.... how big the spiders are getting in England these days ...

To misquote the great Crocodile Dundee:

"That's not a spider. This is a spider!"

Photos on my profile if you dare.

Yes, Melbourne is fab ...
But I have seen soooo many fuck off huntsmen spiders now that it isn't a joke anymore.
Did you ever read my thread about the giant spider joy riding on the back of an old lady's car?

The strange thing is that people tell me that they never see them. I am beginning to think I am attracting them ...

Right. I really am gooing to bed now. Thanks for listening (or at least letting me bleat on). I am sure tomorrow, in the cold light of day, I will see the funny side and when the other aussie MNers come on I will joke around and slap my thigh and be all 'Croc Hunter' about it with lots of and etc ...
In the mean time it was nice to while away a sleepless hour with you all back in England

WideWebWitch · 28/09/2008 15:45

Just showed dd the photos on your profile Ghosty and said this is my friend and this is the spider she found in her bath and DD said "out. You. Go" which is a line from the book "aaaggh Spider"

serendippity · 28/09/2008 15:50

erugh! Ok, feeling slightly less freaked out by the monster i found in my conservetry last night now
just a hunstman tho... i thought they were super poisenous? or am i totaly wrong?

ghosty · 28/09/2008 22:59

Thank you Ratface, for being so kind
Hi WWW ... yes, your DD is right. Out. He. Went. ... DH chucked him over the back fence.
I didn't sleep very well, I have to say ... am a bit worried about my severe physical reaction to this ... at the time, the nausea and the sweating and shaking but also through the night I slept really badly. In fact I didn't sleep much at all. I sweated all night and was very aware of my heart racing so much I thought it was going to explode .... DH suggested this morning I get some psych help
serendippity ... Huntsman spiders are absolutely harmless. And also very useful as they keep the other insects at bay. They just look horrific. But redbacks, which look pretty harmless and are not that big and quite pretty actually, pack a very nasty bite. DH found 3 in the garage a couple of weeks ago whilst tidying up.

jesus thats one big spider.

why did i look?!

will never complain about size of uk spiders again (& make mental note to strike australia off future holiday destination list!)

solidgoldbrass · 28/09/2008 23:13

NOw that's why I will never go to Australia. Ewwwww!

jobschmob · 28/09/2008 23:36

The spiders and roaches there are scary. But the slugs here in Scotland (when found in your kitchen) are just as bad methinks.

arfishy · 28/09/2008 23:44

I've put a photo of the one that tried to take DP down on my profile.

I've never heard screaming or seen fleeing like it.

brimfull · 28/09/2008 23:45

omg

I wouldn't beable to sleep either ghosty

hypnotherapy is what you need

I'd need some before I ever went to Australia.

brimfull · 28/09/2008 23:46

arfishy-that doesn't look real !!!

ghosty · 29/09/2008 00:43

LOL @ 'competitive spidering' ...
arfishy ... I knew someone would come up with 'My spider is bigger than yours'

I might start a thread entitled "AIBU to wallow in my fear of fuck off huge loofahs without some blardy Aussie comparing Spider sizes?"

OP posts:
ghosty · 29/09/2008 00:45

But you see you haven't put anything in your pic to compare it with ... you can clearly see my DH's hand and a large Royal Gala apple AND an A4 piece of paper (with my 40c off fuel voucher). I think you have magnified your pic and it was actually only the size of a thumb nail.

OP posts:
nappyaddict · 29/09/2008 01:07

this is the one and only reason i can never ever ever go to australia! that and snakes.

SuperBunny · 29/09/2008 01:29

Yuck!

We get these but they are not venomous. Very fast though and almost impossible to catch. That is not my foot in the picture btw

nappyaddict · 29/09/2008 01:34

SB - where are you?
