Ok I have taken the bait because I think it's important we have somewhere to chat and decompress.

There is an awful lot of name changing going on and we must remember that although it should be, this is not a safe space. We are followed here and that is worth considering (especially if you don't want to be deleted)

I am grateful for all the love and support though and I thank each and every one of you. You are all stronger than you know. I wish I had something profound to say but I don't...: this will have to do!

This is just in case you didn't believe me about the wild turkeys in the garden. 😀

@Humdingerydoo, why doesn't he want to go?

Well that's Thanksgiving sorted!

I think he'd just prefer to spend his annual leave on a beach in Spain or Greece than in a forest in North America 🙃 He's not exactly an outdoorsy guy! And to be fair, I'm not outdoorsy either. I just have aspirations to one day be so 😅

YaMuvva · 15/05/2024 00:39

So after I outed myself as Jewish here yesterday, something I’ve never done on MN (and there have been comments on threads implying anti-Israel posters lurk these threads) I’m suddenly being screamed at on a 5 day old thread and being called repulsive for words I didn’t even say.

Maybe I’m being paranoid but I find that very coincidental

Just giving a wave to the lurkers 👋🏻

YaMuvva · 15/05/2024 01:01

Although I’ve only just noticed that members have to have had a minimum 7 day registration to post on here, which is good to know, but the lurkers do concern me when they take their fight elsewhwre.

I kind of wish I’d NC now to post here.

noblegiraffe · 15/05/2024 01:21

That is utterly par for the course.

grrr. All I said was as “great post” in response to a (great) post about virtue signalling on social media and now the poster is demanding my explanation for the other poster’s words 🤯

It’s actually happening over two threads now, on one about Diane Abbot someone won’t answer my question (about why they think Abbott’s sacking after her racist comments ‘means nothing’) until I admit im Jewish. Sadly for them I ain’t that desperate to hear what they have to say.

Maybe im paranoid and it’s all a coincidence.

0palfrootee · 15/05/2024 08:06

@YaMuvva that's awful! I can totally believe it, though. There are a few nasty pieces of work who very quickly got up to speed on how to be antisemitic without crossing the line for a deletion. If you think people are following you around (and demanding you reveal your ethnicity, I mean wtf) you should report them.

There are definitely people watching this board - we've had deletions on here in the past, in friendly chat threads.

quantumbutterfly · 15/05/2024 09:50

lurker here.

A pp coined the phrase 'hamster wheel of performative outrage' for the virtue signalling on here and that's the mental picture I have when I read those posts.

It helps to put them in perspective..a little bit.

I am shocked by how emboldened people are with their hatred at the moment and I feel for anyone who's bearing the brunt of it.

Hope you're recovering well @YaMuvva , enjoyed your allotment thread.

EllaDisenchanted · 15/05/2024 09:58

oh that is so funny! I enjoyed your allotment thread too! I don't really pay attention to usernames and didn't realise that was you 😂

Hélène79 · 15/05/2024 12:45

Oh that was your allotment thread! I hadn't connected the name either but that thread was brilliant.

This to me is the biggest problem with that board. The ones who turn up to literally every thread about antisemitism (or where there's a lot of Jewish posters), to dictate what is and isn't antisemitism and oh how they're so sick of being called antisemitic. These bullies scare me more than those who do the explicit antisemitisms and they're very fucking far from the anti-racists they profess to be. The paper trail is there, but MN aren't interested in the bigger picture of their posting history, only specific posts.

There was someone or possibly a couple of posters who almost weekly were starting anti-American or American bashing threads. I was able to get a couple of them taken down by reporting them and then escalating the report to Justine when MN HQ did nothing.

The poster continued by changing tactics. So rather than "Tell me why you hate Americans," the subject would be "Can anyone explain why Americans are such rubbish cooks?" or "Why can't Americans speak proper English?". The whole point is soliciting posts on Americans being thick, lazy, etc. I was never able to get any of those taken down.

I haven't seen any like this in months, thankfully.

Hélène79 · 15/05/2024 13:32

Yes, I remember that thread, the posters were awful and also completely wrong!

0palfrootee · 15/05/2024 13:39

@Hélène79 Yes, exactly. The recent thread on there about the failed plot against Jewish people in the NW is a case in point. It is now about genocide, apartheid (both terms bandied about as fact), the Nakba, the current situation in Gaza, who the land belongs to...etc. Literally nothing to do with Manchester's Jewish community. The whole implication being, they must have done something to deserve this.

Not to mention those who pop up every flipping time, even ON A THREAD ABOUT A MURDEROUS ANTISEMITIC PLOT to declare how very hurt and offended they are at the mere suggestion that people on the marches might not all be there in good faith.

Humdingerydoo · 15/05/2024 14:05

Holy moly, I also didn't realise you were the allotment lady! I also didn't realise how many threads there were on it! That's this evening's entertainment sorted. Thanks for that!

Humdingerydoo · 15/05/2024 15:46

Ok so I couldn't wait until this evening. I read it all now. Well, only your replies as they were the funny ones. I really hope your recovery goes well and that Babs doesn't cause any further trouble. It's impressive how upbeat you've remained throughout!

You are welcome, I like “allotment lady” 😂 although it’s really not that interesting it’s other posters comments that make it a good thread.

Your replies are equally brilliant though. I remember thinking "good on you" last month when reading your responses to people suggesting you just give up land you had bought for free 😂

Hélène79 · 15/05/2024 16:30

I didn't realise there was multiple threads, I only saw the first one! Just catching up now. This bit has ended me!

"and Penfold said that “just because your name is on a piece of paper it doesn’t give you the right to steal it off it’s rightful owner” 😂

Honestly Helene my DH reiterated this only a few hours after open surgery and I had to tell him to stop because I feared the laughing would burst my stitches 🤣

Humdingerydoo · 15/05/2024 16:46

It's refreshing to see how many people are supportive of someone who has bought land being allowed to keep it and asking others using that land to leave 🤗

Humdingerydoo · 15/05/2024 16:49

(hopefully my previous comment will be taken in jest as intended, despite it being really distasteful 🙈)

The silence for the better part of an hour was deafening, so I'm glad I haven't been fully excommunicated.

Anyway, hope your recovery keeps going well and I'm genuinely looking forward to your updates on the whole plot of land saga! I've bookmarked it and everything!

I saw that thread and read it at the time because we don't have allotments in the US, and I thought it was such a fascinating window into British batshittery social customs. But I never posted on it, and now I can't find it. Can you post the link please?
