Mumsnet is getting worse

Seriously. Is it the same few people just name changing or is it really this toxic in the UK? There is so much poisonous Jewish hatred on here. I'm not talking hatred of Israel, just vile antisemitism on so many posts now.

I truly think I have to step away before I lose faith in humanity. Why does MN seem to attract so many hateful posters? Maybe it's the anonymity.

I can't keep calling it out. Im exhausted and actually deeply disturbed by it now.

just remember a lot of them are gaslighters with no interest in dealing with facts and it's all 'my side is right yours is wrong'. Oh, and some of them really don't like Jews.

The goodies v baddies narrative is so strong for some of them that when anyone says anything reasonable from the other side it must be dismissed in some way, or counted with a 'yes but genocide'. If anyone from 'their side' looks like they're unreasonable, it must be either dismissed, or explained away as a misunderstanding ('oh they don't really want to see Israel wiped off a map').

I wonder what they think of the Houthis and their Hitler salutes and their calls to kill all the Jews.

25milesfromhome · 28/12/2023 00:42

That Houthi Hitler salute video was absolutely chilling, the one where they’re kind of riverdancing all over the Israeli flag not so much.

PurpleChrayne · 28/12/2023 09:23

This is probably highly inappropriate but I laughed until I cried watching that Houthi riverdancing video.

SomeCatFromJapan · 28/12/2023 09:36

Me too. What do they think they look like 😂

gingergran · 28/12/2023 10:39

My view of the conflict is coloured by my personal experience. My friend who lived on kibbutz be’eri sadly died about eight months ago and although it may sound strange I am glad she was not alive on October 7th.

Her husband was murdered. Her sister who looked after her grandchildren because their mother is severely disabled was murdered. Her 12 year old grandson was murdered. Their house was set alight and it was only after providing DNA that they were able to confirm that her 12 granddaughter was also murdered. They buried her toys because they could not bury her.

They were people who were on the left wing of Israeli politics. Who firmly believed that there could be peace with the Palestinians. They talked of a peaceful and secure border. They employed numerous Palestinians on their kibbutz. And these same Palestinians were the ones who provided information to Hamas so that they knew who lived in which house, who would be not be there at the weekends, where the school and kindergarten were, where the children would be.

There is nothing that can ever justify such cold blooded murder and betrayal

I deliberately haven’t posted until now about this but the vitriol and ignorance on the other threads fills me with dispair

PurpleChrayne · 28/12/2023 10:52

Ginger, I know this family too. The twins' father is a friend of ours. Absolutely tragic.

Pizdietz · 28/12/2023 10:53

I'm so sorry, I can't imagine the pain of being personally involved in events that have traumatised me from a very safe distance. Flowers

I've seen many accounts of this personal betrayal by people that liberal Israelis were trying to help.

SomeCatFromJapan · 28/12/2023 10:54

@gingergran I am so, so very sorry. It does not sound strange at all that you are glad she was spared that unimaginable horror and heartache.

0palfruity · 28/12/2023 11:36

@gingergran I'm so sorry for the loss of your friends. It sounds trite but as the mother of a 12 year old girl this is doubly terrible for me to read.

I wasn't aware of these stories of personal betrayal until recently, having read similar things elsewhere online. I think this nuance is what is missing from the wider debates as it goes a long way to show how difficult a lasting peace will be. The "Israel is evil" narrative lacks an understanding of the sheer level of mistrust and betrayal that must inevitably be felt by Israelis towards Palestine now.

stomachamaleon · 28/12/2023 11:41

@gingergran I wish those who spin nastiness and hate towards those who suffered on 7/10 and excuse what Hamas do as 'resistance' could be made to read your post.
The betrayal of those poor people.
Hugs x

I'm so so sorry. For you, your friend, for everyone.

Absolutely heartbreaking and the way these events have been swept over by certain people is fucking abhorrent.

Pizdietz · 28/12/2023 11:55

Currently struggling with this on the "Teaching Hatred" thread.

Needless to say, calls for the thread to be deleted as apparently it dehumanises Palestinians. If it is deleted, I will know for certain that MN is biased and not just struggling to cope!

I know. My questioning of Hamas' casualty figures - the only one in the war zone - means that I apparently don't care about Palestinian lives 🤷🏻‍♀️.

You just can't reason with people that are brainwashed.

gingergran · 28/12/2023 12:08

I’ve reposted on the teaching hatred group. I’ll be interested to see the response

etmoiandme · 28/12/2023 12:20

The Jew-baiters are having a busy morning on some of the other threads, so for the sake of sanity I'm not even going to look at the teaching hatred one.

EllaDisenchanted · 28/12/2023 14:20

@gingergran I'm so so sorry, that is utterly heartbreaking יהי זכרם ברוך 🫂💔 I recognise the family from reading about them, I cannot imagine what you must be going through

stomachamaleon · 28/12/2023 14:55

Sending love to all...

etmoiandme · 28/12/2023 15:02

@stomachamaleon I've not heard of feminists against antisemitism - do they have a website/social media page?

stomachamaleon · 28/12/2023 15:26

It's on Instagram :)

etmoiandme · 28/12/2023 15:36

@Stomacharmeleon Merci!

PurpleChrayne · 28/12/2023 18:47

My personal highlight of today oh here has been someone suggesting that Palestinians using their children as human shields is akin to pushy stage parents.
