FET March thread

Hi all 👋

I have a failed first transfer (fresh) and have one embryo banked from my first retrieval.

I’ll be doing my first FET with it in March. Anyone else joining me for the wait?

I’m still waiting to find out what went wrong with my fresh transfer. Hopefully next time is the charm!

@Runner77 Thanks, I've not told the nrw employer... keeping it all private until there is something to share

@Shroedy good luck! What was the grade of your embryo? Is this your first one?

JulesIVF · 02/03/2024 10:07

That’s exciting @Shroedy best of luck 🥰. My period is due on Wednesday then can get the ball rolling. So happy it’s finally March - here’s to hopefully getting pregnant 🤞🏻.

Cloclo93 · 02/03/2024 13:32

They managed to collect 7 eggs, 4 was mature but all totally failed to fertilized! Clinic said this was a very strange outcome and suggested icsi if we were try another cycle.. it's just so expensive 😩 something about the zona of my eggs not bonding with the sperm pretty shitty outcome I thought my age might give me at least 2 good quality eggs to day 5! Ivf is so unpredictable. Goodluck everyone on your ivf journey ✨️

Thanks ☺️ - this is my third transfer, my now 18mo son is the result of my second so going back into the emotional rollercoaster for the first time in a while! I can't actually remember the grading as it was so long ago but I know this one is the same grading as my now son was and they both had a strong grading. The wait is such a weird time...!

So sorry to hear that @Cloclo93 💐 - I had two rounds that resulted in nothing, it's so frustrating when you just feel like you're hitting a brick wall, especially if you have no specific reason for it. Was that just from the embryologist? Will you have a follow up with your consultant to discuss options?

Sunflower360 · 02/03/2024 14:21

@Cloclo93 So sorry to hear that, it's really disappointing when that happens. I had total fertilisation failure of 2 mature eggs in my first ever EC through the NHS but since then we've had 3 x ICSI EC's and the fertilisation rate massively improved, so could be worth considering

Runner77 · 02/03/2024 23:39

Sorry to hear that @Cloclo93, what an absolute kick in the guts. I don’t have any personal experience of zero fertilisation but we are doing ICSI due to MFI and the fertilisation rate has been really good (although we have a big drop off after day 3). Anyway just wanted to send you a virtual hug, take care of yourself.

Got my LH surge this morning so took Ovitrelle, count down on now until transfer 😬 If I calculate right should be Saturday. Do I start the pessaries tomorrow (not today) as today is the peak surge???

DoctorBambino · 03/03/2024 09:22

I only started my progesterone today and am having embryo transfer on Tuesday afternoon, probably varies between clinics/people. I didn't use a trigger either.

Copenhagener · 03/03/2024 12:44

I have scan one booked in on Friday! Managed to get an 8am time, so all okay with work.

I’m curious about if we’ll discuss why my fresh round 1 failed, or just chalk it up to bad luck and move on with the FET. I hugely appreciate that my treatments are free, but I do find the public system does lack a bit of post-failure consultation. I think it’s down to them offering every woman 6 rounds of funded IVF, they have ‘capacity’ to fail a few times… still, I don’t love that approach.

Did anyone else go all-in on preparing for round 1, then say screw it and take things easier for round 2? In January I was doing all the acupuncture, massages, eating super healthily, not a drop of alcohol, loads of yoga, etc. Now I’m like ‘eh, it didn’t seem to make any difference, I’ll eat my vegetables and vitamins and otherwise take it easier’. I feel kind of guilty!

@Cloclo93 that sounds incredibly tough. I hope they can at least take some learnings from the outcome and optimise for next time.

@Copenhagener I have to say I have been bit more relaxed this time, still trying to do high protein and reduced carbs or at least healthier carbs, but I did have 2 glasses of wine last night and last weekend. I won't have any alcohol now as it's countdown to FET but in all honesty I have come to the conclusion if its going to work the slight relaxed nature to the diet etc shouldn't make a difference as if it's destined to not work it won't. I haven't done PGTA either so mot even sure if its a euploid or not but then PGTA I keep reading mixed things on it too-minefield really!

I was considering doing beetroot shots post transfer, is anyone else doing that?

I can't say I've heard of beetroot shots but from a bit of googling it sounds like there's some research suggesting it could help. Obviously if they had proved it definitely assisted we'd all be told by our clinics to do it as it's cheap and easy but there's clearly no harm and potentially some benefit so why not? To be honest, my main advice post transfer is to try to keep anxiety and stress levels down as much as you can (easier said than done!) and feeling like you're "doing something" and not just sitting around can only be a good thing!

Sunflower360 · 04/03/2024 10:38

@Shroedy completely agree, it's all just theories but doing something just perhaps feels positive-probably won't help!

I'm waiting to hear about transfer time but with a surge yesterday morning is there usually a timeslot they should be suggesting or is it flexible on day 5? Not sure what they look for when scheduling it

DoctorBambino · 05/03/2024 18:39

Transfer went well today, the couple before us were late so we actually got to go in a little early which I was grateful for as I was desperate for a wee!

Feeling very strange to think there's a little embryo in there doing it's thing!

JulesIVF · 05/03/2024 18:45

Good luck @DoctorBambino 🤞🏻🥰. Are you planning to wait until OTD?

My period started today, I’m so happy! Was a good 10 days late (cycle after egg collection) Countdown is on til our frozen transfer 🥹.

Sunflower360 · 05/03/2024 19:15

@DoctorBambino good luck! Will you test between now and OTD?

Nk11 · 05/03/2024 20:13

@DoctorBambino just wanted to say hi as I was reading this thread and I too had my frozen embryo transfer today (third time lucky 🍀 maybe?!) always find it comforting to have people at the same point

It was such a weird feeling this time round - I had successfully tried not think about the upcoming transfer too much but the second that embryo was in it was like I was hit like a ton of bricks that I had this little thing to protect. Just an immediate mental shift!

Runner77 · 06/03/2024 08:16

great to hear your transfers went well @DoctorBambino and @Nk11. Good luck! Hope you can relax a little and not think too far ahead.

Had my first scan for our FET this morning. Lining is a little thin so they have upped me to 6 estrogen tablets a day, and back for a scan in a week.

Hope everyone else is doing well x

DoctorBambino · 06/03/2024 08:28

I bet you were so happy after a ten day wait!! @JulesIVF

I'm not sure when I'll test, my official test day is the 18th. Is yours the same @Nk11 ? Really nice to have someone on the same timeline! I think I'll probably do it earlier but not sure how much earlier!

Nk11 · 06/03/2024 13:01

@DoctorBambino Mine is a blood test on 15th. Already finding it hard not to do certain things only one day in! I'm not sure on testing as my previous two transfers I have started bleeding by 6-7 days post transfer so I feel like I will just know but I am on lubion injections as well as pessaries this time. Also on blood thinning injections so I am looking like a bruised pin cushion already but so far feeling ok. Have you had any transfers before?

DoctorBambino · 06/03/2024 14:38

Oh poor you @Nk11 that sounds rough! I had a fresh transfer back in 2021 which resulted in my son. From what I remember I didn't have any symptoms at all until I was about 8 weeks!

I've just ordered some frers and some obsessive googling suggests 7dp5dt should give a pretty conclusive result.

Nk11 · 06/03/2024 14:43

@DoctorBambino amazing fingers crossed for another smooth run for you then now! I have literally no expectations now just going with it and what will be will be I suppose. I'll keep it in mind if I start to get to that point of wondering, trying not to think about it too much at the moment
