August IVF

Mseddy · 23/06/2020 14:39

Had a quick look through but can't find an existing thread. Anyone due to cycle in August after a bit of moral support?

We are due to start our 2nd cycle of icsi for male azoospermia and my premature ovarian aging (full house for us!)

@Sabz36 oh my goodness. Not long to decide then. I think it depends on how old you both are. If you think he's the kind of man who wants a family one day maybe you should arrange to meet him and lay your cards on the table. Obviously not something you'd usually do so early on in dating! Maybe it's worth postponing this cycle. I don't know. It's great that you have ten eggs - amazing number!

Sabz36 · 27/07/2020 11:07

It's such a tough one. Basically I just started estrogen so we are looking at a transfer within weeks.

He is a really nice guy wants to settle down and have children etc. Such a conundrum but yes I think I'll just tell him

kikisparks · 27/07/2020 12:41

Hope everyone is doing well. Did anyone have spotting on norithisterone? I’m on day 5 of taking it and started to spot this morning.

kikisparks · 27/07/2020 19:54

Actually I got mixed up I’m on day 6 of taking it. Last day tomorrow.

seven201 · 27/07/2020 20:09

@Sabz36 good luck talking to him. Sounds like the right thing to do to me.

@kikisparks I'm sorry, I didn't have spotting. You could ring your clinic if you're worried. It's probably fine, but I'm no expert.

Eggling · 28/07/2020 07:17

@kikisparks sorry, no spotting here either. I think I remember reading that some women did have spotting though. Maybe check with your clinic.

Impatiently waiting for AF over here! No sign at all. I'm worried that it'll be late again like last time. Having a lot of anxiety dreams atm too. This process is all very stressful!

Mseddy · 28/07/2020 08:09

I barely slept last night because I'm so anxious about my scan today! It's not until lunch time, so I have all morning to wind myself up further about it! God I hate this process!

Hi all!
I’m a bit late to this thread, but can I join please? :)

After a gruelling couple of years of investigations and treatment for mfi, we were about to start our first icsi cycle in March until corona came along.

Finally got started on norethisterone 8 days ago, and am on day 2 of buserelin shots. Transfer looking to be mid/end of August if all goes well.

So far no real side effects - except v swollen boobs!! And some low level narkiness. We’ve managed to get away on hols for a few days which I assume is helping with the latter though.

Was so scared of injecting, but so far it hasn’t been too bad.

I’m 41, no previous kids, though one chemical three years ago. Have a high ovarian reserve, so am crossing everything we’ll get a good haul!!

Diet is healthy, but I’m having guilts about having a few glasses of wine on holidays. Planning to stop completely a few days before my bleed tho. Anyone else?!

Sorry, long intro post - look forward to cycling with you all :)

CardboardCat · 28/07/2020 09:49

@seven201and @LizTay80 my fellow chocoholics!! I wouldn't be able to get through this without some chocolate. All my meals tend to be pretty healthy so I don't worry too much about the choc habit, sometimes only a bag of giant buttons will cut it at the end of the day.

Welcome to the new people!! @West2401 @Lepatz and sorry if I missed anyone. It's cool that some of you are already well into stims now, for those that are- how is the bloating/physical discomfort level? I work in care and I've taken a week of annual leave towards egg retrieval but I will be working a bit while on stims. Trying to work out if this is realistic?

@Mseddy really good luck today. Hope it goes well for you. I know how nerve wracking it is with DOR, so many obstacles before you even get started. I know it doesn't mean much but you have an internet stranger rooting for you.

CardboardCat · 28/07/2020 09:55

Just to update on my situation. Husband is starting to feel better, it seems that the gastritis diagnosis may have been the right one as eliminating all irritants from his diet and starting omeprazole seems to be working. We are giving it a few more days before ordering meds but he has said that he's pretty sure we will be good to go. I'm so relieved that he's better and that we (hopefully) get to go ahead. It's a freakin rollercoaster.

LizTay80 · 28/07/2020 11:14

@Mseddy
Hope you’re doing ok and managed to keep busy enough this morning waiting for your scan. Is this the baseline you’ve got today?

@Lepatz Welcome!
Good luck on your first ICSI cycle. We’are having ICSI due to MFI. Glad to hear you guys have managed to get away on a little holiday.
With the wine- I had the occasional one every now and then, or a shandy but stopped when I started my stims. I’m sure it wouldn’t do too much harm.

@CardboardCat
Ha ha- I feel you! I demolished a whole pack of chocolate fingers the other night. My DH was disappointed he didn’t even get a look in 😂

With the stims- feeling bloated and a bit tender and still massively hungry all the time, but it’s manageable. I’m off work as my clinic advised me to self isolate two weeks prior to my collection, it’s been lovely to relax but realistically I could manage work.
Where abouts are you in treatment? Sorry I lose track of where everyone’s at.
Pleased to hear about your hubby- that must be a massive relief.

If any of you haven’t already- ( and enjoy listening to podcasts) subscribe to the BFN!
I started listening to it yesterday, it’s informative and funny!

I can completely relate to their comment about feeling like a battery hen at the moment- pumped full of meds ready to lay all my eggs! 😂😂

Lepatz · 28/07/2020 11:41

Thanks for the welcome @CardboardCat and @LizTay80!

Looks like I spoke too soon re side effects, started feeling nauseous an hour ago. Anyone else taking buserelin for down reg?? How is it for you?

