Ok I have taken the bait because I think it's important we have somewhere to chat and decompress.

There is an awful lot of name changing going on and we must remember that although it should be, this is not a safe space. We are followed here and that is worth considering (especially if you don't want to be deleted)

I said something about how a specific poster was doing our job for us by being so blatant with their anti-Israel sentiment and rape denial. I obviously meant our job as in we don't even need to clarify why what they're saying is outrageous as it is so obvious that it is outrageous, but another poster decided to take my comment literally. Wouldn't even outright say what they were accusing me of but it was pretty obvious I was being accused of being paid by Israel. It is, after all, one of the favoured accusations on here

My own fault really - I should've predicted that kind of a response. I very much left myself open to it but it's still an utterly pathetic accusation to make. Ugh.

How do these people imagine Israel would be paying random Mumsnet members? I just don't get it.

They don't need to actually believe their own accusation, no sane person would in this instance, they just need to sound convincing enough for others who are reading to believe it. It's exactly how terrorist propaganda and conspiracy theories work too - cast just a little bit of doubt and those who want to believe you, will. And there are a lot of people willing to believe absolutely anything negative about anyone pro-Israel.
