well........psycho cafe is now closed for business tonight....

do any of you other mums also find yourselves doing many different meals to suit all the different tastes, (and allergies), or am I the only insane one here???

and why is it that we have a holiday weekend, and I think it ok to leave the washing for a couple of days, and then it seems to multiply by 1000 just because I then tell them to hunt under their beds for any washing they may have missed......

137wallis · 25/03/2008 20:40

I have to cook more than one meal usually as ds1 is soooooooo fussy, so i nearly always have to tweak or make him something different. very annoying!
our dishwasher broke down this weekend, so we have loads of washing up, and i did an hours worth this morning!

kittywise · 25/03/2008 20:40

psychomum, I go through phases of doing 'variations on a theme' as far as food is concerned and then I get pissed off and make them eat what's in front of them or go hungry!

No, no, no we never have a day off washing here. it would be chaos!!!!
As you have found out

gibberish · 25/03/2008 20:46

I refuse to make different meals for them all. Whatever I make there's usually one who doesn't like something in it. So they either have to pick out what they don't like or not eat it. I am heartless.

Add me to your list please!

gingeme · 25/03/2008 20:48

Lol kittywise. Cant actualy remember the last time we had sex. Probably about a year go to get numer5 I have told dh to get himself checked up to make sure his snip worked first before we even consider it. Knowing ourluck.....
Had a lovely moment today. ds4 17 mnths old, was doing row row row your boat on my lap and leaning right back and laughing. ds5, 10 weeks old, was on dhs lap being burped and hews realy chuckeling at ds4 . Im smiling now just thinking about it.
It is very satisfying when the place is quuiet and all the little people are in bed. Time to relax

Psychomum5 · 25/03/2008 20:52

kitty.....you sound much like me there!!!

I got fed up tho very recently with them constantly complaining of boredom with the 'same old, same old' IYGWIM.

sooooooo

I went out and thought up some new meal combinations, helped while shopping in Aldi's.

they all took one look at the food in the fridge, and collectively moaned telling me that it all looked horrid and please not to cook it.

it wasn;t as tho it was food they have never come across either.......I was planning on doing german style pork meat balls with either roast veg or with pasta.
pasta with a bacon and mushroom sauce (I know they would pick out the mushrooms (more for me tho), but they eat bacon happily enough!.
stir fry veg with chicken in a soy and garlic sauce.

all vetoed.

soooooooo

we back to the usual bolognaise, curry, wraps, roast chicken, ham + egg and chips, pizza, baked potatoes with different toppings etc etc.

all good food, but like I say, the same pretty much week-to-week and they wanted (and I wanted to cook), something a little different.

ho hum, back to the drawing board......

HI rosy

I know psycho, I'm soooo bored with the same old stuff, but as you say try to be a tad inventive and world war three breaks out.

Mind you, have you seen the puds in the "Nigella express"? To die for and can be cooked in a thrice

magnolia74 · 25/03/2008 21:10

Well Dd4 was in bed by 7pm, the twins were lights off at 7.30pm although they are still awake
Dd1 went up to watch Holby city at 8pm and Ds1 was asleep by 7.50pm

I have pigged out on all the salt and vinegar crisps (Dh says am I pg!!!!pmsl) I'm not by the way

We have the same old stuff here for meals but I don't cook different things, everyone gets whats on their plate and if they don't like it tough. Of course If I don't like it I will cook later for me

Psychomum5 · 25/03/2008 21:12

my boys are in bed, but the girls are still up here.

this is what it gets like during the school hols and I get slack

sorkycake · 25/03/2008 21:17

We have the same meals for everyone, don't like it...tough!

Everyone in bed now thank god.

ladytophamhatt · 25/03/2008 21:19

I often end up cooking differnet stuff, not so much in the evening but always at lunch time.
I can't remeber when they last all had the same thing at lunch actually.....

Only just got the washing up.....MN has get her claws in me ATM

Dishwasher is the best thing I have ever bought

fiplus4 · 25/03/2008 21:22

Does 4 count?
DS1 10
DS2 8
DTs(D) 4
Currently 2 snoring, 2 making excuses for loo trips etc.
I'm regularly known to make large bowl of pasta and stick
a. jar of pesto
b. passata
c. grated cheese
in middle of table and tell them to make their own minds up.

Psychomum5 · 25/03/2008 21:28

sorky.....my different meals theme has evolved from need.

I am severely allergic to milk, DD2, DD3 and DS2 in the past have also been severely allergic but can now tolerate small amounts on cooking.

