I read the posts on here with interest and often the subject of anti semitism comes up. I was brought up in a town in the South East. My mum gave me a book about Anne Frank when I was around 8 and I can remember asking ' what is a Jew?' as I had never met one. When I was about 14 a girl from northern Israel came to my school and I was asked to befriend her and help her settle in. I can remember being fascinated about her life in a Kibbutz and she used to show me
Hebrew writing. I don't recall ever hearing anything anti semitic about her or her brother as the only two Jewish kids - to my knowledge in the school. I also remember in my twenties encountering a group of lads from North London - white something and them having an absolute hatred for Jewish people. I can remember feeling utterly shocked as I'd never heard anti Jewish speak prior to this. Reading some of the recent posts on here it has made me wonder wherever there are pockets in the Uk with Jewish communities that experience antisemitism where the rest of the UK it does not occur as people simply have never met a Jewish person just their life- to their knowledge.Where I live I have only met 4 Jewish people in the Uk in my life and I am 47. The most Jewish people I have met were in Israel when I visited in 2000.

I would be doing this too if it wasn't for the fact that I'm 76! Both DDs are married to British men who definitely aren't up for moving away although if I was their age I would be wanting to.

I just saw Owen Jones' response to that, which is is repulsive but he has a massive following and it's very illustrative of how we are where we are. The way he sneaks in "tolerance of antisemitism" in Labour (meaning Starmer's not Corbyn's) is so fucking disingenuous.

British Jews are generally very anti-racist and anti-fascist (because reasons) but they're leaving little room for us to be part of the response to the riots.

I think it's partly a lack of history education and partly too many catchy TikTok soundbites. The youth of today (🙃) also aren't learning critical thinking at school. They in general don't learn how to research and distinguish fact from fiction. They believe what they read without really questioning it. Even those who do question it don't form their own opinions, they just go down the confirmation bias route and find someone who agrees with their own general thoughts and then make that their opinion instead. It's all quite odd. Technology has moved way too fast for the human brain to be able to adapt to it properly!

We move around a lot for dh work, both in the UK and abroad and just urgh, I hate where we live at the moment, both in the sense of the place we live and some of the comments been made to us/about us and just general antisemitic remarks, but also just the general simmering wide UK thing. If anyone on this thread becomes a billionaire overnight, can we set up a jewish mumsnetters island? I can bring tasty food and sewing skills to the island.

Jury's still out for me on the Oblast and I prefer a hotter climate, so a JMnetters Island sounds good, but we'd need to find a location? Did the Nazis not have a plan to shift us all to Madagascar (before they decided wholesale killing us would be easier)? Perhaps we could revisit that if any of the peripheral islands are vacant.
