I’ve tagged a few people to start off the next thread. Please tag anyone else I’ve missed.
I felt bad calling it Mumsnet could do better 😬

I hardly dare to hope for you and yours over there Ella. The WSJ article is hopeful and tragic.

In UK, lots of young & indignant people (& young is relative - anywhere to mid 30s😁) are still young and indignant...and divisive. But they don't have to live in the reality of a war zone.

Thank you for the thread, looking forward to another place to share a bit of humour and support on mn when time and mood takes. I found this place 20+ years ago with my first troublesome pregnancy so being accused of being a shill or a bot gives my humdrum existence some colour. In reality I'd be a terrible agent...though that's what an agent would say😁. My life influences tend to encourage me not to grab a flaming pitchfork and join over excited mobs & I'm disconcerted by the number of people in the UK that don't share that instinct but should know better. Still, the ones who are visibly protesting are the least sinister I suppose, behind them there is something a wee bit more worrying.

stomachamelon · 09/10/2025 08:21

@quantumbutterflyi did speak to Mumsnet about that at the weekend- the shill and bot comments as they were blatant. I confirmed that the people were in fact long term users and asked them to be removed as it’s against policy.
They were very receptive.
I always keep a record of anything I think or perceive to stray into hate speech/ antisemitism and have reported before to outside agencies.
It’s not as bad now but I had months of relentless hounding and attacks on here. I had a break for a while and came back (but avoided certain threads) and tried to see the joy in solidarity on here.
It’s the refusal to believe I may actually be frightened or concerned that gets me. Even in light of last weeks attack. How dare they?

On the hostage body note I said this on the other thread. The Hamas Health Ministry are very specific about how many are killed or injured daily so to ‘lose’ 7-15 bodies of your prized possession seemed highly unlikely.

Am Yisrael chai.

gingergran · 09/10/2025 08:22

@OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon maybe Israel should lose a few of the prisoners they want in exchange until the bodies are found, The truth is that hamas and Islamic jihad have no intention of treating them with any level of respect so I wouldn’t be surprised if they genuinely do not know where some of the remains have been kept. We talk about bodies but we have no idea of their condition.

I can't imagine how families and friends are getting through these agonisingly slow seconds, minutes, hours... and am praying for the safe return of anyone who can be safely returned. What happened to Hersh and his co-captives burned a hole in my soul.

I just want to confess that I am not Jewish and therefore don't belong here. I am sorry to have muscled in. I was married to a Jewish man for 15 years, so not a complete stranger, but still.

@Beachtastic, I just wanted to mention that I also am not Jewish, but have been warmly welcomed on these threads. I think that would be true for anyone who posted respectfully and had something positive to add to the conversation. Welcoming strangers is a core value of all Abrahamic religions.

Thank you! I have posted so much in support of Israel over the past couple of years (dreading the hostile responses) that I would hope to qualify as a sort of honorary member, as it were... but just wanted to check I am not being disrespectful. The Jewish community has so much on its plate that I don't want to make any assumptions about what's helpful and what isn't.

quantumbutterfly · 09/10/2025 09:31

Btw nice chicken soup emoji..or Jewish antibiotic as my colleague used to call it. The go to recipe for my university son when he gets home - food is my love language.

Speaking only for myself I welcome anyone who feels this is a place for them. My husband isn't Jewish but he is a staunch ally.

your staunch allyship has been seen and appreciated ❤️

thank you for recognising it was chicken soup @quantumbutterfly 😄 it wouldn’t be right to have this thread without some form of food mentioned…
I have three chickens defrosted waiting for me to cut up, to make chicken soup, chicken quarters, and shnitzel. Not my favourite job 🥴

Seconded. Seeing people stand with us makes the world seem a lot less scary and lonely.

EdithStourton · 09/10/2025 13:47

@EllaDisenchanted thank you for the new thread and the tag.

I'm also not Jewish, though I had a lot of Jewish friends at uni, many of whom I'm still in touch with. I went on the first big march with some of those friends and a complete stranger said to me, 'You're one of us today'. It was an incredibly peaceful protest, with people thanking the (very bored) police for being there.

I have noticed over the years that there are more pro-Israel voices on the CITME threads, though I don't go there very often - it's so wearing to have to repeat on a loop that is perfectly possible to be a non-Jew, and to criticise Israel, and NOT be accused of antisemitism.

On the plus side, hostage releases now promised 'within days'.
On the minus, I still don't trust Hamas as far as I could throw them.

pepperaunt · 09/10/2025 15:30

I hope I’m being paranoid but I’m a bit concerned that the “lost” bodies have been unalived quite recently and that’s why they’re hiding them.

Nossuperesse · 09/10/2025 18:04

Ido Aharoni, former Israeli Consul General in New York, now Chair of the America-Israel Friendship League and Professor at Touro University, explains a lot:

Why wouldn't you trust Hamas?! Just because they're trying to kidnap even more soldiers while simultaneously claiming to be working towards the release of hostages doesn't mean they're not trustworthy! They're just really misunderstood 🥹🥹🥹🥹

Did they not get the memo?

gingergran · 09/10/2025 20:27

@EllaDisenchanted only if Iran tells them too. They have been installing bomb shelters in open areas in Eilat over the last few days so it doesn't seem very hopeful.

Because of the drone attacks? I’m shocked they don’t already have tbh

Ha ha, same - my uni/not living at home kids love my chicken soup when they come back. Jewish penecillin!
