August IVF

Had a quick look through but can't find an existing thread. Anyone due to cycle in August after a bit of moral support?

We are due to start our 2nd cycle of icsi for male azoospermia and my premature ovarian aging (full house for us!)

So I've gone from feeling pretty chill to freaking myself out. I couldn't remember exactly what days our embryos arrested last time, but I re read through the thread I was on last year and I had written it all there. This while cycle and lead up I've been trying so hard to improve egg quality and given my much better response I thought I had cracked it. However reading back all our embryos that didn't make it arrested after day 3, which means it's much more likely a sperm issue. Our consultant did mention this at our follow up last time saying the embryologist had to defrost 5 times the amount of sperm that they would normally in order to find enough "normal" looking sperm. Obviously we haven't been able to change the quality of the sperm as it's been frozen for the last 10 years! Now I've got myself in a slump thinking it doesn't matter how many good quality eggs we have, they are all going to arrest between now and day 5. God I hate the emotional turmoil of IVF!!!

My dose has been reduced! Thank god. Hoperfully I will start to feel like a human again soon.

Jacky83 · 21/08/2020 12:09

@Mseddy Don't panic. Remember you are pumped full of hormones right now which are affecting your mood. You only need one of them those embryos to stay the course. Don't lose hope! When is your ET?

Mseddy · 21/08/2020 12:09

@TTC2021baby congratulations they are great numbers. Fingers crossed for Tuesday.

@Jacky83 glad your clinic have listened to you, hopefully you start to feel better soon

Feeling completely deflated and devastated. 12 Follicles are there but they aren't big enough. They have slightly increased meds and giving it until Monday but if there's no growth they will abandon the round. I know they are just trying to prepare me for the possibility but I feel like it's just constant knock downs.

Lepatz · 21/08/2020 12:45

The embryologist just called! All five embryos have made it to day 3, all performing well and look good quality - transfer pencilled in for Sunday Star She still expects some drop off by Sunday, but optimistic we'll get one.

I've had butterflies all morning, so relieved :)

Oh, she just called back - we've been offered assisted hatching to help implantation. The science of this process is mind-blowing.

@Mseddy sorry to hear you're having a wobble. It's so good that they have been able to hunt for the best sperm - and you have so many more chances this time xx

@TTC2021baby these numbers are great!! We used ICSI too - all gets to the same place in the end :)

@StayingPositive8 Really happy to hear your blood results are so good :). And thanks for the tip - I managed to buy some at lunch!

@LongtermTTC that really is cryptic - I didn't even know the egg could develop like that. I hope you get more info soon - and good luck.

Thanks everyone for the info re working and time off :)

Lepatz · 21/08/2020 12:48

Sorry, I missed the newer messages.

@West2401 I'm so sorry to hear this. There is still time until Monday though, fingers crossed for some progress now your meds are up xx

@Jacky83 phew for having the meds have been reduced - did they tell you why it was so high??

Jacky83 · 21/08/2020 12:51

@West2401 Sorry to hear that. There is still time. I saw someone else say somewhere on here that hydration can help with follicles.

@Lepatz Something about the type of cycle I'm on and that a recent paper said to pump up the hormones during the luteal phase. We've agreed I'll drop to 400mg in the morning and 800mg in the evening and see how that goes.

StayingPositive8 · 21/08/2020 13:35

@Lepatz hope the fybrogel works for you. I drank it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach which helped. And great news on the embryos, keeping everything crossed for you for Sunday

@West2401 I know it doesn't help, but there is still time. I only had 3 follicles and two were very slow. But one of them managed to get from 7mm to 16mm in 2.5 days so you never know! And I agree, drinking plenty of water can really help

@loulamay I'm 15dpt today so I think they would classify that as 4weeks 6days but I do get pretty confused by the dating of IVF pregnancies!

CardboardCat · 21/08/2020 15:30

It all went really well today and I ended up with 11 eggs! Seeing as they told me I only had 8 follicles that looked like they were going to make it on Monday that's quite a huge haul. I'm really, really chuffed. The procedure itself was absolutely fine, as soon as the sedative was injected in the cannula I was totally out, no recollection of anything until I was coming round and my husband was laughing... They were playing Heart radio in the theatre and I came round singing "Sweet like chocolate". I do love a 90s banger.

I get the call first thing tomorrow to let us know how many fertilised. Oh yeah, the other good news was that hubby's sample was "perfect for IVF" so no need to convert to ICSI. Just keeping everything crossed that the magic happens overnight!

CardboardCat · 21/08/2020 15:42

Sorry guys, I posted without really reading back much. I'm really sorry that it's not been a great day for some.

@Mseddy Your fears are completely valid and it's terrifying. Just remember that you are in so much of a better position this time to last time, you took control of all the controllable bits and the numbers you have are amazing. I know it's going to be a loooong weekend but I hope you can enjoy some bits of it at least.

@West2401 That really effing sucks. It's not fair at all but hopefully the upped meds will pull it back a bit and those follicles will pull it out the bag. Wishing you lots of luck.

@Jacky83 Really glad your dose got fixed! Your post about going on strike did make me laugh a bit though. DO NOT MESS WITH A WOMAN ON TOO MUCH PROGESTERONE!!!

