Is it too soon?

Hi Is anyone starting IVF in January/February next year?

We had our first failed IVF cycle in October and looking to go for our second cycle but the way my periods are it falls over xmas when they are shut.

So we are starting in Jan :)

Just so everyone knows you can pay about £50 for a private prescription from your IVF specialist and then order IVF medications from ASDA (who sell the medications at cost price for IVF). I ordered needles and syringes separately from a medical supplier, I already have a sharps box and my clinic said they will always dispose of sharps waste no matter where you get your meds from.

I ended up with a total cost of £194 for the medications for this FET cycle, this was for the 8 boxes of oestradiol, 15 progesterone pessaries and 21 vials of lubion. The lubion alone would have cost £375 if I’d ordered it through the home delivery company stork or bought it directly from the clinic. Would highly recommend for anyone trying to keep the costs down.

Hi everyone, I did post earlier in the thread but have had a bit of a break after my miscarriage. Waiting for AF now (due mid jan) to start our FET. Hope everyone has a lovely Christmas and here’s hoping we all get our wishes next year xxx

jonrik · 26/12/2020 15:02

@Gardenlady543 that is such good information. I just paid £1500 on Christmas Eve for my first ever set of meds. Can you get everything from other places?

Gardenlady543 · 26/12/2020 15:55

@jonrik with a private prescription you should be able to get the medications from most pharmacies I should think (maybe check with your local pharmacy ahead of time, they will need to order most things in, it arrived at Asda within 2 days). The best option would be to know what medications you need and then call up a pharmacy for prices. Asda pharmacy are known for selling the medications without profit. You will need to source syringes, needles and a sharps bin, but you can buy those things from medical supply websites and they are quite cheap. I didn’t know about this option for the fresh cycle, I just went with the flow, but these home delivery companies make a lot of money selling the meds, and for most people the medications are a huge cost.

If I ever did another fresh cycle I would definitely do this and we will keep using Asda for the FET meds as well. I’ve calculated that I should end up saving £1,600 just on the 12 weeks of progesterone that I’ll need if I’m successful.

Hello. Popping over here from the Dec-Jan thread. Unfortunately my cycle started one day too early to do a Dec/Jan cycle. Hopefully (if cycles start right) should be starting the weekend of Jan 23rd/24th on short protocol. This will be my first cycle.

We are doing this due to DH's childhood cancer in his piturity gland which means he has very very low sperm count - we've now had 18 months of hormone treatment and gotten from 10 immobile sperm to 2-3 million sperm per sample with excellent motility but the morphology is still on 1%. Which is massive but still requires ICSI.

I have low AMH (6.5 pmol) but otherwise it seems everything is fine with me. No reason behind the low AMH - I am 32.

Already getting irritated at all the unnecessary delays. it's been very frustrating but what can you do?

Freya2015 · 29/12/2020 20:43

Hi

Witt the current situation do you think the IVF treatments will be stopped ? I am due to start taking the northesteron medication for 5 days from the 4th January

I am soo anxious really scared.

Mancbear88 · 29/12/2020 21:27

@Freya2015 I asked the hospital this before the November lockdown and they said they didn’t think it would stop again, especially if the HFEA didn’t change their guidance. They couldn’t know for sure though but fingers crossed 🤞

Bells3032 · 29/12/2020 22:02

@Freya2015 I think the official line is they don't plan to as they have health assessments in place but obv there is a risk of staff being called to take up posts if they are NHS.

Freya2015 · 29/12/2020 22:05

@Mancbear88 and @Bells3032 i am with NHS so a bit anxious as i have waiting since September to start

MF1981 · 29/12/2020 22:48

Hey guys hope you all had a nice Christmas. I hear you on the covid anxiety as our process got delayed because of it earlier this year. Hopefully that won’t happen again.

Anyone on Buserelin? I’ve been on it since last Sunday and started AF today - pretty much right on time. The injections are starting to sting a bit so wondered if anyone else had that or if I’m doing something wrong?

Hopeforsuccess · 29/12/2020 22:58

Hope you all had a good xmas despite the isolation. @MF1981 try putting some ice on the injection site before injecting. I found it that it didnt hurt that much this way. Hopefully this helps.

