August IVF

Had a quick look through but can't find an existing thread. Anyone due to cycle in August after a bit of moral support?

We are due to start our 2nd cycle of icsi for male azoospermia and my premature ovarian aging (full house for us!)

Thanks for the words of support everyone.

Lot of googling and another chat with the clinic and apparently 5% of eggs fertilise abnormally like mine and don’t have two pronuclei as they should. Mine only had one so could just be that they missed the second one as they’re only visible for a short time frame or the two are fused, in which case could still be ok. Or it could not have fertilised and the egg just activated itself thinking it had been (parthenogenesis). If the latter it won’t develop past day 3 so have just got to wait and see if it gets to blastocyst. Was still developing today (day 2) and going to call with another update tomorrow but won’t know for sure until day 5. Just when I thought this process couldn’t throw up any more “fun” surprises!!

loulamay · 23/08/2020 09:24

@LongtermTTC - the waiting is absolutel hell! Keep us posted x

@Mseddy – good luck for update call on embryos and @West2401 – got my fingers crossed for your scan tomorrow.

@Lepatz – are you transferring today? Good luck if so!

@StayingPositive8ositive and @Bruce2 – how are you ladies feeling? Any symptoms? I feel like I have slightly more cramps today, although not quite period-level, am very thirsty so seem to be drinking a lot of water and going to the loo a lot! No other symptoms apart from that. Would love something else to be happening just to reassure me. Second beta tomorrow and I feel sick at the thought.

Hope everyone is managing to have a relaxed Sunday! Brew Cake

West2401 · 23/08/2020 11:05

@loulamay @Custardandcream @kikisparks thanks - I'm trying to have hope but not hold out too much hope if that makes sense?

Feeling absolutely dreadful today, nauseous and I keep getting sharp pains in my right side plus a really sore back. I'm hoping that these are good signs but I suppose we'll see tomorrow.

@nextweek sorry to hear you're having a tough time but try to remember, it only takes one!

@Mseddy no news IS good news, keeping everything crossed for you!

StayingPositive8 · 23/08/2020 12:31

Happy Sunday everyone. Hope the wait for egg collections, embryologist updates and transfers is going ok for all?

@loulamay the only symptoms I have are sore boobs and feeling shattered by 7pm! Weirdly I think I would probably quite like some morning sickness to actually feel like this is progressing rather than potential side effects of the progesterone. I’m finding the process of waiting quite tough this weekend and can’t help but compare the twinges and cramps to my previous two MC’s. But there is literally nothing we can do....Sorry ladies was hoping to sound a bit more positive today!

Mseddy · 23/08/2020 13:22

I've just convinced myself that I've screwed the whole thing up today. So I've been craving baths, I've probably had about 3 since egg collection including the day after. I know I'm not allowed them after embryo transfer so i thought I'd have one last long soak today. Stupidly decided while in the bath to check that it was actually allowed and so much stuff online says no due to risk of infecrion! I mean it's my bath and the same water I would shower with. Granted I'm not aiming the shower directly up there! So should I be freaking out or not?

OP posts:
loulamay · 23/08/2020 15:10

@Mseddy - you haven't screwed anything up. I've never read about the no bath rule except after transfer, so as long as you avoid it then, I think take all the baths you want and do anything you can to make yourself feel better and less stressed.

@StayingPositive8 - pregnancy after MC is so hard, I feel like I am guarding my heart against it all. I am also going through waves of feeling calm then drops in positivity when I think about only being at 4 weeks and how long we have to go until I can even start to feel like this is really happening. What's next for you? Your first scan?

Lepatz · 23/08/2020 16:05

So I had my transfer today! I had been a bit nervous as I found the dummy transfer painful (it scratched me and I bled!!) But it was all good in the end.
Except apparently i followed the full bladder thing too rigorously - I had to go for 3 release wees as my bladder was blocking my uterus ;D

Out of the 5 fertilised, I had two ready to go today. We opted for single transfer, so will freeze the other. 1 of the others will hopefully be freezable tomorrow, the others are under-developed. I got a pic of the blastocyst, and it tucked in place - almost cried!!

I'm slightly confused though - the embryologist said the two that are ready are 'good quality' but then said they are only B grade? 6BBs. I didn't think this would be counted as good quality?? Also - the 6 is because they were assisted hatching - did anyone else have this?

