oh I haven't been waiting all week for the download, by the way, I'd actually missed your post somehow guess I thought I'd read it and I hadn't, a bonus post then.
I wonder if you're in France now, hope you're having a good hols if you are.

Mayadeine · 10/08/2006 09:54

Happy Birthday (belated) to you

Glad to hear the tribe came to be with you on the day! Thought it must have been Jo visiting you - her partner has a name I have not heard before.

We have been to France (yet) not sure if we will go. Have been down in Tessin for 4 days where the temps were great - it is still overcast and cool here. We are thinking of going back down to Tessin again as dh has another weeks hols to go. I cannot face a longer journey in the car with ds - he was a right pain in the derriere - screaming his head off whenever he had a demand- my boobs got overused! Can´t let him scream too much with grandma in the car

We are all over the tummy bugs thank goodness.

Will have to find you another pic of "my" river seeing as the other one is flowing too slow.

angelhunter · 10/08/2006 11:59

Hi there
I live in Hamilton. Found web site through show on sky. Great to see other Mumsnetters here

Kjaysmum · 11/08/2006 09:27

Hello Angelhunter and welcome, It's a gem mumsnet, I was put onto it by Mayadeine here when DS was a wee wee fella and it has been very, very useful. Are you from Hamilton? I was there once for a few days when I first came over to visit NZ, my DP has an aunt there with a nice swimming pool and even nicer daughters who where rather taken with our DS, always a bonus, needless to say we had a really good time there.

OP posts:
Kjaysmum · 11/08/2006 09:38

Thanks Mayadeine,
We don't know Tessin but if you had a good time I don't blame you wanting to go back. Sounds rather intense with the whole family in the car and it's not much of a holiday if you arrive somewhat 'drained' eek.
Don't really know what's going on with DS at the moment, I took him to the homeopath today for this recurring nappy rash, he never had it ever (well a little with teething) and he's had it ever since we arrived! He got a bit of a cold and a cough and today he was covered in spots! Took him to the nurse it's not chicken pox or the dreaded Men, she didn't really know either, guess it's a viral rash, but he hasn't got a temp, gone down a bit now but it's still under his skin. hope the homeopathy works poor little fella

Hi Kjaysmum, No I'm originally from Christchurch in the South Island but Kiwi born, parents from England and Wales so a bit of a mixture but nice to see others on this site from New Zealand

Kjaysmum · 12/08/2006 03:24

I haven't got that far down the Islands yes, we only went as far as Nelson when we went south before, I have that pleasure to look forward to.

I was actually just looking at some photo's from some friends in Spain and feeling slightly homesick, but it is all a state of mind I have to remind myself. These Islands of New Zealand hold many treasures for us to explore as our DS grows up, I haven't even seen this area properly yet.

Kjaysmum · 17/08/2006 06:13

hey Mayadeine my river's flowing faster than yours!! waikanae river .
It was a beautiful clear day today and suddenly it all seems so worthwhile, Ds and I had lunch out on the decks and there were amazing little green birds with yellow ringed eyes feastingon the blossom which has broken out on the fruit trees in the garden, aaahhhh what a lovely day
hope alls good with you and yours

OP posts:
Papillon · 18/08/2006 15:38

the Aare is deep and ponderous therefore it takes its time you know

We are back - had an okay time, did lots of shopping, well dh did mostly. The weather has been abit rubbish, but came back to a blue sky here which is good to see. Its been crap weather for 3 weeks! in August! Stayed in a hotel next to the forest so I took dd on afew walks which was fun.

You have done quite well at seeing Wellington area having been over of its goat tracks to the hutt etc! Great to hear the weather has been nice enough to get some sunrays and deck action! Perhaps the bird you saw was a wax eye .

kjaysmum · 18/08/2006 22:01

yep thats the one, a friend told me that they get drunk on the blossom nectar and fall out the trees sometimes, she tells me this is why when DS shouted at them they ignored him totally (thank goodness) and didn't flinch. good lesson for him in not shouting at wild life.