West2401 · 21/08/2020 16:28

@Lepatz @Jacky83 @StayingPositive8 @CardboardCat I'm really trying to stay positive just the initial shock. All were measuring 9/10 I just need them to get up to at least 15 for them to decide it's worth going ahead. It feels like 2 steps forward 3 steps back sometimes. I'm both trying to hope and not to hope because it's too hard to have another let down.

@Lepatz @CardboardCat amazing news for you both! Keeping everything crossed!

nextweek · 21/08/2020 16:36

Hi, I stepped away for a little while as our treatment hasn't gone as well as hoped and I needed a break. I see there's lots of updates, haven't had a chance to read through them all yet but hope everyone is doing well.
Unfortunately I only got 4 follicles big enough (had 16 on my baseline scan) but they only managed to collect 2 eggs and only 1 has fertilised. They're going to do a day 3 transfer but they have said its not 'top quality'. I feel so disappointed and not holding out much hope for a bfp this time.

kikisparks · 21/08/2020 17:12

@Jacky83 glad they’ve now got you on a more reasonable dose of progesterone!

@LongtermTTC I don’t know, sorry, I think I’d have to call them back in your shoes for more of an explanation about what this means going forward.

@StayingPositive8 great beta results!

kikisparks · 21/08/2020 17:45

@TTC2021baby that’s a great number fertilised! Hope Tuesday comes quickly for you! Do you get any updates before then?

@West2401 so sorry that’s so upsetting. I really hope the increased drugs do the trick and you get good news on Monday.

@Lepatz great number that have made it to Day 3! Good luck for Sunday!

@CardboardCat well done on your 11 eggs, hope lots of them fertilise!

@nextweek so sorry to hear that, that’s hard. But non- top quality embryos can still turn into babies, so fingers crossed for you. They wouldn’t transfer it unless it had a chance. When is your day 3 transfer?

loulamay · 21/08/2020 18:30

Just wanted to add my support @Mseddy @West2401 and @nextweek. The emotional and physical effects of this process can be so traumatic. It's like infertility PTSD. I wanted to write 'you are stronger than you think' but it seems so cliche! I think it's true though. We're all fucking warriors to have even got this far.

Got my beta results back and HCG is 94 today. So relieved! My Dr said anything over 25 was good but over 50 was great for this stage. Have to test again on Monday to check the level is doubling. Last time our first beta came back at 18 so I'm just trying to stay calm and positive and celebrate each little milestone. Easier said than done.

Custardandcream · 21/08/2020 21:56

@loulamay & @Bruce2 congratulations!!

@LongtermTTC I hope you get some clarification soon

@StayingPositive8 those numbers sound fantastic

@TTC2021baby those numbers sound great

@Mseddy sorry you’re having a bad day, you’ve done what you can to improve your eggs and it sounds like your clinic are still hopeful

@Jacky83 glad you’ve had your dose reduced

@West2401 sorry you’ve had bad news, I agree with the suggestions to keep hydrated. Wishing you luck for Monday

@Lepatz that’s great news

@CardboardCat 11 eggs is great

@nextweek I know why you are feeling disappointed, it’s such a rollercoaster, there is still a chance so don’t give up hope completely just yet

Had my scan to check my lining today, she said anything between 7-8 is what they want and mine was 7.8 so that’s good, due to have the FET on Friday

nextweek · 22/08/2020 15:42

Thank you for the messages. My transfer was today and it went well so now its just a case of waiting and hoping.
Hope everyone is having a nice relaxing weekend.

Jacky83 · 22/08/2020 16:30

@nextweek Fingers crossed for you.

I've had my transfer today too. The next two weeks are going to take forever. But we are pregnant until proven otherwise!

nextweek · 22/08/2020 16:43

Good luck @Jacky83! Did you get on ok today? I found it a bit uncomfortable.

Jacky83 · 22/08/2020 16:47

@nextweek It was absolutely fine. I'm still a little uncomfortable from the egg collection though.

TTC2021baby · 22/08/2020 17:05

@kikisparks yes should get a day 3 update tomorrow morning. Crossing my fingers!

On another note, presume it's fairly standard to be on Cyclogest 400mg twice daily post EC? I only started yesterday morning (rectally) and I am massively bloated already. Barely bloated at all during stims so pretty surprised it's hit so hard and so quickly. Probably a bit bunged up after the opiates given during the EC but holy moly, I look like I'm approaching my second trimester!

Jacky83 · 22/08/2020 17:42

@TTC2021baby I was really bloated after EC but that was due to the procedure not the Cyclogest I think as it has gone down now (I had EC six days ago).

Mseddy · 22/08/2020 17:44

Congrats @Jacky83 and @nextweek on your transfers. Fingers crossed for some sticky beans.

@TTC2021baby yeah I'm on 800 per day but my clinic like them all taken at night. They make me feel pretty bloated too!

We didn't get a day 3 update today. I didn't think we would as we didn't last cycle but DH thought he heard them say they would. Anyway I guess no news is good news for now. I can't do anything with the update except stress so it's probably a good thing

OP posts:
nextweek · 22/08/2020 19:14

Thanks @Mseddy and lots of luck for when you do get your update.
@TTC2021baby I'm on cyclogest 400mg twice a day vaginally (12 hours apart) and its definitely made me feel a bit bloated but not too bad. I didn't have any bloating during stims.
