Ok I have taken the bait because I think it's important we have somewhere to chat and decompress.

There is an awful lot of name changing going on and we must remember that although it should be, this is not a safe space. We are followed here and that is worth considering (especially if you don't want to be deleted)

I am grateful for all the love and support though and I thank each and every one of you. You are all stronger than you know. I wish I had something profound to say but I don't...: this will have to do!

thank you.

Have any of the British Muslim organisations spoken out against Hamas violence? About ways of rooting out the antisemitism that is baked into certain tenets of Islam? If not, I have zero interest in interfaith work. We're stepping into the lions den by constantly indulging in this misguided attempt at "tikkun olam" that so many of us seem keen on.

No more.

Dayenu.

Completely understand. It's hard to know who to trust.
If you met me irl I'd say 'trust me I have an honest face...but I stole it.'

etmoiandme · 19/02/2024 18:25

Interfaith work is probably one of few ways that both communities can move forward currently, so thank goodness there's many people that do see the merit in it.

stomachamelon · 23/02/2024 22:01

Have just read and heard the footage from the murder of Noya and her grandmother on 7/10. She had autism and was utterly terrified. Her grandmother was 80.

My heart breaks.

quantumbutterfly · 24/02/2024 07:57

My heart breaks and my frustration mounts.

I know the posters who will argue that your compassion is partisan @stomachameleon , I also know that many more people will be reading and forming their own conclusions from the 'discussions' they see. I hope they have peace in their hearts, it's what keeps me answering back.

stomachamelon · 24/02/2024 09:30

@quantumbutterfly they are entitled to think what they like.
But I won't perform like a seal because people tell me too.
And no one knows my back story. The same with anyone else's.
We all have our reasons for being here.

quantumbutterfly · 24/02/2024 09:42

True.
I've probably given more of myself away under this username than I have in the 20 years I've been lurking and posting here.
My attitudes have become much less emotionally reactive and more circumspect, but at heart I'm still an idealist whose idealism has given way to pragmatic compromise.
Living and learning.

I wouldn't post this on the main boards for the obvious reasons. It's an interesting read though.

Humdingerydoo · 25/02/2024 15:10

Was trying to catch up a bit on what I've missed this past week but it all seems like a massive shit-show, so I've given up.

Hope everyone is ok though, it's hard being told you have to condemn something over and over again, specially when those making the demands refuse to specifically acknowledge Israel's right to exist. It's like having two different conversations at the same time, which is exactly what it feels like when I talk to my primary and nursery aged children.

25milesfromhome · 25/02/2024 17:06

@Humdingerydoo exactly this, I seem to have got myself entangled in a conversation with a “you support genocide” frother and a teenager who’s new to the conversation, has just discovered that anti-Zionist Jewish fringe groups exist and is therefore rehashing discussions that were had months ago. Should probably back away slowly…

stomachamelon · 25/02/2024 17:08

@25milesfromhome that is better being given an exceptionally wide birth. It's prevalent across lots of threads at the mo.

0palfrootee · 25/02/2024 17:09

It's getting worse, I swear. I really need to sit on my hands more / read threads about cats instead.

www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/idf-no-troops-were-operating-in-area-where-6-year-old-gazan-girl-was-killed-earlier-this-month-initial-probe/

Won't be posting this on the boards either due to parroting of 'most moral army ever/ IDF just lie/ genocide supporter'

Never occurs that they may just have it wrong....

25milesfromhome · 25/02/2024 17:21

It’s definitely ramped up recently. I’m wondering if it’s an influx of new posters, the return of some temporarily banned posters or maybe both.

stomachamelon · 25/02/2024 17:22

A heady combination of both...

25milesfromhome · 25/02/2024 17:34

Well they’re all doing a fine job of winding each other up to ever higher levels of grandiosity and rhetoric so I might leave them to it for a bit.

Humdingerydoo · 25/02/2024 20:29

@stomachameleon , well done on your most appropriate use of adequate quotation marks for the new thread.

Humdingerydoo · 27/02/2024 07:13

Oh great, they're back to rape denial. I thought that was done and dusted but obviously not.

0palfrootee · 27/02/2024 10:19

See also...Israel isn't a democracy. I don't really understand the point of this lie argument. It's so bizarre - up there with Israel running a full scale system of apartheid. I believe there is plenty to criticise where Israel is concerned (plenty to criticise where the UK is concerned too, for that matter!) but why make stuff up? I suppose it all adds to the sense that Israel isn't a "real" country.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 27/02/2024 10:31

When some of these people have no skin in the game (and I suspect many don't) their level of obsession and paranoia gives me pause to think about their personal grip on reality.

Yes, that's just it. It's their attempt at completely delegitimising Israel. It's them saying "Israel has no right to exist" without being brave enough to say it. It's utterly pathetic, and is very much how Hamas run their propaganda machine too.

stomachamelon · 27/02/2024 12:20

@YetAnotherSpartacus I wholeheartedly agree.

0palfrootee · 27/02/2024 12:54

There is a thread in the Black MNers board at the moment which I spotted because it appeared in Active. People on there were asking why MN can't do what they've done here and make that board not appear in AC, which would seem like a sensible thing to do as they also attract a lot of stirrers. I noticed MN have replied to them to say that the Jewish MN board will shortly be moved back to active! I think this would be a terrible idea. @MNHQ please reconsider (and also consider posters' requests to move the Black MN board). If only to save yourselves the hassle of all the extra moderation.

stomachamelon · 27/02/2024 15:12

That is a terrible idea. Will email.