Glad your hols went well walking in the forest sounds great, you have inspired me to find a little bush walk for me and DS to do, I could do with getting earthed.

Homeopathic first aid course going well, is really good to learn how to use my 36 remedies kit properly and get out the house for some me time which will benefit the family too.

Just off to the farmers market to get my fruit and veg, good to have you back

OP posts:
Papillon · 19/08/2006 14:59

Farmers market sounds good. They have one in the weekend here which I sometimes go to. Been abit lazy since ds born though.

I am really into going to the forest with the kids. We have taked dd since she was born and she loves it. We eat blackberries I walk off the main tracks on the smaller paths. It is very safe here. The walk the other day had gorgeous views of lake Lugano. Wish I had taken the camera. It had fitness points so dd enjoyed haning from rings and walking along beams

We tried to attract the attention of the birds and were quite successful, talking to a woodpecker and two other birds. You can use polystyrene and a mirror for a high pitched squeak and attract fantails for starters. I used my voice at a whistle pitch which seemed to work!
Their garden had small fruit trees and dd ate a beautiful tree riped pear. It is a family run hotel. You would have been amazed to see their gardener, he was all bent over and wizened, and ponged! He would walk down from the hill through the swimming pool area - what a contrast! dd was in awe of him and walked with her arms clasped behind her like him. He was definately one of my favourite aspects about the hotel.

Must go and book my flights to NZ now that I am back for hols.

kjaysmum · 21/08/2006 10:01

hello Paps,
I must say I do prefer Papillon as a name it flows of the fingers a little more easily, we seem to be having a flow thing going on,,,,

Nice to hear from you on the other thread, had a hellish day, DS had decided not to have a nap today and fell asleep at 3pm on the sofa, he woke up at 4pm and was in a state for a couple of hours, poor little man! luckily it is yoga night so I have been off destressing which should help all round.

Your hotel sounds magical. I shall try the mirror and polystyrene with DS.
where are you flying through when you come back to NZ, guess it'll be a quick stopover for you, good luck with your tickets.

The weathers crazy here one minute it's spring and then a southerly comes up and its bitter again. Have just planted my calendular and some cooking herbs, hope they can take this wind and rain.

oh dear, Papillon, the bingo thing is a con....it's a nasty little number to gain access to your email account....I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the b..stds will send the same email to people in you address book I don't know what the point is but I fell for it too and have emailed all on my address book to ignore it DP has been so bogged down with work he hasn't had a chance to do it yet, he says a huge sorry....

OP posts:
Papillon · 22/08/2006 12:02

Thought it looked dodgy but I still fell for it! I have had that hotmail account now for about 10 years and I am sure it has survived worse!

No worries

Well the good news is that dh has said okay to 6 weeks in NZ rather than the rather thin 4 weeks!! Was going to be mad and stressy otherwise. Poor dh though - he will find it very hard, but thats life when families life at one end of the planet from one other.

kjaysmum · 22/08/2006 22:23

yes same when I received it, crap eh, thanks for being so cool about it.

Six weeks here, great, that should make it alot easier to get all done. Ooh Ooh [excited face] still having that party!!?? No sorry, no pressure, just remember we're still well up for it. It'll be really nice to meet you in the flesh again as I feel I know you a bit now and very cool to get the kids together oh yes and DP of course! Just a pity your DH is tied down with work but 'c'est la vie'. I plan a home trip next winter and DP won't be along either.

We have sun today yipee but bloody cold again....I shall be on the beach later blowing the old cobwebs out...

OP posts:
Papillon · 24/08/2006 20:22

Have been thinking about the party and what it would take to organise. If something was to happen think it would be pretty low key numbers wise and invite only seeing as its would be at the parents place.

Been stuck indoors all day, raining and dd has a husky, sexy voice going - this cold weather is bringing on the colds.

