This is not a space for me, but I wanted to post with solidarity.
I am not Jewish, but had two Jewish friends and a Jewish teacher when I was very small, and my parents had Jewish friends.
Yet somehow I grew up not understanding that antisemitism was a thing in the U.K. I read Anne Frank’s diary and then all about the Holocaust without realising that all that hatred still existed.
It wasn’t until I briefly worked with a Jewish student when we were both in our early twenties that I understood her experience. Her stories of her father and uncles having to take turns to stand guard at the cemetery at night to prevent graves from being defiled horrified me and have never left me and taught me that ignorance is dangerous.
Wishing you peace and safety.
