So we chatterboxes from the meet-up thread have had our knuckles rapped. Shall we have our own thread? I'll start, shall I?

What did you think of your 4 yrs in the Uk eidsvold?
I'm getting a lot of negative feedback from Aussies who have lived in the Uk and returned home.

Oh and ninedragons, please don't do the above when we meet up - well at least for the first 1/2 hr!

I'm an Aussie, spent 10yrs (OMG!!) in London, married a pom, had DD (now 3.10yo), moved back to Oz in May 07, had DS (now 6months)...

Now living in Melbourne and loving it!
Sorry I don't do poetry!

I loved my London life, some days I really miss it but I was child free then (well for 7yrs of it) and I know I can't have that lifestyle again.

Actually I would love a whole day of shopping on Oxford St, Regent St and Covent Garden by myself! But that is all. I miss the wonderful shopping in London. our little flat and my friends but I don't want to live there again. Plus it is too expensive to fly back and probably going to get more so.

I also spent a year living in the USA working as a nanny which was a lot of fun too... That was a very long time ago when I was much much younger.

I really loved living in the UK. It is not home and it did take a bit of getting used to BUT i really did like living there. Did say to dh early on that I would not raise our children there if we could raise them in Aus.

I enjoyed teaching in a different educational environment. Loved the village we lived in for the 2nd 2 years I was there. Met dh and had dd1 and conceived dd2 there - so there is some attachment.

I've been in Melbourne for 2+ years, working full time and made no friends yet. Most people I've met are at the school gate stage/ not working outside the home so have developed other friendships. Would love to meet some new folks. I live in Beaumaris.

Reviewing this thread makes me seem like a real, justifiable Billy No-Mates, but I'm nice. Really.

hello all. I'm English but living in Canberra. Back home to the UK in August then back out to Sydney in the New Year. I'm obviously really looking forward to all that travelling with my 2 year old...

Babamama - where are you moving to in Sydney?
Know what you mean about the travelling, about to return home for 6 weeks with DD (13m) without DH. DD runs around like a trooper and its scaring me shitless about all those hours on the plane.

hello... trying to be bored in brisbane but cant seem to find the time! how can a six week old small person keep you so busy,. oh and the 5 year old bigger persom. Dh has just jetted off fro his second stint away in perth.. away for the next nine weeks but will be home briefly for weekends. woopy doo.
eidsvold half way through prep year... hasnt it gone fast! teacher from hell told me on thursday that dd will settle once she reaches year one, umm think ive had that arguement before! oh and now she is leaving the replacement teacher will not continue the advice given by the guidance officer... i bleeding well think she will!!!!!!!!

I am in Adelaide. Been here almost 2 years [June 26th].

Am just trying to get straight in time for baby #2, who will be arriving [all being well] on 9/7.

Still singing the praises of the local hospital [am high risk] they have been great! Thankfully the Pre Eclampsia I had with dd has not reoccured....[not saying 'yet'!]

I am pitying you with a toddler on a plane, brightongirl. In Hong Kong it is very much the done thing for the parents to fly Business and put the kids with the domestic helper in Economy. That sounds utterly heavenly!

I am hoping that DD does not turn out to be an early walker, as we're supposed to be going to a wedding in Croatia in September. Life looks MUCH easier when you can give them a bottle and put them in the bassinet to sleep all the way.

brightongirl - not sure where we're moving to yet - it'll be somewhere fairly near Sydney Uni (dh is a lecturer) so having looked at the rental market I expect we'll be camping out in someone's shed. Where are you?

With regards to the flight, it might be easier doing it on your own. You can do everything your way and don't have to get annoyed with dh when he insists on watching a film. We flew over here initially when ds was 14 months, I'm particularly pleased he will be transfixed by the tv on the way back - we've got approx 27 hours of continuous travelling. Joy.

chloe - am off on a prep excursion with 60 or so students and some parents - catching train to the city and attending some of the 'Out of the Box' events. Dd1 is very excited. Dh gets to have an extra long weekend and look after dd2 and dd3.

We have a big change like you after Jun holidays - one of the share teachers is off on maternity leave and so we have a new teacher for the rest of the year. Thankfully she is a supply teacher and so far - dd1 has taken to her. The new teacher has taken the class a few times when the teachers have been off on training etc. Then a couple of weeks into the term we are going 4 days mainstream and one day special ed unit! Not sure how dd1 will go - I think she will love it.

sandcastles hasn't that time flown. Wow looking forward to the announcement.

Dd3 is walking everywhere now - getting into even more mischief. She is talking so much too. chloe not sure if your daughter is doing jolly phonics - dd1 is. dd2 sings all the songs and dd3 is making the sounds for some of the letters and doing the actions for one or two. She is even humming or singing sort of - twinkle twinkle - song her swimming teacher sings to her when she is floating in the pool. Dd3 even told me to stop singing the other day - handup in a stop sign and said the word. I just about fell over.

We were so lucky long haul with dd1 at 20 months old. She flew really nicely. Now at almost 6 and dd2 at 3 - they would be a nightmare - they are just really active kids and to be stuck in seats for that whole time would be a nightmare. I think if we did it again it would be a trip to singapore, few days stopover, overnight flight to heathrow and do the same back.

Oh I am in brisvegas - just up the road a ways from Chloe.

Bamamama, very possibly you have already been told this, but if I were you I wouldn't live in Glebe. On the map it looks like the ideal choice for Sydney Uni, but it's a crime-infested dump. Gorgeous old terraces, yuppie cafes and markets, but there are some very rough housing estates in the area and a lot of break-ins to cars and houses.

Newtown is safer and much, much more pleasant.

ninedragons - thanks for the tip! DH has a week in August in Sydney for the new job so he's going to spend his time checking out areas. Will know to cross Glebe off the map!

Ninedragons - first two degrees?.Holy cow..how many do you have (please don't say 3!!! ho ho!) Of course it won't mean a thing after a few G & T's!
babamama - I live in Rozelle, just along from Balmain. Both of these areas are lovely. Let ninedragons give you details as she's from here (I think?). Agree about Glebe. Nice areas in Leichardt and Lilyfield, i heard.
Will keep fingers crossed about DD on plane though its not looking good as she's started having hissy fits if she sits for too long now that she can run. will def make sure I have an aisle seat! I have a little bit of Calpol Night left (bit like Medised), which apparently has been banned in the Uk for under 2's, but thats because of the fear of overdosing. You reckon I could use this? Domestic helper, ninedragons - tell me where I get one NOW!!!

Three, but all in a profoundly useless field. I am the sort of person that gets pointed to by politicians who want to cut state funding to universities because our degrees make truly minuscule contributions to the economy.

But surely you have so much to say... thats more than any financial contribution!
Three Degrees eh? You've just woken the singer in me - expect me to slur "when will I see you again" at the end of the night!

BTW I am not your average alcopop drinking British slapper. I think above makes me look like that...and I will not be wearing a pelmet for a skirt either!
