I just finished the old thread by accident

OP posts:
jabberwocky · 06/09/2008 17:27

We've got lots and lots of trees down. One fell in the backyard and blocked the neighbors drive. Dh was delighted at the opportunity to use his chainsaw

We will be forever grateful to Ohio Edison. They came into town last night and our power was back on within a few hours. Everyone cheered when we saw them coming down the street. It was like the liberating forces coming into Paris, lol.

SuperBunny · 06/09/2008 22:37

Boys and their power tools, eh

Am glad Ohio Ed saved the day.

Pic of cello on profile Cali. Plus one of DS wearing my lispstick but will take that one off later.

Din-ner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm trying to get excited about the cello, but I'm a brass and woodwinds girl, I'm afraid.

Anorak, are you okay with Ike?? I saw that some of the islands of the Bahamas were being hit pretty hard, and it didn't look like ones that were very populated, but am hoping you're not getting hammered.

Jabberwocky--I never heard Arkansas had any problems with Gustav. I did not know we needed to worry about you.

jabberwocky · 08/09/2008 03:05

Brass here too

Has anyone heard from anorak?

School is open tomorrow for the first time since Tuesday

SuperBunny · 08/09/2008 04:02

Hope people in Hurricane areas are ok. Very scary.

I too, am a wind girl at heart. Strings are hard to play

Oh, Cali, I saw Andrew Davies and the Opera Choruses. Was wonderful. Am wondering if my parents are still friends with his sister. And, if such a tenuous link is enough to get free tickets to a real Opera

Babstefani · 08/09/2008 08:20

seriously what is wrong with you all??????????

SuperBunny · 08/09/2008 14:01

lol Cali

I am struggling to play only one string - when I use the D string, I always catch the G string too. I am blaming the cheap cello. It couldn't possibly be me, could it?

It's such a pain when a home in the UK may have problems. I hate having to deal with mine. Or having to get someone else to deal with it.

Right, off to park or zoo. Can't decide which.

anorak · 08/09/2008 14:32

Hello, I'm fine, thanks for asking!

No hurricanes have hit us this year - we're nowhere near the Bahamas, nowhere near anywhere really - the nearest next place is the mainland of North Carolina, about 700 miles away.

It's a hot and sunny 85 degrees today with hardly a breath of wind.

dooneygirl · 09/09/2008 01:23

Duh me!!!!! No more multi-tasking and MNing. I know you live in Bermuda, but my mind did Bahamas for some reason.

I am in a full-on panic. DH's birthday is on Friday. I have no clue what to get him. I never not know what to get him. I've got one slight idea, but it is boring and is rather abysmal for a present. He's one of those pesky people that don't want much, and most of what he does want is pretty cheap, so he's gotten it already. The only thing I have that is under control is the cake.

I hate buying for men. I can only ever think of socks which no-one really wants (except me, I love socks), or ties or a watch. I am a bit worried about xmas presents already. But you have cake sorted, Dooney, and that is the important bit.

How about a game? A book. Um, no idea.

Actually, I wish you wouldn't mention your DH because when you do, I imagine a hairy-footed little hobbit

Cali, the lego ice cube thingy arrived. I am disappointed. I was expecting the cubes to be lego-sized but they are bigger. I think my Lego bricks will just look stoopid.

jabberwocky · 09/09/2008 04:00

dooney, I did the same thing. Saw Bahamas but thought Bermuda.

I usually wind up getting dh boxed sets of dvds or out of print books on things like album covers of the '60's.

dooneygirl · 09/09/2008 04:42

DH loves books, but his work got him a Barnes and Noble gift card last year, and he finished spending it not too long ago. We don't watch movies or TV that isn't Jeopardy or sports, either. I have this really stupid idea, but he said he wanted it a bit ago, but it really sucks for a present in my opinion idea. Can't post it right now, because he's sitting right by me.

SB, hairy-footed hobbit is killing me. He's actually being a hobbit again as I type. He loves computer games, but has bought the one he wants. Hopefully you will see him and get the hobbit idea out of your mind.

His birthday and Christmas are the only 2 times a year I am bothered by being a SAHM. When I was working, the first year we were married, I took him to Vegas, the second year I got him a cool telescope, and so on. Now, it would just be "here's the package of underwear I got you when I got my check for taking surveys."

Yes, being a SAHM makes buying gifts a bit awkward. Which surveys do you do? I seem to be with several different sites which means I end up with a few points on each and not enough to get anything much. I'd much rather earn lots of points on one site.

SuperBunny · 09/09/2008 04:59

Thanks Cali. Must not panic. DS was asking me for a 2er today. His first technical Lego word [proud]

dooneygirl · 09/09/2008 05:10

My Survey is where I get the most money from. They seem to send the most, and they send you products to try too, which saves money. I got a 1 1/2 month supply of dishwasher tablets from them, a good supply of, um, "women things" as DH likes to call them, and a huge pack of diapers for Caitlin in the not too far past.

I don't have a link as I don't have a survey from them today, but Synovate/Marie Brighton is my 2nd biggest moneymaker. Synovate is their home page, but I have a hard time finding where to go if I don't have a survey in my box.

Vocalpoint is #3. They seem to not be sending nearly as many as they have in the past, though.

Somehow, through one of those companies, Safeway contacted me to be part of their Momconnection group. THEY have to ask YOU, though, you can't just sign up with them. In a month and a half, I've gotten $40 in Amazon.com gift codes.

Do you do My Points? There's some surveys on there, but I do some online shopping, and make points off that, and usually get enough points for about 3 $50 gift cards to my own personal mothership. I buy things I would buy anyway, from online merchants I would use, so might as well get points.

There's one other survey place I started with and seem to get a fair amount of points. I have to remember it, though.

SuperBunny · 09/09/2008 05:17

Ooo, v helpful, thanks Dooney. I used to do Synovate and Mysurvey but stopped doing them when I got busier and don't get many invites these days. Must log back on and start again. I get tons from Zoompanel and Lightspeed.

dooneygirl · 09/09/2008 05:21

I think it really all depends on what "demographic profile" you fit into. MIL does My Survey and gets very few. We both do one company I can't remember, and I get so few I don't even remember I'm a member there, and she gets tons.
