Wow we filled the thread guys. So as I was about to Say UR you've probably had squirrel if you've eaten Chinese . Think I've had most things. Just don't ask eat. Roasting hot here, very busy but having a blast. Enjoyed our new gym yesterday and picnic in the park tonight which was wonderful. Live music, handsome young men - need I say more.

Hi folks,

Here is a site that has cottage industry, eco-friendly, funky, artsy, groovy gifts made by SAHMs. Mostly baby stuff.

hyenacart.com/

But, I like the glass mama/baby jewelry
hyenacart.com/familytreeglassstudio/index.php?viewall=1

and

the ceramics
hyenacart.com/Risingsunearthworks/

Un...fortunately, my friend who makes nappie covers using recycled rock band t-shirts is fully swamped for the holidays and every upscale boutique has bought her out.

poetmum · 12/12/2008 00:58

Oh dear, Etsy! I never knew! How delightful!

Othersideofthechannel · 12/12/2008 06:02

Thanks, I'll check out those links later today. She does pottery and likes to shop.

cosmicdust · 12/12/2008 14:27

Hi! Can I join you? I live in East Texas & I'm originally from Birmingham, England. I'm married to a Texan & we have a 4 1/2 month old DS. I've been living in Texas for 3 1/2 years & I like it here, although I do miss Chicken Korma!

poetmum · 12/12/2008 14:49

Cosmicdust - Wherever anyone goes, they miss the Indian food. When we were living in London, we missed the flavors of our favorite restaurant here.

Now that we are here we miss the olive oil, cheeses, sausages and olives from Broadway market. DS misses Quorn sausage and Marmite rice cakes.

Nothing like food to say "home."

SuperBunny · 12/12/2008 17:49

Hello Cosmicdust, welcome!

I feel a new list coming on.

I am going for a curry tomorrow night! I haven't had one for years. There is quite a large Indian and Pakistani population in Chicago but they live on the other side of the city and that's where all the good restaurants are. I'm already thinking about what to get.

I miss marmite ricecakes too.

Otherside, will you let us know what you decide?

Hello everyone

Update: no reply yet LOL

But I went out and bought myself the new Blackberry Storm in a fit of rage against ATT and their crappy customer service, after one of their employees killed my iPhone and thye wanted to charge ME $375 to get a new one and reactivate it!!!!!!!!! So, I have written a strongly worded letter to the manager of that store.

Anyhoo, 3 Finals down, one to go... am desperate for sleep and I can't wait for this semester to be over! Am also job hunting still.... yuckity yuck....

SuperBunny · 12/12/2008 18:44

AT&T are a bit crap but at them breaking your phone. How is the new blakcberry? My current mobile looks like the first one I ever had, about 10 yrs ago.

Good lukc with the last of the finals. Sorry about job hunting.

And thanks for the update!

dooneygirl · 12/12/2008 19:11

Welcome all newcomers. I get excited when there's more people on the thread. Probably much more excited than is warranted.

I've been waiting for that list to emerge, SB.

This morning we've made our dough ornaments. They're in the oven as we speak. We made our batches of snowman soup for the gifts the kids are supposed to bring for their Christmas parties on Monday and Tuesday. It actually tasted pretty good, as we had to sample it before it went out, because we didn't want to send out something that didn't taste up to standards.

We have to do Christmas cookies tomorrow. Colin is still paranoid we aren't going to have them for Santa. We're making plenty, so we can freeze them.

A big story of thanks for the in-laws. Long story short, the reason I wrapped my pressies so early, is I've been getting them here and there since September, and had an ugly feeling Caitlin had more. She did, so there was something I wanted for Colin that was on a great sale. After saying they would hold it for me twice, and then selling it, I gave up on the local store. I called the one where ILs live, and they had one, but wouldn't hold it for me. I called IL's, and they were getting their shoes on before the call was over, and rushed down right then to get it for Colin. SMIL said they're retired, and they will always be there for us at the drop of a hat to do anything that will make the kids smile. (wiping tear away emoticon)

After your story, mananny, it just reinforces how okay I am to have a old, cheap cell phone that does nothing but make calls and text. And I don't text.

jabberwocky · 12/12/2008 19:26

Have sent an email to nephew with a little nudge

We switched to AT&T this summer and I have not been particularly impressed. Another at them breaking your phone!

Othersideofthechannel · 12/12/2008 22:10

Hey, thanks to everyone for your ideas for my Christmas gift. I have got inspiration.
But now I have another problem. None of the web sites which sell what I want to buy will accept card payments from non US residents and I can't get the phone numbers to work.

What does it mean when a phone number has a 1 in front? (I am used to a three digit area code (prefixed by the country code of course) Is is possible to dial these 1 numbers from Europe?

TIA

SuperBunny · 12/12/2008 23:06

you have to dial 1 if you dial an out of area number. So, if I want to call an 800 number, I have to dial 1-800.

My Dad always puts my address and phone number when he uses his credit card. You are meant to use your billing address but it seems to work.

Dooney, you have been very busy. Snowman soup looks like a lot of fun. Your inlaws are wonderful.

Does anyone have a recipe for cactus candy? DD was asking about it. I remember Califrau making prickly pear syrup and I thought, since you people are the fount of all knowledge...

jabberwocky · 13/12/2008 15:12

Apparently there is an email coming your way, mananny

mananny · 13/12/2008 17:41

LOL thanks Jabber, I'll keep an eye out for it

SuperBunny · 13/12/2008 18:29

What is Catcus candy?

I went downtown this morning to the big library where you can borrow a piano for an hour. It was lovely. I played (badly) and sang (not so badly) and listened to the very talented man in the next room playing amazing jazz. It was only when I left I noticed that there were 2 doors to the room to make it more soundproof and I only closed one of them
