continuing on from the last thread which morphed from a discussion about antisemitism to tracking it globally.

I’ve probably missed people out

to start off with something positive - this was a few yeshiva students response to antisemitism ❤️🕎

“Three Jewish college students from NJ were dancing at Denver International Airport. They said they were motivated to do this after the mass shooting in Australia: “We will not be scared or give in to the darkness, we will only add more and more light.” Happy Hanukkah!”

they’re playing my favourite zusha chanuka song, and one of them looks like DHs nephew who lives in America! Had to do a double take and check it wasn’t him!😆

Perhaps you could ask for the thread to be closed now?
I’m sorry to hear about your mental health.
It’s hard not to feel in complete despair. I think many of us live in hope that people will realise what’s going on eventually. So much of it is ridiculous, how can they not! For example The Green Party prancing around the stage with a man dressed in some kind of bondage while speaking about Islam, is um interesting to say the least.
But anyone holding so much hate for a group of people they don’t know is clearly miserable inside.

Thank you so much for your reply.

I don’t want to ask for the thread to be locked because I think it’s so important.

It upsets me so much how history is repeating itself.

So much love to you all xxx

It doesn’t feel like it’s enough though.

I mean, what happened to Never Again?

I am so ashamed at what’s going on in my home country, I really am. The threat to the Jewish community no longer comes from the so called far right (unless you count in the hardcore Hitler followers), but more the left.

Which is scary because it’s so casual; hidden among rainbow flags and under the umbrella of ‘we all love each other’.

I’m Irish, so I know exactly how you feel - Im horrified at how readily so many people have become so radicalised - it’s like an obsession. It’s funny because when I say something in real life, people are mostly fairly reasonable (at least to my face) but on Irish discussion sites it’s complete madness. I don’t know whether those are more extreme people - but going by the media coverage I’m not even sure they are.

LucyWestenra · 01/04/2026 21:48

So apparently I am unhinged and Islamophobic

😭

It’s the first time I’ve felt shame about being Irish.

My Jewish family will be in Ireland and Northern Ireland this summer. You wouldn’t know we are Jewish unless we mention it, but should we… not?

I’d say it should be fine. I’m certain they wouldn’t be in any physical danger, but there might be some people who would be rude enough to make a comment. The thing in Ireland is that (oddly maybe given our history - or maybe that’s why we’re like that!) people are generally afraid of personal conflict. Like, Irish people don’t generally complain in restaurants. So if they know you’re Jewish (especially if they’ve already had a friendly interaction with you first, which is pretty easy in Ireland) most people would probably be careful to be nice to you, regardless of what they might say if they thought you were Palestinian!

That said, it’s become so closely associated both to the whole “left/progressive” thing, and also to Irish nationalism, that I can’t guarantee that you won’t meet some “holier than thou” person who might take it on themselves to lecture you, “how can you go around killing babies” sort of thing. But most likely not.

Also, most people in Ireland have never met a Jew so if they already like you, I think that could actually help them see they’re being manipulated. OTOH I don’t want to tell someone it’s somehow their “duty” to earn people’s friendship either. So I’d say it depends on how you feel the situation is going and whether you want to take that risk.

(And if you go to the loyalist areas in Northern Ireland, they’ll just love you - nationalists support Palestine because loyalists support Israel, and vice versa, it’s nearly like football teams.)

Personally I rarely bring up the subject first, but when it comes up, when someone says “genocide” or whatever, I always say what I think, and I’ve never had a problem. People are actually surprised - they assume everyone thinks the same. You’ve no idea how bad the Irish media is on this.

SpuytenDuyvil · 02/04/2026 01:00

These kinds of interactions are entirely different if you are not Jewish. It is difficult to understand the threat we all feel.

Edited

Yes I’m very aware that it’s very different when, like me, someone is not directly affected - that’s why I said I don’t want to put any “responsibility” on someone to announce their Jewishness as some sort of morality test for the person they’re talking to.

But I do have my own version of understanding that fear of possibly putting yourself in a horrible or even dangerous position, having grown up in Northern Ireland during the troubles where even just telling someone my first name marked me out as being “the other side”. Or the opposite of course - we had more even numbers than Jews who are a tiny minority, but it was still possible to be on your own at certain times. So I can imagine it’s that feeling of isolation pretty much everywhere you go and all the time.

EllaDisenchanted · 03/04/2026 09:55

Hen is very good, and typically quite balanced.
this stood out to me “There is a specific kind of statement made by silence. When Kanye walked onto that stage and offered no acknowledgment of what he’d done, that wasn’t a mistake. It told every Jewish person watching that the apology in the Wall Street Journal was exactly what it looked like: a strategic document timed to a release cycle, not a reckoning. It told every non-Jew watching something more dangerous: that you don’t actually have to fear punishment for attacking Jews. You just have to wait.”

That's actually left me speechless with horror, @EllaDisenchanted .
That "art" exhibition was inexcusable. This statement is a hate crime.

NotAtMyAge · 03/04/2026 11:31

I saw that and could hardly believe my eyes. I'm not Jewish, but am a supporter and I recently subscribed to the Jewish Chronicle daily newsletter to keep up-to-date.

stomachamelon · 03/04/2026 20:22

Have forwarded that to both MP’s in Thanet @EllaDisenchanted

I see Zach Polanski was posting from his Passover Seder with the vile creature that is OWEN JONES!! Urgh….

EdithStourton · 03/04/2026 22:07

I honestly don't know what Zach P thinks he's doing.

OrangeAxolotyl · 03/04/2026 22:33

He thinks he's being clever. He thinks he'll get power.
He's a hare who is running with the hounds and he'll get ripped apart.

OrangeAxolotyl · 03/04/2026 23:44

The men charged are home grown.

stomachamelon · 04/04/2026 02:59

Home grown and very young. Wonder who is behind this and helped them? Due to their ages they will only get a slap on the wrist!!

Maybe just growing up in a culture of hate? All will be revealed, I'm sure.

Very happy to see that Wireless festival has now been cancelled and Kanye West not allowed to enter the country.
Although I found out this news from a friend who seems to be outraged because apparently people who are racist to black people don’t get the same punishment as he has. She followed up to say that because the PM’s wife is Jewish he’s more aware of the antisemitism issues in the UK compared to other communities. Which made me think she’s suggesting they have special privileges. And this is a good friend, not one that I’ve had any issue with throughout the last 2 years.
I thought she was sending me this because she was happy for the Jews to get a small
win Confused

NasturtiumsAreUnderrated · 07/04/2026 15:48

@Diamond82 That's a good article - I might share it.

Diamond82 · 07/04/2026 15:50

And now there’s an AIBU on Kanye, apparently some people don’t believe there’s a good reason to ban him from entering the county…

ashleysilver · 07/04/2026 16:18

It just makes me think that the music industry must be really horrible. It's not just one person. KW works with other musicians, management, staff, producers, promoters and so forth. All of these people were OK with the behaviour, didn't care because they wanted the money, or at best turned a blind eye.