Re symptoms - I've finally debloated from the EC (6 days ago) - the fybrogel sachets definitely helped!!

@StayingPositive8 Thanks for the fybrogel tip - worked wonders!! Totally recommend to anyone feeling a bit bunged!

@CardboardCat haha - just saw your post re Sweet like chocolate ;D Great news re getting 11 from 8!

@West2401 hope you're having a peaceful weekend - good luck for tomorrow x

@nextweek Sorry to hear thing didn't go as you'd hoped. I'm glad the transfer went well, and fingers crossed xx

@Mseddy Good luck tomorrow!! And I think the no bath thing is just an infection precaution - I wouldn't beat yourself up. Baths are soooo relaxing and that can only be a good thing! x

@LongtermTTC oh, all the waiting is NOT fun at all. Wishing your emby good strength.

@loulamay thanks and good luck for second beta tomorrow!!

Jacky83 · 23/08/2020 16:09

@Mseddy my clinic told me hot baths could help with the discomfort between egg collection and transfer. Don't worry you're absolutely fine!

Hey

No symptoms here which I'm finding a bit unsettling and worrying. I thought I might have had sorer boobs or twinges or be more tired but nothing so far.
Hopefully all is ok, can only hope.
We have our 7 week scan booked for 10th September so I'm praying we make it to that without any heartbreak
Just taking each little milestone as they come trying not to get too ahead of myself.

I hope everyone is ok.

Good luck to everyone with upcoming scans, ET, EC and general journeying through it all.

CardboardCat · 23/08/2020 20:51

Hey guys, we got the great news yesterday that out of 11 eggs, 10 were mature and 7 fertilised. Absolutely thrilled with that to be fair but quickly realised it was on to the next bit of waiting. So much waiting. I'll get a three day update tomorrow so just got everything crossed that the majority are still going strong. My husband is obviously feeling it now as well, he keeps saying to me "how do you think they're doing" and this is from the most patient man in the world.

@Lepatz Congratulations on your transfer! Brilliant having a frosty (or 2!) as well. That full bladder thing made me laugh, that will be me. I feel like I drink so much water that I permanently have a too full bladder or need to pee at the most inconvenient moments.

@Mseddy Really good luck tomorrow! Do they call you in the morning with a time to go in?

Good luck all of those in the 2WW! Cyclogest really is the devil. xx

CardboardCat · 23/08/2020 21:00

@West2401 I really hope it goes well tomorrow. I know what you mean about not wanting to have too much hope. We need to protect our hearts. You'll have the strength to deal whatever happens though, women going through infertility are made of steel.

Mseddy · 23/08/2020 21:24

@Lepatz congrats on the transfer! Exciting times.

@CardboardCat that's a fab number we'll done. I'm going in at 13.15 they gave me that appt on the day after transfer when they rang me to tell me how many had fertilised. I'm on edge!! They phone us in the morning to tell us the progress. I feel like sick with nerves as if I have an interview tomorrow or something! I just really hope we have some decent embabies and maybe a frosty or two!

@Jacky83 thanks that's made me feel better!

CardboardCat · 23/08/2020 21:40

@Mseddy That is bloody stressful, only another 12 or so hours to get through until that call though. Remember if they had all arrested then they would have called you, no news most definitely is good news. I've got everyone crossed for you, hope you can get some sleep xx

Mseddy · 23/08/2020 21:58

Thanks @CardboardCat I guess you are right about them ringing it they where all out. I think I'm just having flashbacks to last time. After getting 10 eggs last time and feeling positive, day 5 was the day we found out only 2 had made it and 1 was really poor quality one was fair. I had been excited up to that point and hadn't really been expecting the blow. Bad memories! Sorry for being a negative Nancy!

OP posts:
CardboardCat · 24/08/2020 08:21

@Mseddy You don't need to apologise for being a negative Nancy! I'm as bitter as a grapefruit some days. All emotions welcome 🙂

CardboardCat · 24/08/2020 08:22

@Mseddy I meant to say good luck as well!

Mseddy · 24/08/2020 08:28

Thanks @CardboardCat

After a completely sleepless night and a morning of thinking I was going to puke every 5 mins I finally got the call. We have 1 top quality embryo to transfer today, 3 to freeze today, 2 of which are top quality and one that is lesser quality but still decent enough to freeze and 1 more waiting until tomorrow to see if it catches up in time to freeze. We have never had frosties before so im so happy and overwhelmed and have ugly cried happy tears since we found out. For the first time this whole cycle I feel like we might actually have a shot at this!

