Drugs test at work this morning

LoliC90 · 30/03/2018 13:22

If you have smoked cannabis within the past week could this show up if tested.

When I was finished my nightshift this morning I was asked to go for a random drugs test where I had to provide a sample of my urine.

Worried I could lose my job now.

OP posts:
TopBitchoftheWitches · 30/03/2018 16:49

Right, as Camilla and a few other people are ignoring what people who actually know the law are saying.....I admitted to taking another drug to a police officer due to a domestic violence incident against me.

he said taking drugs is not an offence, being in possession of them is

Banterlope · 30/03/2018 16:49

Erm... many poisons are. Whatever point you were trying to make got lost, I fear!

Weed isn't a poison

catgirl1976 · 30/03/2018 16:50

Wait it out

There's a chance it will be negative if it was a small amount

If it comes back positive I suppose you could try and say you were with people who were smoking but you didn't and must have passively inhaled but I don't know that would fly to be honest.

If you do get a way with it don't do it again but if you do use eye drops in your urine next time. But ideally....don't do it again

Bluntness100 · 30/03/2018 16:54

Gilly, I second the question. Convicted of what exactly?

StealthPolarBear · 30/03/2018 16:57

Eye drops? Is that a home test?

Notevilstepmother · 30/03/2018 16:58

I’ve never used cannabis but I think there is a lot of pearl clutching hysteria on this thread.

How come Gin and Wine are so acceptable but a bit of weed isn’t?

I’m aware that problematic use can be an issue and is linked with mental health, but then speak to anyone who’s lived with an alcoholic.

OP, I think it’s unfair of them to test you as what you did days ago won’t affect your work. However, it’s happened now. I hope you find a better paid job where you are more valued. Care work is exhausting and under valued.

The police cannot do anything and won’t be interested unless you are in possession when they speak to you.

catgirl1976 · 30/03/2018 17:02

Apparently putting eye drops in your pee will give a false negative on a cannabis test Stealth. It's well documented but I don't think I would risk my career on the hope of it working. Easier just to not take drugs if you work in a job where you are tested I'd say

CuriousaboutSamphire · 30/03/2018 17:03

Weed isn't a poison I think you'll find that it has a definite toxicity for humans. Just as many other plants do!

Examples of toxicity include, but are not restricted to:

long-term impairment of memory in adolescents; prolonged impairment of psychomotor performance; a sixfold increase in the incidence of schizophrenia; cancer of mouth, jaw, tongue and lung in 19-30 year olds; fetotoxicity; and non-lymphoblastic leukemia in children of marijuana-smoking mothers.

Mandatorymongoose · 30/03/2018 17:07

It's interesting you don't get the results immediately.

I do a lot of UDS testing - not on staff (mental health nurse) and we always allow people to watch their sample being tested so they know there's been no tampering etc. and they are given the results immediately.

As an aside UDS tests aren't actually that accurate. We get random false positives from medications a fair bit and then have to follow up with blood testing.

Ibuprofen / other NSAIDs can cause false positives for THC.

Mrsfloss · 30/03/2018 17:10

The thing is with urine testing it can be wildly inaccurate. Google it. I would ask for an oral fluid test with confirmation.

Also I am not sure if this has been asked but are they suspecting you, are you in stoned quite a bit? A drug test for care worker seems odd unless suspicions.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 30/03/2018 17:11

Loli, firstly, from me - thank you for the job that you do. Very few people could or would have the stamina, so thank you. :)

Secondly, there was a thread here a while ago about Cautions and the OP of that thread was advising that they NOT be accepted. I'll see if I can find it but if not, I'm sure somebody else will have better skills than I do.

I'm wondering if there is any merit in posting on the Legal board about this?

I really and truly hope for a good outcome for you. I don't doubt that you put everything into your work and that you do it well.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 30/03/2018 17:11

Yes! DH has tested positive twice. Once because of ibuprofen, they ask about recent drugs, he said yes, and detailed when. So when that one came back no one was surprised.

His alcohol positive had him at about 10 times the legal driving limit!! The testing company broke all sorts of procedure, including upkeep of the testing machine. DH was suspended for 2 weeks whilst the various companies involved worked that one out. He ended up with both a formal warning and an apology letter on file!

stillvicarinatutu · 30/03/2018 17:19

lolic90 - the police wont show up i promise. ill pm you.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 30/03/2018 17:20

The thread I was thinking of was from a poster called Brasty, but the page isn't available.

There is this one though:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/1756136-Accepting-a-caution-while-training-to-be-a-nurse

I have absolutely no legal training or knowledge but there is a Legal board here and the posters there could probably help you/direct you.

gillybeanz · 30/03/2018 17:22

They raided his house and found some, shortly after the test.
He didn't have chance to dispose of it quickly enough.
There was a community Police Officer at work who explained everything about the drugs, and somebody else about alcohol.
It's such a fuss about nothing, tbh.
iirc he got a caution when Police came back to work, but he was already leaving by then as only one weeks notice.

gillybeanz · 30/03/2018 17:23

Thanks for the tip off with the eye drops, unless they actually come in the cubicle with you.

Nicknacky · 30/03/2018 17:26

Possession is a completely different issue than a positive drug test. Stop scaremongering.

stillvicarinatutu · 30/03/2018 17:26

ah cant pm - says you arent receiving pms but from a police perspective in this case you do not need to worry.

OohMavis · 30/03/2018 17:38

If they raided his house for a positive result, you can bet it wasn't a trace amount of weed they found.

If they raided him at all. Sometimes rumours are wrong.

Nicknacky · 30/03/2018 17:40

I know there is no way we would get a search warrant granted based on a positive drug test at work.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 30/03/2018 17:41

As I said a few times.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 30/03/2018 17:41

meant for vicar Smile

Littlechocola · 30/03/2018 17:42

I test others as work regularly and I suppose could be tested myself if work had concerns.

In your case I would say the lying is what will get you into more trouble.

TheShaniaTwainExperience · 30/03/2018 18:04

TheUser irrelevant, Pp said her cousin smoked cannabis.

Everyone knows there’s more than one way of ingesting marijuana, you just look like a fool going on about it.

DaisyGiveMeYourAnswerDoo · 30/03/2018 21:38

Daisy you cannot categorically say you’ll be okay whatever happens

Well, most people are ok in the long run. She smoked a joint; she didn't kill anyone. Even if they do sack her for it, care workers are in such short supply. I reckon if she was articulate and experienced, and explained the situation at interview, she stands a good chance of getting hired again (I've got quite a lot of experience in the profession). They really are scraping the bottom of the barrel for care workers - people who can't speak any English so it's very hard for elderly people to communicate their needs to them, people who don't have an empathetic bone in their body, people that have no knowledge of how to look after somebody. I can feel the OPs worry in her posts, and it seems OTT for the incident, but people are itching to make her feel worse. And I hate cannabis by the way, it affects user's mental health in the most terrible ways - believe me I know.
