I just finished the old thread by accident

OP posts:

Apparently very seriously. They're in China right now, if that makes any difference (not that it does for me). If anyone I knew would name their child that, it does not surprise me it is them, but I have to say I am still surprised.

mananny · 22/07/2008 03:25

I'm sorry but Gaius Marcus ??????? Don't get me wrong but if I were to meet one named that I would have to report the parents for abuse. That is an awful name. It would be shorted to Gay Mark. Poor child. (I could deal with Maximus if they are going for a Gladiator theme but Gaius is just awful).

Sorry if that offends.

dooneygirl · 22/07/2008 03:35

Mananny, EVERY SINGLE PERSON has said Gay Mark after they believed they actually named him that. Not that there are that many I've told, but still. Even DH's aunt said the same thing when she called, because she use to be a teacher, and realizes that is how kids are, and it will happen.

mananny · 22/07/2008 03:47

Exactly. That poor child will need therapy for the rest of his life. Who on earth would subject their most dearest child to that?????

(And I have met children called, among other things, Gay Virginia (girl), Landon Bighill (boy) and Denise Dennis (girl, but think Denis Denis by Blondie))

Maybe parents thesedays are cashing in the embarrassment checks BEFORE their kids are awful teenagers? Who knows. It's still cruel.

UnderRated · 22/07/2008 03:54

Gaius? Really? What was wrong with Marcus? Have they registered the name? Oh dear

Hello MrsSprat, how's Toronto?

All these bags... lol @ Cali and her 'winter' one & Suedonim wanting it. You know, some of us do have real winters. With snow and everything.

Cali, who else's DH's underwear have you been looking at?

I spotted a Michaels at the weekend. I resisted (because BF was driving and it seemed a bit rude to insist we stop) but will have a good look round pop in next time. You know, for essentials.

I'll do a list

OP posts:
UnderRated · 22/07/2008 03:57

lol @ Denise Dennis? What are these parents thinking? And poor Gay Virginia. Some people should not be allowed to name children. I quite like the name Gaye but you have to very careful with it. I'd never use it myself but I know a lovely one.

I keep forgetting pants aren't really pants. After 4 years, I should get a clue.

So nice, I did it twice apparently

The website was down, I am sure I didn't post it twice. I blame tech

OP posts:
mananny · 22/07/2008 04:50

Yeah I couldn't get on for ages just now... so I went on a chocolate hunt and discovered a secret stash of Maltesers I've been saving for a rainy day!!!! So now I feel really sick as I ate about thirty in the time it took for this damn page to load. Damn tech. LOL.

UnderRated · 22/07/2008 05:00

lol - Tech has a lot to answer for

I keep looking for a secret chocolate stash but I don't seem to have one. My mum is coming in a couple of weeks, so I should get some. Thing is, it only lasts a couple of weeks

OP posts:
mananny · 22/07/2008 05:17

I should have added my secret stash for a rainy day was put aside at the beginning of last week when my sister first came over here LOL. So basically it was hardly a secret. I just tried my damnedest to ignore it. I did pretty well lasting over a week til I succumbed.

MrsSprat · 22/07/2008 14:04

Ooh, thanks for the list. I've been meaning to join since I arrived in June, but don't like jumping on long threads, so have resisted the temptation even to lurk!

Toronto is great, nicer than I had been led to believe. I have a just turned 7 mo DD. DH is working out here until end Sept, then we go back to UK (London). Missing out on a Toronto winter - what a pity, eh?

UnderRated · 22/07/2008 14:10

That's good timing, MrsSprat - missing the winter an' all. Enjoy Toronto. I always wanted to go there but still haven't managed.

Anyone can join in, we're not a clique. Are we?

Well done on chocolate lasting a week, Mananny. That's longer than mine survives.

@ nitch and click

OP posts:
mananny · 23/07/2008 02:47

It drives me mad, all the little changes the Americans have made to the Queens English. One pet peeve is aluminum. It's ALUMINIUM FFS. Then there's check, when it's CHEQUE. Sidewalk instead of pavement. Trunk instead of boot. I could go on all day. The ironic thing is, once people find out I am English, they want me to say the words in English for them. It drives me mad.

Apart from that I quite like it here LOL.

UnderRated · 23/07/2008 02:53

LOL, that happens to me too - people always want me to say the English words. Parcel is a particular favourite

I read somewhere that the British used the word aluminum first and added the extra 'i' later. I still think aluminium is better though.

OP posts:
mananny · 23/07/2008 03:04

Parcel is very random LOL. I get asked to say garage.

dooneygirl · 23/07/2008 03:10

So would you all say pants for me????

And, my personal favorite, all the different ways you can use the word piss.

I'm off to go click the nitch in my check.

UnderRated · 23/07/2008 03:10

I don't even know how I used to say garage. I fear I now say gararsh (cannot spell that phonetically)

OP posts:
UnderRated · 23/07/2008 03:11

"pants"

OP posts:
mananny · 23/07/2008 03:18

"pants"

LOLOLOL.

I used to say garidge. They say garaaaaaaaahge. I now say gariaaaaahge.

Have finally started to get a bit of a Boston accent on certain words. Woooorter has become wahter all of a sudden. And car is now cahr. Am devastated.

Thanks for your input on my other thread UR. Much appreciated. God only knows why I can't have a quiet, easy, simple life.
