Ok I have taken the bait because I think it's important we have somewhere to chat and decompress.

There is an awful lot of name changing going on and we must remember that although it should be, this is not a safe space. We are followed here and that is worth considering (especially if you don't want to be deleted)

I am grateful for all the love and support though and I thank each and every one of you. You are all stronger than you know. I wish I had something profound to say but I don't...: this will have to do!

I'll need your address so I can pop this in the post for you. Everyone on this thread gets one.

It's all part of the initiation process to the board. Thems the rules. And at various points along the way you'll be made to look at actual JC pinups and you're not allowed to look away. Welcome! @YaMuvva

@EllaDisenchanted don't pretend you don't love it.

Hi @YaMuvva welcome 👋Religious observance not required to join the board 😄😜I’ll warn you some of them on here are weirdly obsessed with Jeremy Corbyn and it’s disturbing.

i think most of us have mostly given up on the board.

I think you’re very much not alone in feeling your Jewish indentity strengthening from all the hate.

Because I am pedantic - I mean most of us have given up with CITME board, not the Jewish Mumsnetters board!

0palfrootee · 14/05/2024 10:06

I keep saying I've given up on that board but I'm.very glad I popped in for a sneaky look or I'd have missed @25milesfromhome 's hilarious summary of Eurovision on there 🤣

EllaDisenchanted · 14/05/2024 10:11

@25milesfromhome it was brilliant!

MissConductUS · 14/05/2024 10:23

@YaMuvva, this thread is very inclusive. I'm an American Christian who came on originally to express my support for the Jewish community and denounce the upsurge in antisemitism and felt quite welcome. I've mostly lurked since then, but I still follow and support everyone in my prayers.

Humdingerydoo · 14/05/2024 10:50

Since this thread is all of a sudden active again (yay!) can someone please confirm I'm not going crazy and that there have previously been posts on the other board about how actually "only" half of the people killed on October 7th were civilians? I distinctly remember seeing links to twitter and Instagram with a picture of the victims names and those in yellow were all police or military, and the comments and hashtags were all grotesque. But I'm basically being told I'm lying about it and that no one has ever seen any poster sharing these links and mocking Israel for it. ARGH!

It's hard to prove something that happened at some point 4-7 months ago and when comments and links have since been taken down 🙃

YetAnotherSpartacus · 14/05/2024 11:24

I distinctly remember conversations about how some/many of the young people/women taken as hostages/killed/raped were part of the IDF (they were reserves) and therefore not civilians.

Humdingerydoo · 14/05/2024 17:17

Thanks, but I should have clarified that people are denying that people were mocking Israel for the numbers changing and for there being fewer civilians than originally thought. There were so many links to pictures, memes, gross tweets but they've all either been deleted on MN or the content has been removed by Twitter etc. So I'm being told I'm lying about it as obviously those posters can't remember seeing any of it and I can't prove it 😅 To be honest, I don't really care anymore as I know what I saw. Just good to know if others remember it too so I can confirm I'm not going crazy!

Humdingerydoo · 14/05/2024 17:28

(Also, please don't waste your time looking for any proof! It's really not important, it just made me look a bit unnecessarily stupid, seeing as I know I'm right but can't prove it. But I have a child who often makes me feel stupid so it's nothing I can't handle!)

Hélène79 · 14/05/2024 17:31

I definitely saw them too- possibly one of the 'Documenting' threads

MissConductUS · 14/05/2024 17:46

The only thread in the CME board I've participated in is the one on the university protests, and I only got on that one to try to correct the misinformation about the protests at Columbia and NYU (I'm a New Yorker). There was loads of rubbish about the right to free speech in the US (no, it doesn't allow threats, trespassing, or breaking into buildings) and how public protests are treated under American law.

Of course, I was primarily dismissed or told I didn't know what I was talking about. It's really toxic over there.

Ha, thanks, but there's no chance of me ever reading those threads again. They were awful enough the first time around! I came across one of them this morning while trying to find proof and decided it wasn't worth it after getting through the first page. I'd rather look stupid than relive all that Hamas propaganda ☺️

Very brave of you to even try to educate those who don't want to be educated!

How are things over there now? I hope it's all calmed down.

Slightly off topic, but is spring really amazing where you are?? I've always assumed it is, mostly as spring is probably my favourite season and everything is bigger and better in the US, right?

0palfrootee · 14/05/2024 18:08

Toxic is definitely the word @MissConductUS

Sometimes I want to type YOU'RE ALL DICKHEADS ANYWAY on one of those threads and then run off like a naughty 10 year old but I know I'd get deleted and it would be childish and beneath me probably

It has calmed down. Graduations are mostly done now, and the schools are on summer break.

Spring is lovely here. I no longer work in the city proper, I'm in an area about 50 miles north called the Hudson Highlands. I've never been to the UK, so it's hard for me to comment about how things compare. The US is a very large country. I've always been a bit of an anglophile, and DH lived and worked in London for a year. I'm going to make him take me there on holiday when we retire.

Pretty!!!

I’ve been once to America (New York/New Jersey area) and was amazed at the size and scale of everything. I found the whole trip fascinating. We stayed at a friend in Suffern, and there were deer in her garden one morning!

There are some beautiful places in the UK, but the US has always appealed to me! As a child I always wanted to go to summer camp over there, and even now as an adult I've been researching family summer camps in NY and Vermont 😅 Some dreams just never die. Your whole continent is just so beautifully varied, I love it! I even loved Des Moines when I visited, but that's probably because I went to the state fair which was a big novelty to me, and all the houses there are so much bigger than in the UK.

I suppose the grass is always greener.

MissConductUS · 14/05/2024 18:49

It's odd on MN. So many people here think of the US as a horrible place that they could never bring themselves to visit. I think most of them suffer from "lost empire" syndrome. And many have been here and quite liked it. I don't think Americans and Brits are really all that different. DH loved living in London (except for the food). Of course, he was single and handsome back then, and I'm sure his American accent attracted lots of attention from the women. He refuses to discuss that aspect of his time there. 😂

@EllaDisenchanted, I'm not far from Suffern, just on the other side of the river really. It's a lovely area. I live out in the woods, so we see deer, turtles, turkeys, even coyotes on a regular basis. It's been a great place to raise the kids.

@Humdingerydoo, there's a Victorian resort in my area called Mohonk Mountain Housein my area that would be perfect for what you're seeking, and more comfortable than a summer camp. I also loved Des Moines, although I didn't see the fair. Houses are bigger here because land is much less expensive and easier to build on. I love having a big house in the woods.

Thanks @MissConductUS , that's exactly the kind of thing I've been looking at! I found one in Vermont too. My husband is refusing 😅
