Antisemitism

bubbleandsqueak1976 · 25/03/2024 19:22

I read the posts on here with interest and often the subject of anti semitism comes up. I was brought up in a town in the South East. My mum gave me a book about Anne Frank when I was around 8 and I can remember asking ' what is a Jew?' as I had never met one. When I was about 14 a girl from northern Israel came to my school and I was asked to befriend her and help her settle in. I can remember being fascinated about her life in a Kibbutz and she used to show me
Hebrew writing. I don't recall ever hearing anything anti semitic about her or her brother as the only two Jewish kids - to my knowledge in the school. I also remember in my twenties encountering a group of lads from North London - white something and them having an absolute hatred for Jewish people. I can remember feeling utterly shocked as I'd never heard anti Jewish speak prior to this. Reading some of the recent posts on here it has made me wonder wherever there are pockets in the Uk with Jewish communities that experience antisemitism where the rest of the UK it does not occur as people simply have never met a Jewish person just their life- to their knowledge.Where I live I have only met 4 Jewish people in the Uk in my life and I am 47. The most Jewish people I have met were in Israel when I visited in 2000.

Such awful news. 12 now confirmed dead. My middle son lives in Australia and he has said there is discussion there about a bomb.
Once more we go through the apologists and the ‘it’s not a targeted attack’ when we know the truth.
Love to all. Feel at a loss again.

SharonEllis · 14/12/2025 12:03

I think the mainstream news is finally starting to imply that it was a targetted attack. I suppose they have to be careful - they have got things wrong in the past - but now we need people to be robust in calling it what is is. Just awful, I am so sorry, sending love.

Feeling quite shaken by the Bondi beach shooting this morning. My thoughts are with the victims, their families and all those affected.

I’m very frustrated by how long it took the BBC to acknowledge that it was an antisemitic attack. The earlier reporting was bizarre - a mass shooting had occurred, at or near to where a large gathering of Jews was taking place, but it apparently wasn’t clear it was an attack aimed at Jews…

I knew before I went on the BBC this morning that they would carefully not mention anything about Jews until as late as they could possibly 'excusably' get away with, and lo and behold.

Fits their pattern. They've been caught out with misleading headlines in the past: 1 Palestinian shot/killed in Jerusalem, and then when you would click on it you'd find out that actually he was a terrorist and had stabbed/shot people and been shot by the police/army. But if you read the headlines only as they know many people do...

https://www.i24news.tv/en/news/israel/148184-170618-bbc-admits-to-misleading-in-jerusalem-stabbing-attack-headline

There is blood on the hands of reporters who have wilfully fed into the spread of misinformation, and misleading people. On the hands of the politicians who again and again turned a blind eye. On the hands of all those who have ignored Jews (and allies) screaming for the last few years that antisemitism is rising, and who have shouted us down with 'criticising Israel is not anti-semitism'.

Devastated, but not shocked.

Sending love and support to the Jewish community right now. So angry at those who have been pandering to the “globalise the intifada” crowd.

Standingforever · 14/12/2025 12:51

Just heard the awful news and have come on to give love and support and solidarity to everyone on this board. Not Jewish but standing with you.

Sewingaddict · 14/12/2025 14:18

my heart goes out to the families of the 11 dead and those in hospital.

Like @EllaDisenchanted i am utterly devastated but not shocked.

BeretInParis · 14/12/2025 14:22

No one on this board is surprised. Unfortunately.

Comedycook · 14/12/2025 14:45

Horrendous news...also, like many of us, not shocked unfortunately.

Sewingaddict · 14/12/2025 15:24

I’need to put my phone down, as mumsnet and the rest of the internet is giving me the utter rage.

I hope everyone has a lovely evening, we’re being basic, as most of our stuff is packed up for our move and it’s just dh and I and we’re both under the weather!
Hanukkah sameach 💛

stomachamelon · 14/12/2025 15:46

Am going to an event in a bit locally. Just been reminded there will be security. Sobering thought!

LeaningOnTheEverlastingArms · 14/12/2025 16:48

Just came to say how devastated I feel about this hideous attack. I stand with you.
Am Yisrael Chai 🙏🏻🕎

Diamond82 · 14/12/2025 17:04

Sending love to anyone in Australia or anyone who has loved ones there. Can’t believe this is how Hanukkah is starting today but obviously also not surprised.

MarieDeGournay · 14/12/2025 17:23

I posted this on another thread, but it can't be said often enough, or to enough people -

Not Jewish but stopping by to express my solidarity. May the lights of Chanukah shine even more brightly in this darkness.

ChristmasMantleStatue · 14/12/2025 17:37

I'm utterly devastated.

I probably need to step away from other threads because the anti semites are out in force.

I'm so angry, so hurt, so helpless. So fed up with what we all have to go through time and time again, throughout history.

Ladyymuck · 15/12/2025 07:15

Though I am not Jewish, my heart is heavy over the brutality of yet another attack on innocent Jews, especially during what should have been a time of joy. I offer my deepest sympathy and stand in solidarity.

LucyWestenra · 15/12/2025 20:47

I am not Jewish (I am actually German but my husband is British) but I stand with the Jewish community wholeheartedly.

Thank you @EllaDisenchanted for the invite.

I feel honoured.

I have been so utterly appalled and disgusted by the blatant antisemitism on this forum and all over this country.

The attacks of 07 October were beyond barbaric and vile and the fact that the UK government formally recognised the state of Palestine just before the anniversary and the Pro Palestine marches were allowed to go ahead that week were beyond the pale.

And then the Manchester synagogue attack.

And then Bondi Beach.

There are people who stand with you.

those threads are making me want to say things that would definitely get me banned from MN (I was on with another username) - well done @LucyWestenra at trying to get people to have a reasonable discussion.

On the plus side a lot of people are clearly seeing the extent of the antisemitism...

I should say that I previously posted under a different name too.

I have to admit to my shame that a combination of bad mental health (family issues and homesickness) and abuse for sticking up for the Jewish community (a poster by the name of ‘nomas’ was very outspoken) led me to delete my account.

But I’m back now and I am an ally. 💯 percent

Sewingaddict · 15/12/2025 21:42

I've deleted my account a couple of times at this point and come back, due to just utter rage, to basically get me to step away from the situation, i don't know why I keep coming back, its so fucking depressing. (I was originally the poster who showed my chickens on the mnhq could do better threads)
