsman in the other night but it was much smaller. And green. It got hoovered.

arfishy · 29/09/2008 03:01

Hoover? Not in a million years. That's why we had to unleash chemical warfare on it.

ghosty · 29/09/2008 03:55

I was brave enough to empty a can of mortein on a huntsman (half that size) earlier this year and it was like a scene from the Terminator. Every time I thought it was dead it came back alive ....
In the end I was shouting "Diiiiieeeeeeeeee you baaaaaaaaaaaaaaarstaaaaaaaaaaaaaard" at the top of my voice. I could never hoover up a spider like that ...
I told DH that if he hadn't been here last night I would have got the children out of bed and gone to a motel for the night ...
Where do you live Ozziegirl?

PS. Good to see you mamama

Arfishy ... did your DH try to kill your spider by getting it pissed? Confused

OP posts:
arfishy · 29/09/2008 04:06

LOL no. He had to drink the beer to get the courage to get close enough to use the Mortein. It was rearing up .

Our garden has two levels - a courtyard one [safe] and steps leading up to a grassy, tree -filled spider haven. Rather foolishly we had a big pool up there and that's where it was sitting. So DP had to go up there into the grassy/spidery bit not knowing if there was a whole colony of mutant huntsmen while dd and I stayed in the living room screaming.

arfishy · 29/09/2008 04:07

Oh and at mortein-proof huntsmen coming back from the dead.

sunnydelight · 29/09/2008 04:21

That's why I had the man round last week for the annual spray!

As someone who couldn't stay in a room with a thumbnail size spider once upon a time huge sympathy ghosty. In a rather bizarre way having to confront a huntsman in DDs bedroom days after we arrived (and DH was out) was good for me,k though I couldn't believe how they can outrun the spray! They still make me feel a bit sick though.

ghosty · 29/09/2008 04:22

Trees = bad
In australia anyway.
The Terminator Huntsman came in when we had a gardener cut down some trees down the side of the house
I am thinking of moving into the city and living in a concret high rise. The children can play on the tram tracks when they get bored.

big wusses both of you - what do you think thongs are for!!!!

Actually I have never seen one that big and we do not get them that big here in brisbane.

Marine stingers - from about Mackay north - have to swim in stinger suits, old pantyhose or even better stinger proof enclosurs so you do not get stung by box jellyfish!!

here

eidsvold · 29/09/2008 04:25

ghosty - have you had your first snake yet???

ghosty · 29/09/2008 04:32

I would positively welcome a poisonous snake into the house and give it a cup of tea and a chocolate brownie before seeing one of those 'harmless' huntsmen again ...

Do you really not have them that big in Brissie Eids????

OP posts:
eidsvold · 29/09/2008 04:35

not with that thick body like that and not as big as an apple - we have big ones - usually downstairs in the rumpus - never had one in the bathroom. Most of them are in the shed - dh's domain really.

2sugars · 29/09/2008 05:45

Pah, you lightweight. Seen bigger in Oxford.

Ozziegirly · 29/09/2008 05:59

I would really love a house in the country (or even the northern beaches) with a garden, but it's having these monsters that really puts me off.

I'm on the north shore for whoever it was who asked. On the third floor, safely away from most spiders (please).

I may need to get this bug killing stuff though in case I find a spider too big to fit in the hoover. God, even the thought of that fills me with horror.

arfishy · 29/09/2008 06:30

Actually, my normal reaction to huntsmen is to scream and run away. They're just so hairy and muscular.

Ghosty you have been very brave. I don't even have a phobia and wouldn't go near one. They're big enough to lift up those glasses for a start.

ClaudiaSchiffer · 29/09/2008 06:50

Blilmey that is horrible. I was sitting on the loo once and glanced over at the sink unit (about 15cm from my face) and staring back at me was a HUGE huntsman, I, of course, screamed and ran out. DH just said, in that laid back Ozzie way, "oh them, thay're great - they eat all the flies you know".

Never had a redback tho.

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 29/09/2008 06:56

msdisillusioned · 29/09/2008 07:00
