Ok I have taken the bait because I think it's important we have somewhere to chat and decompress.

There is an awful lot of name changing going on and we must remember that although it should be, this is not a safe space. We are followed here and that is worth considering (especially if you don't want to be deleted)

I am grateful for all the love and support though and I thank each and every one of you. You are all stronger than you know. I wish I had something profound to say but I don't...: this will have to do!

Does anyone else feel like they've been reading a different ICJ judgement from everyone on the other board? They are declaring it a win for Palestinians when really, all it's saying is "take care to protect civilians" which is something Israel says it does anyway? That combined with no call for a ceasefire, which is what they all claim they want, yet posters have somehow twisted it into a win for Palestinians and a serious indictment against Israel 🙈 It is a bit like watching propaganda happening in real time.

Or is the big deal that it wasn't completely thrown out? I'm genuinely confused, so please feel free to dumb it down for me!

untitledmum · 26/01/2024 14:01

I was thinking exactly this. What have we missed?

untitledmum · 26/01/2024 14:04

I gathered that the outcome is that Israel must show more evidence of protecting civilians and that Hamas must release hostages.
I think that's a reasonable win for Israel. The fact that no cease-fire was demanded is huge.

Yes, I don't think anything unreasonable or controversial was requested of Israel at all. I honestly feel like I must be missing something major. I guess this is what gaslighting must feel like 😅

0palfrootee · 26/01/2024 15:13

I noticed someone was saying they'd be interested to hear "pro-Israel posters" comments on the ruling...they've chased everyone away! Funnily enough when you call people genocidal and twist everything they say, you'll find that they don't especially feel like chatting to you.

Humdingerydoo · 27/01/2024 11:38

So when are we all packing our bags and moving to America? Apparently the indigenous, and even non-indigenous but people who currently live there, won't mind if we take some of the land and make it Israel. What part do you fancy? I was thinking Florida but I don't really like hurricanes. Maybe somewhere like Boston? I know it's cold there in winter but it's a beautiful city! Or maybe we could go for somewhere like Mexico? I've never been but the beaches there look beautiful. Let me know what you think and I'll let Netanyahu know what we've agreed.

MissConductUS · 27/01/2024 12:01

Boston is lovely. My son went to uni there and I have family in the area. It's also quite an expensive place to live. If you're shopping for a place to make a new Israel, this might help.

I am seriously having to sit on my hands at some of the misinformation and ever-surprising new lows over there, but I've absolutely had it with that board.

And yes, if only they'd thought to put all the Jews in the US after the war 🤯 I mean wtf did I read there?!?!?

My DH has family in Boston so I've been a few times and I'm a bit meh about it. Mexico - yes please!

Ah it's OK, I actually have my own hotline to Netanyahu so I'll put my request in directly! (sadly the lurkers will think I'm serious).

etmoiandme · 27/01/2024 12:43

@0palfrootee Yup, and it's so fucking obvious that they're reigning it in so they don't get a ban. And the encouragement they're getting too, well.

Humdingerydoo · 27/01/2024 12:48

@etmoiandme having looked at the link @MissConductUS helpfully provided, how would you feel about Boulder? I mean, I'm happy to settle on Mexico (literally as well as figuratively) but Boulder is meant to be gorgeous!

etmoiandme · 27/01/2024 12:51

@Humdingerydoo @MissConductUS That's the one that stood out to me too - I've always fancied Colorado!

MissConductUS · 27/01/2024 13:24

I've visited Denver, Colorado, but not Boulder. The state is lovely and the people are very nice, so I'd say it's a winner.

DownNative · 27/01/2024 13:34

Hi all! I've been taking a break from here to focus more on real life stuff and will be again after this post.

One thing is for sure, there won't be any resolution to the endless debates in the CITME section. It seems to me most of them are only interested in flinging as much mud at Israel as possible rather than trying to understand law, terrorism, security and counter-terrorism.

After all the arse kissing of Biden on Mumsnet a while ago, have some of them turned on him with "Genocide Joe!" And "No shamrocks for Genocide Joe!" rhetoric?! 🤔🙈

It's a shame the nice people will have to leave to make space for Israel though 😔 Oh well, needs must!

Palestinians say the ICJ "let them down", so a few people like to speak out of both sides of their mouths.

Desperate stuff! 🙈

0palfrootee · 27/01/2024 14:11

Ha - yes there has been an abrupt about-turn on there, I noticed! Well, best to leave them to it IMHO.

MooseBreath · 27/01/2024 17:26

Yes, the thought that we could all just up sticks and bugger off to the USA was amusing. The USA is very well known for just handing over chunks of land to non-Christian foreigners, after all...

Also, I'm WibbleWobbleFlop. Can't be bothered remembering to name-change anymore.

I can see the technology hedge funds and defense contractors buying a few thousand square miles of Colorado and giving you a 99-year lease on it in return for an interest in Israel's tech and defense firms.

Where there's a will, there's a way. And land is pretty cheap in Colorado. 😁

The non-Christian bit isn't relevant, thanks to this:

I love how well you've thought this all through 😂

I was pleasantly surprised to see MN take it seriously when posts were reported on that thread 🙌🏻

YetAnotherSpartacus · 27/01/2024 22:56

I gather that outback Australia, Uganda and South America were all floated as potential solutions to 'the Jewish Problem' following WW2 ... because in none of those places would Indigenous peoples have been displaced and there is so much connection to Jewish history and identity in all of them.

I love how the UN connection with terrorism is being almost totally disregarded on the CITME board.

0palfrootee · 28/01/2024 10:45

I am sticking to my word and no longer posting on the ME board, but I just wanted to say @etmoiandme thanks for sharing the tweet by Rachel Riley. I hadn't seen it (and I follow her on X!)

With regards to your last sentence, there is a new thread about which I think was imported from AIBU... only read it if you're willing to be told that Jews and Israelis are all white, or honourary white. It's all sorts of a shit show 😂

Yes the casual "yeah but only like 7 people were actual terrorists" is mind boggling.
