Antisemitism

I read the posts on here with interest and often the subject of anti semitism comes up. I was brought up in a town in the South East. My mum gave me a book about Anne Frank when I was around 8 and I can remember asking ' what is a Jew?' as I had never met one. When I was about 14 a girl from northern Israel came to my school and I was asked to befriend her and help her settle in. I can remember being fascinated about her life in a Kibbutz and she used to show me
Hebrew writing. I don't recall ever hearing anything anti semitic about her or her brother as the only two Jewish kids - to my knowledge in the school. I also remember in my twenties encountering a group of lads from North London - white something and them having an absolute hatred for Jewish people. I can remember feeling utterly shocked as I'd never heard anti Jewish speak prior to this. Reading some of the recent posts on here it has made me wonder wherever there are pockets in the Uk with Jewish communities that experience antisemitism where the rest of the UK it does not occur as people simply have never met a Jewish person just their life- to their knowledge.Where I live I have only met 4 Jewish people in the Uk in my life and I am 47. The most Jewish people I have met were in Israel when I visited in 2000.

It's very disheartening, Errol.

And it brings me back again to my bafflement that the politic views of performers of various sorts are considered any more significant than the political views of random solicitors, shopkeepers or kitchen fitters.

SharonEllis · 04/11/2025 17:19

That's disappointing. And Marks and Spencer of all companies!

The messaging (lying) around this has been shameful

@ErroltheSwampDragon I would be posting this on the ‘fans banned’ thread but it’s full.

I know! The founder would be rolling in his grave…

Thanks for all of the recent updates.

Sad to see who has been elected as the new mayor of NYC.

Could I ask why @stomachamelon is it not legit?

After that video she posted I can’t watch dawn french at all without feeling repulsed.

That's appalling, they should be getting more effective protection from the police.

stomachamelon · 06/11/2025 09:10

I just horrifying. How does the wanton destruction of a synagogue signify anything other than antisemitism?
@EllaDisenchanted I know what you mean about Dawn French. There are a few people I just don’t look at in the same way- her being one of them.

Diamond82 · 06/11/2025 10:49

Thanks for the update regarding the Canadian synagogue, I’m so sorry this has become their reality. It seems to be the same story with the police in many countries.

Same for me with Dawn French and that Nadia woman who did the smug video although that was no loss to me, Dawn French I used to really like. Very frustrating about the M&S Christmas ad too.
I don’t want to become obsessed with boycotting but certain people, actors like Nicola Coughlin for example, I can’t look past it when I see them on screen, so I guess no more Bridgerton for me.

A ban on face covering at demonstrations might help to limit numbers.

I agree about the face coverings but they don’t seem to want to put any proper rules in place for these hamas supporters. I really can’t believe what I’m reading in regards to this. Even schools have to close early. This is madness that police cannot and don’t seem to want to get on top of it.
“We remain committed to maintaining the city’s reputation as a safe and welcoming place for everyone.
Is just a joke. It must be very scary for people living close by especially Jews.

Kristallnacht anniversary and Remembrance Sunday coincided yesterday.

My Grandmother was a little girl in Vienna during Kristallnacht, and was very fortunate to escape with her brothers, aunts, and cousins to London afterwards, although I believe at least one if not both of her older brothers were interned on the Isle of Man due to their age (she was orphaned of both parents pre-war). Her uncles had a business in London, and had been away when Kristallnacht occurred, and were able to bring over their family afterwards. Her second husband, my grandfather (much older than her), served as a mechanic and driver in the British Army for 5 years during the war.

As I'm focusing on watching and recording the rising anti-semitism world-wide, I want to remember the other side of the coin too, and personally, my gratitude for Britain, the safe haven it offered my grandmother, and the sacrifice made by so many.

"Lest we forget."

In the wake of the many complaints about the BBC and the resignation of Tim Davie, this is an interesting read:
https://www.jewishnews.co.uk/the-10-worst-examples-of-bbc-anti-israel-bias-as-revealed-in-damning-dossier/amp/

I have felt for a long time that the BBC's coverage of Israel is horrendously skewed and has fed into the change of atmosphere in the UK.

BeretInParis · 10/11/2025 12:58

It is interesting that the focus of the report (and subsequent news coverage, understandably) is on BBC Arabic's coverage of the war. I can't say I'm surprised that coverage targeting historically Jew-hating countries on Israel's borders and their diaspora is antisemitic / biased.

Frankly, I am constantly disappointed by the coverage in this country, the UK. Which now does have a biased and antisemitic view of Jews and Israel as a direct result of the BBC's coverage and editorial choices (when many simply had no view at all prior to 7 Oct).

EdithStourton · 10/11/2025 20:36

Likewise, @BeretInParis.

I have been appalled by elements of the BBC's UK coverage of the Gaza war. The one that stands out was Jeremy Bowen happily taking Hamas's word for it that the evil Israelis had bombed the Al Ahli Hospital. Later reports were mixed, and included the possibility that it was a misfire from within Gaza. JB announced that he was perfectly happy with what he'd said and would say it again.

A month or two I decided to give Radio 4 news a try for the first time in probably over a year. Within about 2 minutes, the presenter said something like, 'Hamas operatives, described by the government as "terrorists"'. I started shouting and turned him off.

Jeremy Bowen is quite odious in his bias - I’ve mostly swapped BBC news for Times radio these days. The BBC has totally lost my trust WRT impartial reporting on this, and other issues. When you know something about the issues it’s easy to spot the bias, but they are totally responsible for spreading misinformation to those who are uninformed 🤬

EllaDisenchanted · 14/11/2025 06:01

This is horrifying 😨 it’s the medieval version of the blood in its pure undoctored form! Absolutely shocking 😳

Diamond82 · 14/11/2025 08:00

This was absolutely sickening. Dov Forman posted about it and added an update in the comments and I’ll add the screenshot.