West2401 · 24/08/2020 08:34

@Mseddy that's fantastic news!!! Hope it all goes well today, keeping everything crossed for you!

Absolutely terrified for today's scan which I know is stupid because I can't change anything. Been really uncomfortable all weekend which I'm hoping is a good thing but trying not to hold on to that. It's just makes me feel so sad to think in a few hours we're either finding out we've got to start all over again or we'll be finding out retrieval date, I feel sick

MsNoons17 · 24/08/2020 08:37

That’s great news @Mseddy! It’s such a good feeling to know you have some Frosties isn’t it. Hope all goes well today.

nextweek · 24/08/2020 08:45

That's fantastic @Mseddy you must be delighted!!
@West2401 Good luck for your scan, will be keeping everything crossed for you

Mseddy · 24/08/2020 08:50

@West2401 I've got everything crossed for you!! The fact you've been uncomfortable has to be a good sign!! Let us know how it goes.

Thanks guys

Jacky83 · 24/08/2020 08:55

@Mseddy that’s brilliant news! I’m so happy for you. We have three Frosties.

I’m 48 hours into the 2ww and time is dragging! Really hoping the weekdays pass faster!

We went out for lunch yesterday to celebrate the ET. Told I should treat myself as pregnant so trying to get my head around all the things I can’t eat. Needed to swap a cheese in my main course so said I needed to change it because I was pregnant. Felt like a fraud saying it! Anyone else have that during the 2ww?

kikisparks · 24/08/2020 09:16

Loads to catch up on, have been distracting myself from TWW, I’m 7dp5dt today, my OTD is Thursday. I phoned the clinic today to find out if I need more cyclogest from Thursday if it’s a BFP but she said no, the corpus luteum will take over from then, I will feel scared about stopping meds if I’m lucky enough to have this embryo stick!

@loulamay great beta! Hope test today goes well. When I was pregnant a few years ago (sadly ended in a chemical) one of my first symptoms was going to the loo all the time, it’s a common early pregnancy symptom I think.

@Custardandcream glad your lining was good!

@nextweek that’s great the transfer went well, fingers crossed for you, hope the TWW goes ok. I found transfer painful but I have painful smears and TMI painful sex due to my endo so I expected it.

@Jacky83 congrats on a successful transfer and being PUPO. I don’t eat cheese so haven’t had that situation, but legally you are pregnant now so it’s fine to say!

@TTC2021baby yes that’s the amount of cyclogest I’m on- after my egg collection until 3-4 days post transfer my bloating was the worst, I felt like Violet Beauregarde as a blueberry! Thankfully it has gone down so much now, much more comfortable.

@LongtermTTC hope it’s going ok and embryo is hanging in there for you.

@West2401 good luck for today’s scan, really hope it’s good news.

@Mseddy wow fantastic news on the embryos! Good luck for transfer.

@Lepatz congrats on transfer! Mine was sore and I bled too but that’s because of my “raw cervix” (yuck lol). That’s great to have a frozen embryo too. My clinic told me both A and B are good quality, they will also freeze Cs although I think these are only fair quality (2 of my Frosties are 4BC and 4CC). I don’t have any 6s but I didn’t have assisted hatching, I think 3, 4, 5 and 6 are all decent numbers though. Some places say 6 is the best, some say 5, some say 4, so who knows! I think it’s probably not worth stressing over, even though I probably still do a bit!

@CardboardCat congrats on your fertilised eggs! That’s great about your husband too, mine started to get excited from egg collection on and it has been nice to see Smile

loulamay · 24/08/2020 09:51

@CardboardCat such great news!

@kikisparks - you're back! haha. Well done on keeping distracted - have you tested at home yet? Wink

@Mseddy - what a relief! Amazing news

@West2401 - I have fingers and toes crossed for you.

@Lepatz - we didn't do assisted hatching although I have heard about it. Of the two embryos we put back in this time, one was hatching on its own (go Embie). My Dr said those are the ones that make him nervous because they often split into twins! YIKES

Mseddy · 24/08/2020 10:27

@kikisparks well done for the distraction! How are you feeling?
