Lets have a new thread the other was getting a bit long!

All expats are welcome, I come from Perth WA and have been here for 8 years, married a pom and live in West London with my ds1 2yrs and ds2 1yr. No plans to move back to Oz but we are thinking of moving to Singapore for a couple of years. Well the weathers got to be better than here, and it will be further away from the inlaws

quokka · 01/03/2007 10:16

OP posts:
KaybeeandZak · 03/03/2007 18:43

I had a night out on Tues with some girlfriends It was great!
West London is a bit far for me at night, and we are at dh's parents place on the 10th so I can't make that one...

i have added some latest pics of ds to my profile (hopefully it's worked)

sunshinefairy · 05/03/2007 17:48

Hi how are you all. I can't do meet ups during the day but your girls have fun!

Wasn't it nice and sunny today till the rain came I'm so over central heating and the cold i want warmth....

kiwibella · 05/03/2007 23:54

Hi girlies... a new thread - and it seems so active. Especially with Wellingtonians.. I lived in Wellington before we moved over here. I'm originally from Palmerston North tho. Have lived in East London for just over three years. If dh has his way, we will be here for a lot longer yet.

We have an eight day old dd who arrived quickly and safely at home last weekend. A new baby definately makes you think about home more - especially trying to keep up with emails and getting information back to those who are waiting for updates. We also have a 10yo dd who is a gem.

We called into the Kiwi/Aussie/Safa shop in Covent Garden on the weekend... mmmm. So expensive though!! Will have to send my shopping list home to Mum for her trip over next month .

Mellin · 06/03/2007 20:40

Congrats Kiwibella, wow a home birth I am impressed. Hope everything is going well with new bub.

Quokka, can't make the West London meet-up this time. When I come back from Oz I'm going to join the West Lon thread.

I have to start thinking about packing soon, we leave in 2 weeks! Was checking the temp in Sydney and it's 25 degrees. Probably going to feel like 40 degrees to me, now that I've gone soft from living in London so long

Weejy · 08/03/2007 11:13

Hello All

I'm an Aussie living in the UK for the last 9 years, DH is a Pom and DS is 8 months old. Been nagging DH for 8 years to move home!! Finally got him to agree and going at the end of the summer. Anyone got any ideas on what to do with all our electrical appliances. Don't think we can take them with us?!

Is anyone else finding the whole partner visa application a complete nightmare? I can't believe the amount of paperwork I have gathered for it and really struggling with the "Evidence of genuine and continuing relationship" part. We haven't kept any invitations or joint correspondence to be able to include them in the application.

Any Aussies around Sussex/Surrey/Hampshire borders would love to meet up for Lamingtons and Billy Tea.

superloopy · 08/03/2007 16:04

Hi Weejy
That visa is a bugger isn't it!! Ours is completed and sent off about 2 weeks ago. Just have to wait now.....

We found some old cards and invites to send off but I really do think that being married for 5 yrs and having a 2yr old DD should be enough!!

We are moving to Melbourne in May and I cannot wait. We are planning on taking electrical appliances (Dyson, food processor, slow cooker etc...) with us and just having new pugs put on them. My Dad is and electrician so it should be easy. The power voltage is the same as here and only the plugs are different. You could just buy a few adaptors or take a couple of power boards to use there.

cori · 12/03/2007 17:03

Hello, everybody. A bit quiet on here. I have just found a bunch of other Australian mums on netmums, so have invited them over.

Are we going meetup some time soonish. The weather is perking up, I could handle a day in Kew

KaybeeandZak · 13/03/2007 19:50

Yes it's very quiet, where has everybody gone??!?!?!?!?!?

quokka · 14/03/2007 12:37

just been to Kew today and it was lovely! I think they have loads of things for the kids over easter. We should deffo get off our butts and meet up (well me anyway)!

Mellin have you gone yet - if not bring us back some twisties will you ?

Kaybee when am I going to see your ds again?

dh is in Miami this week so have been knackered - the kids always get sick when he's away . Was up 3 times last night, ds1 seems to be having terrible night time terrors

kiteflying · 20/03/2007 17:53

Hello, can I join this thread? I am Australian but have lived in London for an extraordinary nine years. I don't even know how that happened. I am expecting my first babe in August this year and my boyfriend wants us to move back to Oz some time next year so the baby has an extended family. I am quaking about it - I am sure I will be desperately homesick for England the whole time. I actually found this thread because I was looking for other people moving out to Australia to see what I might have to think about. You would never know I spent almost thirty years in the country - I am so nervous about it being entirely different and yet supposed to be familiar!

sunshinefairy · 22/03/2007 07:48

hello ladies
its snowinggggggg....... im so excited i love the snow, so different to hot and humid brisbane.

kiteflying i have been here going on 12 years and missed the UK terribly when I went home for good so i came back but Im seriously thinking about going 'home' again. Family becomes more important than other stuff = shops. city buzz etc. congrats on your pregnancy./

kiteflying · 22/03/2007 12:09

Thanks sunshinefairy! I know what you mean - the baby coming along has been the deciding factor. We really want her or him to have cousins and grandparents, and most of our friends here are non-child carrying and/or spread across Europe rather than being around the corner. On the other hand, any ante-natal friendships I make here will be lost and I won't have any new-mum friends out there, plus the Australian suburban lifestyle can be very isolating.

The inevitability of homesickness is really my issue and hopefully will ease off. I know my homesickness for Australia took about two years to shake entirely when I first moved here.

Hopefully this thread at some point turns into a meet-up as it would be lovely to be surrounded by Antipodean accents.

Do you remember when you first arrived in the UK and "antipodean" seemed such a foreign and strangely pejorative word??

quokka · 22/03/2007 16:10

hi kiteflying, are you in London?

Dh is getting his job offer tomorrow for S'pore so looks like we'll be moving soon . Was just starting to worry about schools for ds1 but now he'll be going to the Aussie school in s'pore (which I'm much happier about!

Should we try and have a meetup at Kew gardens soon?

Bubblemummy · 22/03/2007 18:46

Hi everyone

I have just moved to London from Perth with my DS (5 months old) and DH (who is English). I do love London but am finding it difficult without any friends or family to support me. It is proving to be quite hard making friends too, as I don't get out of the house much any more

Anyway, it's good to see other aussies on here and especially fellow Perthites! I would love a meet up as well.

quokka · 23/03/2007 18:58

hi bubblemummy, whereabouts in Perth are you from? I haven't lived there for 15yrs now so a bit out of touch. Are you in West London?

OP posts:
Bubblemummy · 24/03/2007 21:32

Hi quokka
We were living in Mt Lawley, and now we're in South London. Where were you in Perth? What made you decide to move to London?