How was the beach?

kjaysmum · 27/08/2006 10:13

Yep it was pretty chilly, but it's just so exhilarating when you get over those dunes, I love it.

Went to wellington at the weekend and stayed in 'inlaws' new appartment as they were off in Aukland, what fun. I really like Wellington to visit it's a pretty cool city, was nice to get back up the 'cupof tea' coast though

Shame your summer has gone a bit downhill weather wise, it's all a bit extreme really don't you think.

OP posts:
Papillon · 30/08/2006 07:57

Its like winter here! OUr house does not get alot of sun and it feels really cold int he house. I did normally yearn for NZ, but this has been the shortest hotflush of a summer and I am quite disguested.

Yesterday I went to enquire about my flights to NZ which helped shift some early winter blues. Seems like NZ airlines is cancelling alot of flights so difficult to find something without 20 hour waits in Hong Kong!

We are off to playgroup this morning. We normally have 2 per week, with dd turning 3 soon, I want to try her at some ohters ,where I won´t be present.

Sandcastles · 30/08/2006 08:17

Hey, I'm in Oz. Moved here just over 2 months ago. Welcome.

kjaysmum · 31/08/2006 05:00

oh dear Paps, the weather is being highly unkind to us all this year, talk about extremes.
Good luck with sending Dd off to play group on her own it's a biggy isn't it, I'm going to a MOPS (mums of preschoolers) meeting next week which has a creche for the little'ns just to see how Ds takes it when I go upstairs, should be intersting.

20 hros in Honk kong sounds hellish tedious to me!

Hi Sandcastles, and thanks so how are you settling in in OZ, are you in a sunny part?

oh dear got to go, Ds has just reminded me I promised to cook buscuits, up mum he's saying , Buscuits!!

OP posts:
kjaysmum · 03/09/2006 23:39

Well just as I thought we were doing so well with the weather it's pouring down today, so back to finding indoor activities to keep my active DS happy, we've made playdough that was fun, painting now, hmmm what next?

OP posts:
Papillon · 04/09/2006 07:01

Same here KJ, the weather is like a nervous, indecisive charlatan! It keeps trying to rain here, clouds look grey this morning and its supposed to get to 27C later today!! Although people are saying that September is going to be warm.

We have seen DH mother off at the airport yesterday - dd looked quite sad and I think realises that she won´t she her for awhile.

DS is teething - getting no. 3 tooth - he is alot quicker than his sister who was 10 months when she got her first.

With the crap weather dd has been getting into making houses out of chairs and curtains or duvets. She takes her books in there and her dolls and plays away. For the first time she seems settled with her play space and finally takes some ownership of it. That affords me some timeout as ds like to hang out and play too.

Am trying to join a womans gym close to me atm. Don´t want to pay the subscription so am hoping for a childminding supervision spot there. So its a way for me to have ME time and get the kids used to not always been 24/7.

Its my birthday this weekend. Saturday night

kjaysmum · 04/09/2006 08:12

ah a virgo, like my mum, I think you are quite a spring chicken are you not? Have a great time on Saturday hope the family spoils you!
Must be hard for your DD now she is old enough to grasp the concept of her GM going away. My mum is getting a computer on at last, she is going to do a course to help her understand it, I'm determined we shall get into Skype and using a digicam, it will hopefully make it easier for DS to keep her in his memory and will be great for her to be able to watch him grow. Talking about growing my little fella (that's the DS not the DP(tee hee) has just had a massive growth spurt even I can see it and his feet have grown lots, was wondering if it contributes to his mood swings, growing pains maybe?
Hope your DS has an easy time with his teething, don;t forget the Chamomilla if not.

OP posts:
Papillon · 04/09/2006 08:15

hallo

yes using Chamomilla and some teething gel. He is much more sensitive to teething then dd. Men are such wooses

DH is looking into that Skype thingy too.

Better go put ds down for his nap x
