Ok I have taken the bait because I think it's important we have somewhere to chat and decompress.

There is an awful lot of name changing going on and we must remember that although it should be, this is not a safe space. We are followed here and that is worth considering (especially if you don't want to be deleted)

I am grateful for all the love and support though and I thank each and every one of you. You are all stronger than you know. I wish I had something profound to say but I don't...: this will have to do!

@Hélène79 I have just read that thread and see what you mean. Not sure it's worth complaining to Mumsnet. It's the same hardcore.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 15/04/2024 21:46

They seem to have a licence to say what they want.

Hélène79 · 15/04/2024 22:00

It's disgraceful, the lack of awareness is something to behold. Spent the last six months claiming not to have a problem with Jews and it's just the Israeli government honest guv, but now utterly telling on themselves by simping for arguably the most oppressive government in the world, not to mention strongest ally of Assad. Couldn't make it up.

0palfrootee · 15/04/2024 22:02

The Iran fans are quite something. The "what the Russians did in Ukraine wasn't that bad in comparison" was a new hot take I wasn't expecting either. Unbelievable.

25milesfromhome · 18/04/2024 12:45

0palfrootee · 15/04/2024 20:25

Ugh those threads. Just horrible to read. Some of those posters...well, I'm choosing my words carefully but I'm amazed some of them are still posting on MN.

Some posters have made trawling the internet and reposting every single scrap they can find- all day, every day- their full time occupation. By this point, I might be gently questioning myself about why I’d made this topic my entire personality and how disturbing it is that I’m now fangirling the brutally repressive Islamic Republic of Iran regime in the process.

stomachamelon · 18/04/2024 20:10

@25milesfromhome I literally couldn't agree with that more!

PurpleChrayn · 19/04/2024 10:27

I'm back after yet another suspension for my wicked Zio ways.

Seems like not much has changed!

Hope everyone's Pesach prep is going well.

EllaDisenchanted · 19/04/2024 10:56

Welcome back! Your user name is very apropos right now!

Pesach? Is that soon? 🤔😂I have abandoned ship and gone into the office to work (work my own hours), as DH is on Israeli work week, and is off on Fridays. Have kindly requested he turn over, look after the kids, and make Shabbat today. I will let you all know later if he is still speaking to me 😂

Jokes aside, oven is cleaned and burned out, fridge is done, freezer half done, we are doing a picnic shabbat lunch with friends in the park (no crumbs!), and have very very little to cook, and kids have been bribed that they can get something from the ice cream van when it comes for good behaviour.

Humdingerydoo · 20/04/2024 13:13

@EllaDisenchanted what is this "good behaviour" you speak of, and how do I achieve it? Asking for a friend who is currently on holiday yet her kids are still behaving like absolute monsters despite having unlimited access to snacks and ice cream

Edited

You achieve it by lowering your standards to the absolute bottom and then lowering them some more … 😂
Don’t ask me ask DH, apparently they were amazingly well behaved all day, which is something I’ve never achieved 😂

In case it's of interest there's a couple of threads just now on Chat and FWR about Gideon Falter's incident with the police that are balanced, respectful and supportive (for the most part) with very minimal Jew-bashing. It's been such a relief to see a lot of the comments on them to be honest, and such a restorative to the nastiness and antisemitism on the middle east board.

25milesfromhome · 20/04/2024 19:26

Those threads have restored my faith in human nature just a little bit. It really throws the antisemitism infecting the Conflict board into stark relief when you encounter a thread with a different set of posters from the prolifically hateful usuals.

Thanks @Hélène79 it’s very reassuring, just been reading it

💯The Conflict board is a very unhealthy environment.

Comedycook · 20/04/2024 20:21

The CITME board is an utter cesspit. I really must stop going on there.

0palfrootee · 21/04/2024 09:00

Totally agree and yes that thread in chat is refreshing and does honestly make me feel less pessimistic about the UK. Tbh it's not that I feel the need for an echo chamber, and that thread does contain a range of views and classic MN style sniping which we all know and presumably don't mind too much as were all still here.

But the constant demonisation of Israelis, the hectoring demands for evidence whenever you say anything, the "I don't have a problem with Jews, just Zionists" yeah right, the casual sharing of pages of dodgy misinformation from Instagram or wherever, the accusations of being supporters of genocide/ apartheid/ you name it...all of that is what makes the CITME boards such a toxic place. In fact it's striking that many of the regular names on CITME don't bother commenting much on threads on related topics elsewhere on MN - presumably because they know they'd get short shrift.

Interesting that he had no problem with a certain person being removed by police from joining the march/being in the area, during the march against anti-Semitism last year because their presence "was unwelcome" ...oh the irony.

Hélène79 · 21/04/2024 11:34

@cholent99 Sorry I have absolutely no idea who you're referring to?

Nevertheless, I'm going to take stab at guessing you're accusing Falter of being a hypocrite because he didn't have a problem with the removal of Tommy Robinson - the far right, antisemitic (yes he is), Islamophobe and founder of the EDL hate group and previous member of the BNP, a fascist and violent thug who's been jailed how many times now? So it was quite right he was removed from a march against antisemitism, and I think most Jews would 100% agree with me. And if we have Tommy Robinson apologists on this thread now then that's me out.

If you're not referring to Tommy Robinson and I've got your post wrong, then I apologise.

0palfrootee · 24/04/2024 21:24

Evening all. So Jonathan Freedland and Yonit Levi are my walking to work buddies at the moment on their Unholy podcast. I found the most recent one really thought provoking and an absolute masterclass in bridge building and optimism (we all need a bit of the latter, surely). Their guests were Fania Oz Salzburger and Ahmed Fouad Alkhatib and they were just brilliant- so insightful and tolerant. Also each very critical in many ways of their "own side" to put it very clumsily. AFA has suffered immensely, having lost unthinkable numbers of relatives in this most recent conflict. Highly recommend- tbh I'd like to recommend it on the main CITME board but who's got the energy for that, eh.

PurpleChrayn · 28/04/2024 13:42

I adore Jonathan Freedland! DH and I used to go to the same shul as him before we got married and moved up north. I was always too shy to speak to him during kiddush!

His "The Escape Artist" is one of the most exciting and saddening books I've ever read.

0palfrootee · 28/04/2024 14:20

Yes the Escape Artist is a brilliant book. He's a really great writer. I've mostly abandoned the Guardian but still like his articles.

Hi everyone 👋🏻 a lovely MNer who shall rename nameless alerted me to this thread after a thread in AIBU went pretty anti-Semitic and nasty pretty quickly. Can I join in?

Full disclosure: I am not religious. I am from a secular Jewish Family who did the fun bits of Judaism and broke most of the rules. having married an (also non religious) Catholic Scot we limit the number of ways we observe my heritage, though I am getting better at it as I have 2 children who are semi-cuirious about it all. It’s awful to say but my biggest way I identify with Jewish heritage right now is the rise of Jewish hate

Hi @YaMuvva welcome 👋Religious observance not required to join the board 😄😜I’ll warn you some of them on here are weirdly obsessed with Jeremy Corbyn and it’s disturbing.

i think most of us have mostly given up on the board.

I think you’re very much not alone in feeling your Jewish indentity strengthening from all the hate.
