Seriously. Is it the same few people just name changing or is it really this toxic in the UK? There is so much poisonous Jewish hatred on here. I'm not talking hatred of Israel, just vile antisemitism on so many posts now.

I truly think I have to step away before I lose faith in humanity. Why does MN seem to attract so many hateful posters? Maybe it's the anonymity.

I can't keep calling it out. Im exhausted and actually deeply disturbed by it now.

The headteacher has #Antiracist in her twitter handle. You literally couldn't make it up.

No I haven't seen that. Hopefully her LEA and the education department will investigate it.

From the days I was on twitter I learnt that those with Anti-racist in their profile or handle were normally anything but that

I mean most people who are anti racism just are we don't need to announce it. Plus one of the most well known people in the UK that some people call a Anti-racist is Jeremy Corbyn and we all know that is iffy to say the least.

Most the people using Anti-racist on twitter in the UK are Jez fan club or at least that was what it was like a few years ago. You would see that and know exactly what you were dealing with. Bunch of people that are select about what bit of the holocaust they believe and that like to tell Jewish people what to think and feel about antisemitism.

Yes there is the Tutu school of thought about Jews by many in Africa but not everyone. Therefore I think we can't assume that unless evidence to show it is likely.

I just almost daren't open MN. I used to think the moderation was trying to be fair, but now I'm not so sure. I tell myself maybe if you're not really interested, it would be hard to work out what's fair when random individuals report posts, especially when they are so aggressive and use the buzzwords (I am often at a loss to know how to describe what's wrong with a post; it's like explaing why you shouldn't date Jeffrey Dahmer). And let's face it, none of us can pretend to be an expert in Middle Eastern politics (does ANYONE understand it, even Hamas/IDF?!). I just find myself feeling bewildered and depressed. Maybe one day these records will be pored over by kids at school in much the same way as I once learned about Goebbels and Mosley. Who knows, time will tell.

I've dealt with this for as long as I've been on MN (about six years) in the context of anti-Americanism. While it's not as heated as the current discussions about the war between Israel and Hamas, it's always been seen as acceptable to rubbish Americans and American culture here. There's a thread going on now about how Americans are all lazy cooks. I've heard it about our awful education system, terrible healthcare, dire food, etc. And we're all a bit thick and unsophisticated, as well.

When I've reported these posts the view of the moderators has been that this is not hate speech, it's purely factual, and if I have evidence to the contrary, I should provide it. Of course if these were threads about the drunken Irish, arrogant Germans or snooty English, they'd all be taken down immediately.

It's all down to what conforms to the stereotypes the moderators already hold as true.

That's a bit depressing, @MissConductUS , and I'm sorry you have felt so sidelined over the years.

I've always assumed that those moderating MN are people I could sit and enjoy a quiet cuppa with. Now, I'm not so sure.

I've always been a naive person.

During covid we had a hidden teacher thread that was removed from Active because people were being so fucking awful about teachers. We'd hide and chat there and had the same issue of people reading the thread and reporting posts. Basically you can't say anything about anyone, even subtly or it'll get deleted.
