Ok I have taken the bait because I think it's important we have somewhere to chat and decompress.

There is an awful lot of name changing going on and we must remember that although it should be, this is not a safe space. We are followed here and that is worth considering (especially if you don't want to be deleted)

I am grateful for all the love and support though and I thank each and every one of you. You are all stronger than you know. I wish I had something profound to say but I don't...: this will have to do!

I have posted on the main conflict boards for the first time in a while.
I don't think my return is going to be popular.

@Jupitersstorm 😂Brave. Godspeed.

But feels good to be back in this sanctuary.

I just posted a rather long reply to someone re: Northern Ireland who thought they know it better than moi.

I also address the reality that Israel is dealing with a terrorist group in Hamas who make PIRA look like a nursery group. Of course, the UK never bombed Republican areas - I mean, these are tiny areas really. Usually single streets and Belfast is quite closely packed.

It also took the UK a while to develop an effective strategy against PIRA too. Why on earth would anyone think Israel should already have a sound strategy now? It will take time.

Honestly, I'd much rather face PIRA again than have to deal with Hamas! 🙈🤣

Several posts have me going all Hastings with "God! Give me strength!".

You can't discuss posts on other threads here, or name posters btw.

Really?

Wasn't aware of that, so cheers!

noblegiraffe · 08/01/2024 00:33

Yes, that's why posts are being deleted.

So you get lurkers here to want to see if they are being talked about then report posts where they are being talked about, which makes it less likely that they'll be talked about and more likely that they'll just be presented with pictures of Corbyn in his pants.

Maybe that's what they want.

EllaDisenchanted · 08/01/2024 01:11

@noblegiraffe NOOOOOOO!!!! (Somebody stop her, please!)

0palfrootee · 08/01/2024 08:03

Re deletions - my deleted post wasn't even about a specific poster or thread. It was a general comment on that board. Honestly I think some people just report posts they don't like the look of and MN don't pay too much attention, instead just hitting delete.

My previous didn't name anyone either. Was a general comment on a particular thread without naming it.

I'm not convinced reports are properly looked at and an auto delete is occurring (just deleting anyway irrespective of merits).

Lostmyphoneagain · 08/01/2024 08:13

That isn’t really true though. Both the deleted posts identified a specific thread and your post identified a specific poster (who you described as an idiot).
It’s not a conspiracy you just broke the talk guidelines

Nope, no names was mentioned by me at all. Post was deleted for the "idiots" and "idiot" comment.

Not for naming a specific poster. 🤷‍♂️

Humdingerydoo · 08/01/2024 08:37

As far as I can see, there's no mention of not being allowed to discuss other threads or posts. I just checked the guidelines again to be sure, and it doesn't mention it.

I guess it was the insults that were the problem then?

Lostmyphoneagain · 08/01/2024 08:41

I don’t think you have to name them tbh.* *If you’ve singled someone out then it could be seen as a personal attack.

Humdingerydoo · 08/01/2024 08:55

@Lostmyphoneagain since we have you here and you appear to be more lurker than Jewish (apologies if I got that wrong! I'm basing that on the fact you have no posting history apart from the posts this morning), could you explain what you are trying to achieve by being here just to read and report posts? I have no problem with posts that go against guidelines being reported and removed, I'm just curious as to why you and/or others would be on here in the first place? Are you just keeping an eye on us, and if so why? Or are you here because you're looking for answers about something? And if so, what? Maybe one of us has an answer for you 🤷🏻‍♀️

It’s generally considered bad form to take things from one thread to another, and threads about threads aren’t allowed.

I would also be interested in an answer to this question.

I'm not trying to be difficult, I just can't see that mentioned anywhere in their guidelines.

If discussing other threads makes people on here feel uncomfortable then I'm happy to stop doing so. Presumably part of the reason for this board existing is for there to be a 'safe space ' to discuss issues or difficulties Jews experience, so if discussing other threads makes others feel uncomfortable it is perfectly reasonable to ask us to stop. The only reason I do it is because the biggest issues I personally experience day to day is with online comments, so felt natural to then discuss those issues with others online. No offence or discomfort has been intended, so my apologies

noblegiraffe · 08/01/2024 09:22

It might not be explicitly in the guidelines but it is definitely something that will get your posts deleted…we had this exact thing with a hidden teacher support thread that was set up during Covid. Talking about how shit it was on the main board in general terms was ok. Talking about how posters on a particular thread were being dickheads was not. Personal attacks aren’t allowed.

I understand that, and I've tried to be mindful of that when posting. After my 1-week-turned-into-3-week ban over Christmas I was trying to work out what is and isn't allowed. I wasn't receiving MN emails as the inbox in question has been full since 2020 😅 So I was genuinely clueless as to what I'd done wrong.

Understandably, personal attacks are not, and should not, be allowed. I just didn't realise the same applies to discussing specific threads. Which is fine! I'm really not trying to get into an argument with you or anyone else about it, I'm still new to MN so appreciate being told what is and isn't deemed ok. Regardless of rules :)

noblegiraffe · 08/01/2024 09:36

I’d rather not give lurkers the satisfaction of getting posts deleted so just sharing my experience!

etmoiandme · 08/01/2024 09:41

@Humdingerydoo It doesn't make me feel uncomfortable discussing other threads BUT it's better to do so more ambiguously because it will just result in bad-faith lurkers like PP reporting the post because they've got nothing better to do than obsess over a safe-space thread for Jewish women and their allies. It's a game for them and they'll be positively delighting over getting posts deleted over here so best not to feed their sick enjoyment.

IMO what MN should be doing is questioning why these posters are lurking over here in the first place (not to mention better moderation of the misinformation and antisemitism on the general threads). There's no way a Jewish MNetter would report a post from this board, so why are they over here? It's pathetic and should be against the talk guidelines too IMO.

Humdingerydoo · 08/01/2024 09:42

Agreed, @noblegiraffe! I'm still hoping for an answer to my question earlier so we can figure out why there are lurkers. If it's just to make sure a group of predominantly Jewish women behaves themselves then that's a bit creepy, so I'm hoping it's because they're trying to learn something new. In which case I'm happy to help where possible!

I'm a bit concerned though that people are lurking in order to try and gauge Jewish opinion about something, in which case they're in for quite the surprise when they realise the posters on here aren't representative of all Jews 🤪 And that there is a common Jewish joke about there being two Jews alone in a room but three opinions.

Humdingerydoo · 08/01/2024 09:45

It's almost like all of us on here, Jews and non-Jews alike, are individuals with individual opinions 😳
