Ok I have taken the bait because I think it's important we have somewhere to chat and decompress.

There is an awful lot of name changing going on and we must remember that although it should be, this is not a safe space. We are followed here and that is worth considering (especially if you don't want to be deleted)

I am grateful for all the love and support though and I thank each and every one of you. You are all stronger than you know. I wish I had something profound to say but I don't...: this will have to do!

@0palfrootee what do you mean by "As a half-on-the-wrong-side Jewish person"? I hope that's not something someone on here has made you feel?

etmoiandme · 28/01/2024 12:34

@0palfrootee Thanks Opal. I've got my own issues with Riley but the antisemitism and misogyny she's had to deal with over the last few years would have broken a lot of women, so I do have a huge amount of respect for her. And every word she said in that tweet was 100% bang on.

I've seen some slightly hysterical 'it's time to pack the suitcases' comments on X by a few high profile (or loud) right-wing Jewish folk who I honestly believe caused us harm during the Corbyn years, and continue to. Some of their more inflammatory rhetoric has been a massive gift to the far left. But I do think we're getting into pretty shaky territory now unless there's a sea-change in attitudes soon and it's really, really worrying.

I'm stepping away from that board now too, I can't even muster so much as a half-hearted response to them now let alone a full one. It's full of frothing antisemites however much they try to hide it. It's when then they try to tell you what Zionism and antisemitism is actually that really triggers me and I stupidly end up wading in. The 'Jews are white actually' reared its head again this morning - it's like they waited for Holocaust Memorial weekend to ramp up the baiting. I go between genuinely laughing out loud at some of their more nonsensical comments to being utterly depressed. What they fail to see though is that many of us are not in support of Israel's response, or at least have a measured view of it all and truly do not want more Palestinians to die. But I'll be fucked if I'm going to nod my head in agreement with some of these outright rape-apologists and Jew-haters who present themselves as "anti-racists". Their obsession with Israel and Jews is unreal, and with the exception of a few posters is absolutely not out of genuine concern with Gazans. The sheer number of threads started since October about the world's only Jewish state has been eye-opening when so little attention has been paid to atrocities elsewhere, including an actual current genocide in China. I might be wrong, but I don't think I've ever seen a thread about that on Mumsnet.

Hello all. What did I miss? ;)

@stomachameleon Nice to see you back!

MooseBreath · 28/01/2024 12:51

What bothers me on the CITME board as well as social media off of Mumsnet is that anyone who has a "central" opinion is entirely disregarded. Unless you solely support Palestine or solely support Israel, are your views deemed worth discussing. And those in the middle who want peace for both groups of people are essentially told that they are kidding themselves and obviously don't care about innocent lives.

It's also very difficult to discuss any kind of implications of the Israel-Palestine conflict worldwide, or thinking about the aftermath. Apparently thinking beyond a singular issue is supporting genocide.

Hello all. What did I miss? ;)

Welcome back!

And absolutely nothing. Just more of the same, really! Apparently Israel lost the ICJ ruling, all Jews are white and hate brown people and we all support everything Netanyahu says and does. Oh and 12 UNRWA workers being confirmed as terrorists isn't a big deal and is just more Israeli propaganda. Same old, same old.

Have you seen that the "antiracist" education consultant/headteacher on twitter who I previously raised on here for reposting a post that glorified Hamas terrorists as being 'full of compassion'?

She's been at it again, this time saying that the media is controlled by the Jews.

She has been told that's wrong, with evidence, and that the links she posted were by nazi sympathisers, and also been told it's a well-known antisemitic trope. Her post is still up and she is blocking all dissent. The dissent is, of course, a misogynistic attack on a woman of colour.

She has "antiracist" in her twitter handle.

Definitely not something that anyone here has said to me, but thank you for asking! ❤️

And in 'good Jew/bad Jew' land, Chomsky and Pappé have been replaced with Hajo Meyer.

etmoiandme · 28/01/2024 13:12

@noblegiraffe I saw a few of these teachers earlier in the week if it's the same thing - they were banding about a very definitive 96% of the media is Jewish controlled? 😂

EllaDisenchanted · 28/01/2024 13:13

@etmoiandme well we are not doing a very good job of it clearly...

noblegiraffe · 28/01/2024 13:13

I've read that she offers training in antiracism.

How the fuck can she not know that "Jews control the media" is racist?

stomachameleon · 28/01/2024 13:47

@Humdingerydoo after a quick flick through I can see that the anti has very much been upped. Don't mind a bit of healthy discussion but still.....

Because she's swallowed the antisemitic propaganda and thinks she's making a statement of fact.

0palfrootee · 28/01/2024 14:38

Does anyone know what this is about?

We apologise unreservedly for offence that’s been caused. We’ve reflected and accept that our twitter post linking to our Holocaust Memorial Day article should have focussed on the 6 million Jews and other people who lost their lives in the holocaust

It's from Brighton and Hove City Council on twitter.

Remembering the fragility of freedom this Holocaust Memorial Day

Saturday 27 January is Holocaust Memorial Day, the international day dedicated to victims of genocide.

etmoiandme · 28/01/2024 14:48

I think they completely erased Jews from the original message although I didn't see it. Brighton's been a breeding ground for antisemites in recent times, especially among the hard left, so not surprised this might spill into the Council's social media team to be honest

0palfrootee · 28/01/2024 16:41

Thanks, I thought it would probably be something like that. Pisses me off as a Labour voter tbh, especially as AS seems to come with a large dose of self-righteousness from the left. At least KS seems to have a handle on it in the parliamentary party (with notable exceptions but at least they're nowhere near the front bench) if not some of the crazier elements of local councils.

EllaDisenchanted · 28/01/2024 17:17

Not specific to mumsnet but I didn’t want to start a new thread. I watched a painfully moving clip of an elderly gentleman who found his family’s names in auschwitz. The first comment ‘exactly what they are doing to the Palestinians’ has 54k likes. How can fifty four thousand people watch that man cry over his family and think yes this is an appropriate place to write that?

I can’t get it out of my head. Where is the humanity ? Where is the respect for another person’s grief? I can’t understand it😔

That's terrible. This kind of thing actually frightens me, unlike the handful of loudmouths on MN.

etmoiandme · 28/01/2024 17:31

@0palfrootee Yes we're Labour voters too but if it's any consolation the antisemitic elements of the left hate KS so I think most are sniffing around other parties now like the Greens. Although like you say, I think a few are still quite embedded in local councils. I noticed yesterday that cranky Jew-baiter Chris Williamson is campaigning for Galloway in Rochdale. They seem keen to tackle the local issues that really matter to voters... https://twitter.com/DerbyChrisW/status/1751328506628251761

@EllaDisenchanted It's really upsetting isn't it? The comments are appalling

EllaDisenchanted · 28/01/2024 17:38

It’s the sheer numbers who liked it that I found the most upsetting.

0palfrootee · 28/01/2024 17:41

Oh God I'd forgotten about Chris W. All these momentum types have a habit of popping up again, don't they. Interestingly I saw Jon Lansmann getting an absolute twitter pile on from his usual supporters not long after 7th Oct when he posted something criticising the behaviour of some of the marchers - he was saying that chanting from.the river to the sea wasn't acceptable, suddenly going from "good" to "bad Jew" in a single tweet in their eyes.

Agree re the drift to other parties - the SNP is not good on this.from.what I'm seeing. I'm English but have some SNP voting Scottish relatives (not Jewish) and have been so disappointed by some of their SM posts since Oct. I'm very glad it hasn't come up in conversation when I've seen them recently, would have been very uncomfortable.
