The bodies of four more hostages have been returned https://www.jpost.com/israel-news/defense-news/article-870414

I hope the others follow shortly so the families can have some closure.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 14/10/2025 23:50

I hope the 4 families have been notified of the identities, which I understand hammas refused to give the details - there are 24 families waiting.

I hope the remaining 20 hostages are returned quickly.

EllaDisenchanted · 15/10/2025 05:57

Tamir nimrodi, and Uriel Baruch so far confirmed to have been returned. יהי זכרם ברוך 💔💔 2 are still undergoing identification.
4 more set for release today.
the fact they are releasing 4 a day means they are laughing in our face. If they were truly lost they would be releasing as many as they could as soon as they found them, not 4 at a time, every day.

PurpleThistle7 · 15/10/2025 06:29

@EllaDisenchanted It’s horrifying. It’s all so terribly sad. Those poor families.

At least Tamir’s family knows now - those interviews with his mother were heartbreaking, I couldn’t stop thinking about her. What a sad, sad day.

gingergran · 15/10/2025 06:47

There is now speculation that one of the four bodies returned last night does not belong to a hostage but rather to a Palestinian. How low can they sink

SharonEllis · 15/10/2025 07:02

Oh that's horrifying. They are making a complete mockery, with the hostages and their rampages in Gaza.

EllaDisenchanted · 15/10/2025 07:32

Times of Israel confirm the third body as Eitan Levy, and reports:
”A body returned by Hamas yesterday does not belong to any of the hostages held by the terror group, and instead belongs to a Palestinian from Gaza, a security official tells Hebrew media outlets.
The three other bodies returned were identified as Tamir Nimrodi, Eitan Levy, and Uriel Baruch.”

Of course they did this! Look how much this exact move was celebrated and justified by useful idiots all over the world when they did it with Shiri Bibas. The amount of people who fell for it was truly staggering, so they were always going to do it again. Absolute barbarians.

@stomachamelon was completely right when she pointed out that people believe Hamas casualty statistics without second thought, but then also believe that they don't know where the vast majority of the hostages' remains are 🙄

gingergran · 14/10/2025 07:14

@PurpleThistle7just goes to show (as we all knew) that the marches were never about peace or a ceasefire

💯

Off topic but I recently came across this recording of survivors in Bergen Belsen singing Hatikvah on Friday night after liberation. The song predates the state of Israel and the end lyrics are slightly different from the version we use as the national anthem. They end with Am Yisrael Chai. Very moving.

Richard Dimbleby is the speaker at the start.

Eitan Mor, former hostage, came out of hospital today. He drove past our neighborhood, so DH, DS and one of my brothers went to join in lining the streets for him 🤩🇮🇱 I would have gone but was working.
DH went to listen to his father speak right at the start of the war and said it felt full circle to see him drive past ☺️

Here's an interesting editorial by an American Rabbi about antisemitism in the UK and one thing we, as Americans, could do to help.

America Can Give Refuge to British Jews The U.K. has made clear they’re no longer welcome there.

The situation here isn't perfect, but it seems much worse in Britain.

MissConductUS · 04/11/2025 10:02

Here's another opinion piece from the WSJ. It's written by one of the Israelis who worked on the hostage release negotiations with Hamas, and makes a very good case that the hostage taking undermined their position and led to their defeat.

Taking Hostages Turned Out to Be Hamas’s Undoing - While the terror group was torturing Israeli civilians, its defenders in the West simply looked ridiculous.

I don't think Hamas taking civilian hostages bothered the kooky far left at all, but it really changed the narrative for everyone else.

For me, I was disgusted by some British reactions to 7/10.
It's also the reason why many British Jews feel unsafe I think.
The fwr people call it the omnicause, a product of identity politics where you must embrace political views aligning with your identity. There isn't a lot of critical thinking involved imo, not if you actually value social cohesion in your home country.

I hadn't heard of the omnicause, but found lots of discussion about it online, including this:

"Queers for Palestine" does indeed seem an odd combination, given the muslim world's view of homosexuality, but who are the fwr people?

A board on here. Feminism&women's rights. It's not to everyone's taste but I like the combination of humorous women and interesting info.
It can be a rough ride if you disagree (or seem to be a troublemaker), but they generally trade in reasoned arguments rather than emotive diatribes.

Thanks, I have popped in on the board when I see a thread that looks interesting, but it's just an occasional visit.

I retired recently, and find that now that I'm not sitting in front of a computer for eight hours a day, I have a lot less time to scroll MN and other social media sites.

😁 it's a good thing to have an active retirement, too many people seem to lose purpose.
OTOH as the WSJ notes, you need time on your hands to indulge in activism, most people are too busy with life and before you know it, you or your family are impacted by the cause de jour. The 'political' boards are like the proverbial canary in the coalmine.

MissConductUS · 04/11/2025 14:33

Quantum, I'm much too busy doing painting projects and decluttering the house to engage in activism. 😁And the holidays are coming up.

I'm actually a pretty apolitical person. I vote in every election, but the idea of giving money to politicians or stopping traffic while holding a sign and shouting about something always struck me as a bit absurd and useless. Oddly enough, today is election day here in the US. I voted last week, but lots of people are voting today. NYC looks like it will probably elect a 34-year-old socialist who's never had a real job as mayor, G-d help them. Fortunately, I live outside of the city, so I won't be directly affected.

TBF I think if you've served your country, in whatever role, you've done more than most. On mn that would label me as right wing..but all the quizzes tell me I'm centre left libertarian.
It's coming up to armistice day in the UK, time to remember lessons learned we hope.

Here’s a lovely interview with the Israeli Ambassador to the U.S., discussing why he’s optimistic about the future of our relations. I quite agree with him.

The Israeli Case for Optimism About America Despite hostility on both left and right, Amb. Yechiel Leiter sees the alliance becoming even stronger in years to come.

he’s an interesting bloke.

Why isn’t Mumsnet going mad about what’s happening in Iran? I thought they were all feminists, I've barely seen any threads.

EllaDisenchanted · 18/01/2026 06:52

its disturbing. It’s the main topic of conversation here in real life

OP posts:

It is very disturbing. I didn't think I could be shocked after the silence of 7 October, but here we are.We all know the reason. My enemy's enemy is my friend. If ever you needed a clear example of how all the protests here are nothing to do with justice or human rights, and all about hating Israel, this is it.

That conclusion is being reached on this side of the pond as well.

Iran Cracks Down. Where Are the Western Protests? - ‘It’s a bit like Gaza,’ says a BBC journalist, in what is an unintentionally revealing remark.

The idea that Israel is the "oppressor" and everyone else in the Middle East who would like it to disappear is so embedded that it can do no wrong. In the minds of the far left here, it warps their perception of everything. Any regime that considers Israel an enemy can do no wrong and is above criticism. As you can see from the article above, others are pointing out how glaringly illogical and absurd this is.

May I go off topic for a moment? I had open heart surgery a few weeks ago (a triple coronary bypass graft), and the recovery has been challenging. I also have a long period of cardiac rehab/physiotherapy that will start when I'm a bit stronger. Your prayers would be much appreciated. I normally wouldn't ask such a thing on social media, but you all have come to feel like friends. Thanks in advance, ladies.
