Mumsnet is getting worse

Seriously. Is it the same few people just name changing or is it really this toxic in the UK? There is so much poisonous Jewish hatred on here. I'm not talking hatred of Israel, just vile antisemitism on so many posts now.

I truly think I have to step away before I lose faith in humanity. Why does MN seem to attract so many hateful posters? Maybe it's the anonymity.

I can't keep calling it out. Im exhausted and actually deeply disturbed by it now.

I thought this was quite sweet.

For those of you who are starting to embrace your Jewish roots a bit more, I hope you get something out of it. It really is so much more than just a religion.

And for those of you that aren't particularly interested in anything to do with your Jewish roots - that's ok too! My grandmother was the only one from her family to survive the Holocaust. She kept "kosher-style" after she had kids (no pork, seafood etc) except for on Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year and a day of fast, where she would go with her fellow Holocaust survivor friend and order a pizza with ham on 😅 That became their little tradition. Religion isn't for everyone and that is ok. As I said earlier, I'm not exactly religious myself - although I do send my kids to a Jewish school because it was important to my husband, and we did have a Jewish wedding. We're traditional rather than religious though. It's enough for us!

Wonder if Charlotte Church is one of the more prolific Mumsnet posters on the Middle East threads - "I understand ALL of the complexities" 🤔

She went all Kanye and tried to start her own school. Tree hugging for kids or something apparently. Not kidding!

Child stars very rarely make adults that can think and function normally. Never let your child join a talent agency or go on Britain's got talent etc

stomachameleon · 10/12/2023 22:22

@etmoiandme @Humdingerydoo wasn't sure who posted that..

But since 7th October I've felt the need to defend Israel's right to exist.

I am lax (in lots of ways) and have been pretty poorly with cancer. I only go out to teach and walk the dog. I surprised everyone the day of the March in London (and myself) and went up on the train (am on the coast) by myself.

It just felt that it something I had to do and coming on here is too.

Humdingerydoo · 10/12/2023 22:26

@stomachameleon I'm sorry to hear of your health issues. Sending lots of love and strength your way!

etmoiandme · 10/12/2023 22:27

@stomachameleon Sorry to hear about your health, and sending strength to you. I also applaud your persistence on so many of the threads! x

EllaDisenchanted · 10/12/2023 22:29

@stomachameleon wishing you a speedy and full recovery 🫂

Pizdietz · 10/12/2023 22:39

@Stomacharmeleon I am so sorry to hear that you are ill.

I hope 2024 is a better year for you Flowers and in the meantime, enjoy those coastal walks with the dog 💗

I think about what happened to those people on 7 Oct and just feel lucky to be alive, from one moment to the next, here and now. But I am glad not to be facing life-threatening illness. Despite this, the shit going around now is so depressing.

I hope you are on the mend and wish you a happy and healthy 2024 (and many years to come).

Thanks everyone xx really appreciate it!

Humdingerydoo · 11/12/2023 14:15

Anyone else enjoying this new version of "I don't support Hamas, but..."? It seems to go something along the lines of "as they are oppressed, they have a right, nay, a moral obligation, to attack their oppressors! I'm not saying the alleged attack by alleged terrorists allegedly on 7th of October was necessarily the right way to allegedly go about it though, but...". Not just on MN, other parts of the internet too.

Trulywonderful · 11/12/2023 15:13

Someone quote a Iran ambassador's words to me last night. Word for word, I could not even be bothered to pull them up on it and tell them I knew it wasn't their own words etc

stomachameleon · 11/12/2023 16:59

@Humdingerydoo there is always a new slant.

@Trulywonderful I am finding ironic the accusations of 'bullying' whilst very much trying to do that to you.

Beyond ironic - I mean, I had to change my username after getting followed about threads by a poster, including onto here, just to shake them off.

I can't work out if it's getting worse or not on there - I think it is, the sheer hostility and dismissal of our fears, the accusations and repeatedly putting words into our mouths, has definitely ramped up. But I'm actually finding it a lot more amusing now after the initial shock of finding out how just much we're hated. Some of the arguments are nonsensical and I'm finding it easier to just let them go over my head now, albeit with a massive eye roll. Although having said that, these views are having real life consequences and if that's what's being said within the bounds of MN guidelines oh boy can you imagine what's said IRL.

PurpleChrayne · 11/12/2023 17:39

I love when non-Jews who have never even met a Jewish person say that there is no rise in Anti-Semitism, just hysteria.

stomachameleon · 11/12/2023 17:41

@etmoiandme but I know loads of Jews and I speak for them...... ;) jaw dropping

etmoiandme · 11/12/2023 17:47

@stomachameleon Well with us being so Machiavellian, it naturally follows that we can hardly be trusted to speak for ourselves.

cauliflowerwaterfall · 11/12/2023 18:41

It’s rough out there. It’s like it’s a competition to see what the maddest accusation they can make about Israel is.

etmoiandme · 11/12/2023 18:47

@cauliflowerwaterfall Ah you've joined us, welcome! Yes, the last 2 months on MN have been....interesting.

@PurpleChrayne I did see a poster direct the "hysteria" word to a Jewish (I think) woman yesterday and how sick she was of it (us?), but it got quite quickly deleted. And like you say, probably never met anyone Jewish!

"I can't work out if it's getting worse or not on there - I think it is, the sheer hostility and dismissal of our fears, the accusations and repeatedly putting words into our mouths, has definitely ramped up."

It is definitely getting worse. It's now apparently accepted that it is, in fact, genocide. There's now no doubt in their minds that it is. It's the one word they don't put "alleged" in front of. They've said it enough times that it's now considered fact.

The language has changed, as it always does. As a result, they're feeling braver. They feel they can get away with more outrageous statements than before. And it fucking well works - they do get away with outrageous statements because there are only so many of us and it often feels pointless even pointing out to them how ridiculously outrageous they're being. They no longer worry about even trying to back up their claims, they just make statements and then double down without any actual evidence for anything. Because they don't need evidence - their voices are loud enough even without it. It's painful to watch it happen, but can't say I'm even remotely surprised. It's the same every single time.

Humdingerydoo · 11/12/2023 18:59

Sorry, it's been a really long day 🙈 I'll stop ranting now

stomachameleon · 11/12/2023 19:37
