Seriously. Is it the same few people just name changing or is it really this toxic in the UK? There is so much poisonous Jewish hatred on here. I'm not talking hatred of Israel, just vile antisemitism on so many posts now.

I truly think I have to step away before I lose faith in humanity. Why does MN seem to attract so many hateful posters? Maybe it's the anonymity.

I can't keep calling it out. Im exhausted and actually deeply disturbed by it now.

@Trulywonderful 😂😂😂 glad you guys made up and joined forces now instead!

noblegiraffe · 30/11/2023 21:40

Do you know what the most interesting bit about that whole shitshow was? The absolute insistence by a large cohort of idiots that I wanted schools closed? Despite me saying infinite times that they were wrong, they kept still saying I did?

Like, they had this narrative in their head and they were desperately trying to fit me into it even though it totally went against what I was actually saying.

There are people on the internet who are so sure of their own opinions that they will even insist that they know better than you what you're actually thinking.

Bizarre times.

This is how I know you get what we are feeling sometimes

Posters trying to fit Jewish people and their feelings about the conflict into a narrative they themselves believe.

Posters trying to put words into our mouths we haven't said and never would think.

I know you get it because I saw how people were with you

I may have disagreed with you on some stuff. However I respected your opinions and informed posts. Others didn't and tried to bring you down to their level.

Yes I can see this. I mean, I only wandered over here to challenge some antisemitism and wonder why people were ignoring what Hamas did and immediately it was 'oh so you're pro-genocide then?' Like that's an entirely normal thing to assume of someone.

And now it's split into you're either Pro-Palestine or Pro-Israel. I mean, I've not seen any love for Netanyahu and a lot of criticism of Israel's actions but Pro-Israel you must be. They're also probably shoe-horning me into a 'pro-Israel' camp even though my every other post is peppered with 'what they're doing is abhorrent'. Because there's no room for nuance, sides must be taken.

And it's not really Pro-Palestine or Pro-Israel, it's goodies and baddies. There's no slack being given, no benefit of doubt, only the worst possible readings into things.

It's pretty grim.

If anyone here has been on the FWR board in the last few years they will have experienced their posts being zapped and their posts being reported within seconds. It's very unsettling

What is the FWR board?

Bunshaped · 01/12/2023 10:08

FWR = Feminism and Women's Rights

There are two sections to that board. It was split because one particular topic kept dominating the original FWR board.

In the sex+gender section, posters were prevented from properly discussing a certain topic with posts being continually reported and deleted - this went on for several years until Maya Forstater's court case.

There was (and still is) a concerted effort by trolls and derailers to prevent discussion of the topic.

The level of debate is generally high on that board. Most posters are clued up and usually argue their points well. Everyone is welcome provided they can substantiate their claims, whichever "side" they are on, and be able to defend their perspective without simply flinging out emotional rehetoric.

Edited

I agree, they have had some very good discussions on that board. Plus they can kick butt at derailing because they are used to it on there.

Hamas again tonight described as a 'resistance' group and Mumsnet not keen to delete as ' we encourage political discourse'

I mean...

Trulywonderful · 01/12/2023 23:04

Resistance group my arse

It is about time that saying that was viewed legally as supporting Hamas. It is what the people that say it mean after all.

You'll have to remind MNHQ of their responsibilities under Terrorism Act as that can be construed as support which is illegal.

Which thread, page and user is it?

I'll report it too.

DownNative · 02/12/2023 07:03

Found it.

It's page 8 of "Pause” ends tomorrow. Anyone else filled with dread?". See attached.

I've reported it and told MN that Terrorism Act 2006 states that "glorification” includes any form of praise or celebration". Calling Hamas a "resistance organisation" comes under that quite easily.

I would lean towards this being a sneaking regarder, personally, as theyre pushing against the official designation of terrorists.🤷‍♂️

Well done. It's pretty depressing that there are so many Hamas sympathisers in the country.

Stomacharmeleon · 02/12/2023 11:37

Just seen and received an email implying I got the first one in error.

noblegiraffe · 02/12/2023 11:45

Good to know that any posts putting a positive spin on Hamas should be deleted. Does that go for ones saying 'don't the hostages look well' too?

Pizdietz · 02/12/2023 11:52

I reported these three posts on Thursday (from p6 of "Documenting the horror that is Hamas"), and MN said they would look into it. I see they're still there, all three of them.

Apparently there's nothing wrong with saying, three times in a row, that Israel is lying about the events of 7 October.

The link is to a journalist describing the "atrocities" movie. Everything he says is duplicated by other reporters elsewhere.

Ironically, the point he is making is that no one believes this is real, despite all the evidence that it is.

I just don't know what to do here.

(Brumbies, I guess a TikTok link is not the greatest, especially without commentary! But still...)

DownNative · 02/12/2023 12:15

In that "Pause” ends tomorrow. Anyone else filled with dread?" thread, the usual suspects have ignored my post on page 10 stating Hamas aren't "resistance" and that Mumsnet has a legal responsibility to remove such posts AND users.

If anyone sees anything glorifying them, report and also let me know too.

Havering Council in East London won't be installing a Hannukah candelabrum.

noblegiraffe · 02/12/2023 13:36

@Trulywonderful you don't have twitter so you won't have seen the developing row about the high-profile headteacher who unapologetically retweeted the most misty-eyed praise of a Hamas terrorist hostage-taker? And now there are people defending her?

The headteacher has #Antiracist in her twitter handle. You literally couldn't make it up.

They did a U turn on this after religious leaders and the public objected ti that decision