DS2 up until the age of 4 was on a gluten free diet aswell as he has a bowel condition.

DD3, on top of her being poorly also suffers from migraines so has a lot of food to avoid as it can trigger them

thro all this, DH, DD1 and DS1 can eat normal food, and altho there are many meals that I can either adapt to suit us all, or even we all have milk and gluten free meals occasionally, in practice in doesn;t work 100% of the time.....hence differenet meals and me feeling as tho I run a cafe!!!!!

beleive me, I would love to be able to tel them 'eat or starve', but I would either have ill kiddies, or they would indeed starve.

and then again.....at times......I get fed up with the moaning and argueing and so do the different meals for an 'easy' () life!!!!!

best way for us now is for me to do different dishes and put them on the table. We all help ourselves to what we want, and I get less argueing as they all get to have something they like/can eat. Tis very like an episode of The Waltons....

sorkycake · 26/03/2008 06:44

I think having a dishwasher is as essential as a washing machine personally, but I'm a slattern sooooooo.

Actually if I could afford a lady to iron for me I would do that.

I've often wondered why no-one has invented an ironing machine, where you chuck everything in and out it comes all pressed.

Probably 'cos men don't iron.

Psychomum that's a different kettle of fish altogether, there's a need for different dishes, in my house they're just picky, well dd is, and for no reason, she'll eat the food fine, just wants to have little moan first.

I've given up correcting typo's, some days I swear i'm morphing into cod

kittywise · 26/03/2008 07:05

sorky, we have had an ironng press for a few years now. They are brill. I could never use a normal iron now, so slow!

sorkycake · 26/03/2008 07:08

Honestly kittiwise?

I've seen them advertised but thought they were useless and bulky, not based on any rational thought there at all.

Does it do shirts? I hate ironing shirts.

liahgen · 26/03/2008 07:31

Good morning all.

I was a nanny for 13 yrs before I had my own kids and I was sooo smug, "my kids will never do that!" " no way will I let a 6 yr old dictate what she will or won't wear!" not much eh? The amount of words I've had to eat over the years, I could write a dictionary.

I was the same when my sister used to cook different meals for her 2!!kids. Something else I would "never" do. Well, cafe Walters is always open, I have a 2 and half yr old grazer aswell, so she is never completely hungry at mealtimes. Always have a constant supply of healthy snacks on the go. Sometimes run out of inspiration, so its strawberries, cheese, etc. I don't buy sweets, chocolate or crisps and biscuits, as I would eat them all and be even fatter than I am already.

My little baby has chicken pox today, thought it was the start yesterday but not sure, well today, although she only has 4 spots at present, they re definately blisters. She was supposed to be being christened on Sunday!! Aggghhh, bloody childhood ailments. And I was supposed to be going into London tomorrow cos George, (4) has a mothercare casting. Oh well, cest la vie.

My little 3 go to bed between half 6 and 7, including stories. I start bedtime about 6 so that we aren't rushing. Last night, didn't get downstairs till 8 cos I have my great nephew aswell, so that's 3 stories instead of 2.
My 10 yr old boy goes at 8, much to his constant annoyance, and 13 yr dd goes anytime between 9 and 10. She's ok though, just sits with us, watching crap tv for an hour.

I've forgotten now, but who has chickens? I want a couple bantams, any advice. Live in fairly average house with average garden.

Right, off to get dressed now, school run beckons.

kittywise · 26/03/2008 07:53

Yes it does shirts! And because they get MUCH hotter than an iron can they press very quickly and things look, well, pressed!

I couldn't live without it, AND the washing machine AND tumble drier AND dishwasher

Psychomum5 · 26/03/2008 13:26

good morning and afternoon....

been busy busy here today.....caught up on another 4 loads of washing, the boys had a good long splash in the bath (which ended up again, with a flooded bathroom......HOW), DD3 also had a leasurely soak, and the elder two had showers and hair washes and straightening sessions. (and the dreaded de-nitting session too)

sorted out all the solicitors letters and replies for my two car accidents........and the kiddies stuff, as they were all in the last one too.

did dippy eggs all round.....tis one meal they all enjoy.

now off to the pictures to watch 'horton hears a who' (sp??), DH's treat as he came home from work to see us, and has had to go back, so this is a 'bribe' to make 'em smile.

oh, and house is pretty clean and tidy too if you ignore the kiddies rooms, so am quite proud of me today.

catch ya all later.....