MF1981 · 30/12/2020 08:46

Thanks @Hopeforsuccess - I did do that for menopur and cetrotide but because these were ok to start with I didn’t bother. I’ll start icing again. I’ve also not really had that many side effects yet but I might be speaking too soon on that?!

jonrik · 30/12/2020 12:26

Ohhhhh delivery arrived. here we go! That's a lot of injections! Hope they're not too painful. Any tips?

IVF January/February 2021?
Bells3032 · 30/12/2020 12:50

@jonrik oooh exciting. when do you start? I got mine weeks ago and just been waiting and waiting since.

My box was humongous though! though the post egg collection stuff took the majority of the space

I'm starting with the prostap next Tuesday. I've counted 46 injections and 30 cyclogest. Oh the miracle of life!
So do you not have a start date yet?

Bells3032 · 30/12/2020 13:26

We had hoped on Monday but my period came a two days early and the clinic was closed :'-( so hoping the 24th January as our start date.

I think I had:

  • 2 Pergoveris pens (with 6 doses each)
  • 5 Fyremadel injections
  • 2 Ovitrelle pens
  • 34 Lubion injections
  • 34 Cyclogest pessaries
  • 6 Lentogest (PIOs)

My husband saw it all and went horribly pale. He feels so guilty as we are doing this for him (low numbers due to cancer).

I hate needles but i am getting better and looking at them. he's promised he'll help if i get freaked out, he's used to injecting himself already!

elsiegoggings · 30/12/2020 14:13

Hello! I am about to start treatment for a FET after my next period (so should start drugs beg of Feb). I'm terrified! Did ICSI for our son and had a fantastic result so just scared it won't go as well. We have three good frozen embryos. I've been waiting to do this for almost 4 years but didn't think it'd be during a pandemic. I just can't wait anymore and I'm 40 so feel time is running out. My little boy is almost 4. Smile

elsiegoggings · 30/12/2020 14:19

Also, just wondering how people are keeping in a good mental space during the pandemic and lack of support during treatment? Xx Hmm

Bells3032 · 30/12/2020 14:30

@elsiegoggings good luck with your FET. Do you have a date yet?

Struggling a little bit with mental health - I've had my ups and downs esp with delay after delay to start, we are also a bit insane and decided to move (completing next week) and it has been beyond stressful. Just trying to keep myself as distracted as possible - seeing family when we have been able to, we have bought loads of board games and video games and just working as well.

I'll admit there have been times i've gotten really low and quite obsessive but just trying to focus on all the good stuff. In normal times I'd be going out and spending time with family and friends but obv can't do that atm, with a further lock down looming i am even more anxious.

jonrik · 30/12/2020 14:33

@Bells3032 Oh wow, that's quite a bit more than I have. I feel for your husband, that's a shame he's feeling the guilt.

Fingers crossed for you!

@elsiegoggings that's exciting you're going for it now. I suppose the experience with the pandemic is different for everyone. For me personally, not much has changed other than that we don't travel as much and can't visit family. I try and chat on WhatsApp and video or meet people for a walk to get some variety in the routine.

Bells3032 · 30/12/2020 14:46

@jonrik the medications are until the BETA at 12dp5dt. Once that's done if it works will need more until 12 weeks apparently.

Foreveraintenough · 30/12/2020 15:40

@Bells3032 I’ve said on here already that it’s a good idea to outsource the injections to your DH. I did my own for my first round and I found it stressful. For subsequent rounds my DH does it all - in charge of dose, mixing, preparing. I usually chill out while he’s doing it then he calls me in when it ready, inject and it’s all done so it’s over for me in a few seconds! If your DH already injects himself he is prob a dab hand!

Bells3032 · 30/12/2020 15:46

@Foreveraintenough i am planning to though i want to learn to do it myself in case for whatever reason he isn't available. He uses menopur three times a week so is completely used to it

elsiegoggings · 30/12/2020 16:24

@Bells3032 thank you 😊 no not got a date yet. We've delayed it so many times it's crazy. I'm slightly tempted to wait until May when things have settled down a bit and the sun is out but my impatience is taking over!
Wow, house move! Can you get the removal company to do the packing for you? That's what we did when we had our little boy and it was a huge relief! Hope it goes well. What stage are you at in your treatment? X
