Anyone had five of one gender, in a row??

I'm expecting for the 5th time. Sadly I lost my first daughter when I was 25 weeks pregnant. I have gone on to have three dds since and am 18 weeks pregnant with DC4. I prefer not to find out the gender. I did when my first pregnancy got into trouble at 22 weeks. They told me I was having a boy and when I delivered my daughter and looked myself to check her sex (she was stillborn) and saw she was a girl, I was filled with delight at such a sad time. For my sanity with my surviving dd1, I found out her sex at the 20w scan, but dd2 and 3 I found out the sex at birth. I am now wildy curious about the sex of this baby but don't want to find out. It's unscientific I know, but just wondering if anyone has had five of the same gender in a row. Given my history, alive and healthy is the best outcome, regardless of gender. I have to admit now though, that curiosity is really starting to get the better of me!

4madboys · 16/09/2011 22:06

i thought this would be me, i have four boys, and then had no 5...a girl! the shock! she is doted on by her brothers :)

congrats on your pregnancy and hope it goes smoothly xxx

mathanxiety · 18/09/2011 08:05

I have one family of cousins who are five girls and then the youngest a boy, and another family of cousins where there was boy, girl, boy, girl, then six boys (8 boys in all).

I knew two families in school where there were five girls and one boy each. The boys were the second oldest in each family too. Uncanny.

I have four DDs and one DS.

Shoshe · 18/09/2011 08:24

My gran had 8 boys followed by 5 girls Grin

stabbystabbykillkill · 18/09/2011 08:29

Friend of mine has 8 girls. All 18 months apart like steps of stairs.

idobelieveinfairies · 26/09/2011 14:14

I had a girl and then 6 boys and then a girl.

Hope all goes well with your pregnancy :)

UmmOfUmbridge · 23/10/2011 01:35

I had a boy then 4 girls. I'm absolutely not going to go for five in a row :o

futility · 23/10/2011 09:45

My great grandfather was one of 18 boys and 4 girls. Not sure in what order though!

imip · 24/10/2011 14:04

Well a scan accidentally revealed all! There was a set of balls! While the consultant didn't confirm, after many scans in difficult pregnancies with four girls, I have never seen two circles next to each other before.... Disappointed with the way I found out, but more excitingly it is a healthy baby!

Five boys in a row here and all the way through our pregnancy with DC5 all we were asked was if we were hoping it was a girl Hmm

ColourMeWithChaos · 19/11/2011 23:26

6 boys in a row and another one on the way at them moment! My MiL says it runs in the family though because her father was one of 7 boys as well! I've got DS1 17, DS2 14, DS3 and 4 10, DS5 5, DS6 3. Muddling this pregnancy I've always been asked if I'm hoping if it is a girl. I just want to shout at them and say I don't care what gender they are as long as they are healthy!

imip · 21/11/2011 06:56

This is the thing, now with knowing dc4 is a boy (I am only telling people in the UK, not our family in Australia), everyone is commenting, now you've got what you wanted. I feel so sad for my girls (because they say it in front of my girls!) as a boy is not why we got pregnant - it was to even out the numbers. Four felt more natural. I do often mentioned that we lost dc1, so a healthy baby is all we want, but don't want to always go into it. I feel that I may write it on my forehead after dc4 (really dc5) arrives. Then some people mention that we might try for a brother. Good Lord, after five children in six years, I do think I've reached my end!

We had a ds after 4 dd's and the number of people that assumed we were trying for a boy, aghhh, and like you have found they said it in front of dd's to. Have to say my dd's were (and still are despite the fact he is now a lively 10) thrilled, they cheered when we showed them the scan (they were teenagers at the time). And then came along another little (surprise) dd. Hope it all goes well and you all enjoy your ds, little boys are a whole knew world, and I thought it was all nurture, silly me.

mybootsaremuddy · 03/12/2011 18:06

My parents had 5 boys ME then 3 more boys! I was pretty much worshiped by the entire family as was the first girl born into dads side of the family in many many many years!!! I hated being the 'special' as i was pretty much paraded around our marae (im 1/2 maori) my grandmother was convinced i was a 'gift from the gods' and i would bring good fortune on the family etc..... I felt so sorry for my brothers who were kind of pushed aside a bit untill i found my voice aged 8 and told them all to leave me the heck alone and i was just a normal girl who wanted a normal life.

Nineflowers · 20/12/2011 16:23

5 sons. My great grandma also had 5 sons.

Yankeecandlequeen · 29/02/2012 12:36

My nan! Allbeit she's 97 now & she had 5 lads & then my mum. Sadly lost children (before & after having 6).

jshm2 · 01/03/2012 10:14

My uncle has 6 sons and absolutely hates it as it leaves him with very little time to get on with much at home.

He craves a daughter as she'll be less demanding of the father and more towards the mother.

as it stands though my aunt loves it as their all "daddies boys" and pester him to take them out. She drives a convertible and shops until she drops!

Melindaaa · 01/03/2012 10:27

I am pregnant with boy number seven. Number four child was a girl though, so they are split into two halves. I'm not counting my surrogate twins as they were ivf not using my genetics.

imip · 03/03/2012 17:03

Well, as the OP, I guess I should confess that I was stupid wrong. I must have misinterpreted the conversation with my consultant during the scan as ds1 was actually dd5. So I actually have had five of one gender in a row!!! I was sterilised during the c-section :( though I still harbour fantasties about those fallopian tubes reconnecting in about a years time, with twins of course. Would love to see if I would have a girl again.... Reading all the stories above has been lovely!

trickydickie · 04/03/2012 12:33

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter imip.

After my fourth child I too was sterilised during the c section.

I had 3 girls, then dh had a vasectomy (sp). A year and a half later we had ds1. His vasectomy was a bit of a failure, to say the least!!

I harbour no fantasies of my fallopian tubes reconnecting, only nightmares Grin

I had people say to me how delighted dh must be now he has a son. No, he was honestly delighted when he had daughters, and would have been just as delighted with a fourth daughter.

Our son has a health problem, and you are so correct in saying all anyone should ever want is a healthy child.

Congrats again.

Alltheseboys · 05/03/2012 19:45

I'm pregnant with my 5 th boy! I'm delighted but my dh was a bit disappointed thoughGrin
