Any advice would be appreciated .. speeding ticket

Hi pls don’t come for me I genuinely made a mistake I was doing 80mph on the motorway where it was 70 I have receive the letter today but it’s not telling what il get it’s jus asking if it was me or not … I passed in August last year so not long and I am scared I may loose my licence I didn’t even realise I got flashed.. has anyone else experienced this of been newly passed

my anxiety is hitting the roof .. it was a genuine mistake and I did t even click on I was at 80 as the prepay was so empty last week on the time I went

No judgement here. I got caught doing 23 in one of the new 20 zones in Wales that changed overnight - it was downhill too and a mobile police van. But the law is the law and as the law stands you will lose your licence if you reach six or more penalty points within two years of passing your first driving test. Given your infringement you should be offered a speed awareness course, which costs just under £100. Take it, because that way you avoid points. The other alternative is to take the points and pay a fine. But it’s better to keep your licence clean.

Send the notice back saying it always you driving. You won't know what they're intending to do until you send the notice back.

Doesn't matter that the motorway was empty lol - even though most people have done it - you've been caught

You'll either get a fixed penalty and points OR the offer of a speed awareness course OR summons to court

Normally as long as you don't get 6 points within your first 2 years of driving you won't loose your licence.

Circumstances are irrelevant you were doing 80mph in a 70 - yes lots of people do it but now you've been caught, DO NOT IGNORE THE LETTER, take the punishment, learn from it and move on. Highly likely you'll get offered a speed awareness course or 3 -6 points plus a fine of £100 -£150.

All of what @Fgshwga says. You fill it in and then you find out in the next letter what they intend to do.

It doesn't matter how empty the road was etc and there isn't an opportunity anyway to say any of that - unless you do not pay the fine or do the course and you instead go to court. Then you can say that but don't do that!

If you do lose your license then it's not the end of the world. You will just have to take your test again and your insurance will go up, probably substantially, but that's just the way it is.

You will not lose your license. At worst you will get a fine and 3 points. However, as you were below 86mph, there is a good chance you will be offered a driver awareness course. That will cost a little more than the fine, but you won't get any points on your license.

Yes, a new driver can be disqualified if they get 6 points within 2 years of passing the driving test. You are correct that this offence carries 3 points, so OP won't lose her license.

They can offer a speed awareness course or driver awareness course if your speed is up to 86mph. Once you have taken a course, you won't be offered another one for 3 years.

I recently had to do the Motorway speed awareness course (caught doing 45 when it was a 40 zone) and actually it was really quite good and explained quite a few things I'd not been aware of - so do the course if you get the chance!

Thanks so much ladies… honestly I didn’t realise I was in my music and enjoying my drive but here are the consequences.. I can honestly give myself a kick up the back.. my husband is in my ear and I don’t blame him I hope I get a speeding course or even 3 points and I will never make this mistake again…. 😟

I am super stressed.. I will fill it out on Monday and send it back online and hope for the best

i have read all on TikTok under 86 on a 70 it’s a course offered but let’s see and wait x

As a new driver you would lose your licence at 6 points. 80 in. 70 zone would typically be 3 unless they offer speed awareness. If they offer it grasp it with both hands.

your insurance may go up significantly.

Please don't stress about it - I know the police send really scarily official letters but actually this is a very regular occurrence and if you do the speed awareness course you will find they are very pleasant and reassuring. I was caught speeding in similar circumstances to you, only in my case it was an audio book (final chapter!) and it was a good wake up call to me and it's changed my motorway driving now, definitely.

You wont lose your licence. DH was caught doing over 100mph on the motorway and didnt. What happens is- you admit to driving, then you'll get a letter of prosecution (they may offer a speed awareness course but usually thats only if you are bit over the limit so you might get that)

In the bit where you explain yourself, admit to it, DONT make any excuses as they dont like that. Say you've never had a speeding ticket before, you realise it was a stupid thing to do and you take full responsibility for it and you realise you should not have done it, you regret it and it wont happen again. There is also a bit where you have to enter how a potential fine will affect you financially. DH got a £600 fine, 6 points and no ban. It was indeed a stupid thing to do but owning up to it, taking responsibility, and not having a history of speeding will help you.

I was ticketed for doing 34 in a 30 last year.

Just fill in the form saying it was you. Tick the option of completing a driving awareness course. You'll have to pay for the course (I think it was the same amount as the fine, about £85 ish). Once you've completed the course within the specified time, you won't have any points on your license.

I got caught last year (didn't slow down quick enough going from a 70 into a 50 zone, honest mistake) and did a speed awareness course. It was actually quite interesting and apart from paying £100 I didn't mind attending.

You then have to be super careful for 2 years because any further tickets (even 23 in a 20) in that time will mean points on your licence.

That won’t be applicable here, it’ll just be a simple offer of a course or FPN.

It didn't matter how empty the motorway was! 80 is a lot over 70, and you are a relatively new driver.

Send the letter back saying it was you. That's all you can do.

You will prob get three points and have to do speed awareness course.
Do not ignore the letter, just send back say it it was you. You'll then get the action that will be taken.
You won't be the first or last, just learn from it and move on.

Everyone makes mistakes. The important thing is to learn from them. Making a mistake and learning from it is great. The best possible outcome would be for you to learn from this to be vigilant about your speed and aware of how road conditions e.g. a motorway being empty, can combine with distractions like e.g. your favourite tunes, to make you totally lose track of your speed. I know that certain loud rock tunes will give me a tendency to speed - it's natural with the beat and the build up to the song's climax - but a good driver hears those beats and that crescendo and thinks "oh better check my speed and not get carried away here" and keeps their focus.

Why is your husband giving you a hard time? What you did isn't OK but it's hardly the end of the world. And if he drives then I would stake my house on the fact he will have exceeded the speed limit at some point.

option it’s jus asking if it was me I have gone online and told them that it was me today I can just hope for the best now and see what happens also it didn’t give me an option to put any extra information down

theres no option at the moment it jus says I need to say wetha it was me or not and then they’ll take it from there