Also, adding another plug for the mindful ivf app, it’s really helped me stay calm through the last couple of weeks :)

LizTay80 · 28/07/2020 12:24

@Lepatz

That’s so odd- I could say the exact same thing. Felt fine this morning, had an acupuncture appointment which was really relaxing. Now I’ve had this weird wave of lightheadedness.
Im on Buserelin too- during down reg I did have spells of feeling nauseous. My breasts were super tender too! I actually got better with those feelings ( apart from right now strangely)
Hope that horrid wave of nausea gets better for you. Try and get some fresh air, that always seems to help Smile

Mseddy · 28/07/2020 12:34

Welcome @Lepatz good luck with your cycle.

@CardboardCat I'm glad your husband is feeling better, and it meant a lot to know someone was rooting for me, Internet strangers we may be, but (apart from DH) you guys are the bulk of my support though this! So thank you.

It was my baseline and I have 16 follicles!!!! This is the best I've ever had. I can't belive I had a sleepless night and panicked so so much all morning. I had 15 follicles on my baseline before my last cycle and got 10 eggs so I'll be happy if we end up with similar numbers. I just hope they are better quality this time around!! I'm still shaking badly!

West2401 · 28/07/2020 12:51

Is anyone else having to take the pill for a bleed before starting stims? My PCOS stops me having periods so they are having to force a false cycle and pump my body full of progesterone (my levels are 0.1!!!!) so currently a little bit of a crazy hormonal woman 😂

@LizTay80 I'm wondering how long to keep working too - working in the fitness industry makes it a little more difficult to rest than if I had an office job!

It's so nice to have a place to discuss the whole process, I feel like I'm constantly having to come up with lies to cover my own back. I've lied and said cut out caffeine 'because I think I rely on it too much' and I'm telling my clients the hospital are going to try me on new PCOS meds in a few weeks that might make me unwell so I might have to take time off at short notice!

LizTay80 · 28/07/2020 12:51

@Mseddy

16 follicles! Wow that’s amazing I’m so pleased for you. Glad it all went well.
Do they count follicles as a total? That sounds an odd question but the nurse never gave me exact figures, just recall her saying to the student to write down 12 on one side.

StayingPositive8 · 28/07/2020 13:14

@Mseddy that's an incredible amount of follicles - well done!

I had my Day 6 scan today and unfortunately I only had three follicles on the right and the left ovary decided to to stay quiet this month. Gutted is an understatement but had a good cry and feeling a bit better. As they say 'it only takes one' and with low AMH I wasn't expecting a massive number. Just got to keep hope that these three keep growing now, starting my Cetrotide injection tonight with another scan on Thursday.

Hope everyone else is doing ok today.

Sabz36 · 28/07/2020 13:17

@West2401 I know what your saying about feeling as though there is a place to talk to others in the same boat. Currently on estrogen patches which hasn't had any negative side effects aside from my period being shorter than my usual 5 days. Had about 3 days with very light spotting on the 4th day

Lepatz · 28/07/2020 13:42

I know what you mean @West2401re having somewhere to discuss this. Somehow all my friends know “loads” of people who’ve done ivf... yet they are all in the “didn’t expect it to happen so soon” brigade!!

@LizTay80 - sounds like we’re in similar boats - hope the lightheadedness passes soon. I’m feeling better after a rather unhealthy but delicious pizza lunch :) Maybe should have said diet is mostly healthy ;)

Re follicles, my nurse told me the number for each side. I think usually one side is more dominant? But could be wrong. There’s just so much info about every single aspect of this process!!!

kikisparks · 28/07/2020 14:02

@CardboardCat so glad your husband is feeling better, that’s great news! Smile

@LizTay80 I enjoy BFN, I’m about halfway through. I’d say so far I preferred series 1 to series 2 but it’s still good, very informative.

@Lepatz sorry about your side effects but that’s nice you’ve gotten away on a short holiday. I’m glad to hear the injections are not too bad, I’m scared of them too.

@Mseddy that’s so great you have so many follicles at baseline!

Mseddy · 28/07/2020 18:25

@StayingPositive8 sorry to hear your scan wasn't what you where hoping. 3 growing follicles is good though! Thats 3 potential embabies!!

@LizTay80 they count each side. So I had 6 one side and 10 the other. Ive always had more on my right than on my left

LizTay80 · 28/07/2020 19:23

@StayingPositive8
I’m glad you had a good cry, it’s good to let it all out sometimes. 3 is still promising- don’t give up hope. Those three could potentially be great quality viable eggs!

Thanks for the info ladies regarding follicles! I must of been in a little world of my own during the last scan, unless she just didn’t tell me?!

@Lepatz
I’m pleased you’re feeling better! Super envious of your pizza! Yums.

I’m starting to feel nervous about my first stims scan tomorrow. I keep questioning so many things. Kind of hoping my egg collection will be this Friday. But in the name of this game, beggars can’t be choosers and I’ll have to roll with it. It’s my birthday Monday and I’ll have lots of little white lies to tell if it is then. 😬

Kiza · 28/07/2020 21:16

Hi Ladies, I'm tentatively joining and will be a lurker in the background. awaiting IVF appointment after 2 years of TTC number 1, clinic said I should have received the letter last week so going to wait until the end of this week to chase.
39, unexplained infertility other than AMH of 5.9.
Maybe be starting IVF or it may be September?

StayingPositive8 · 28/07/2020 22:28

Thanks ladies! Yes staying positive for a good outcome with the follicles and will see where we are at on Thursday for the next scan. Started the Cetrotide injection this eve as well as the Bemfola.

@LizTay80 best of luck for your scan tomorrow

LizTay80 · 29/07/2020 10:35

@Kiza
Hello & Welcome!
Hopefully you receive news this week of your first appointment. Definitely chase it up though, sometimes they need a little push.
Good luck with it 😊

@StayingPositive8
thank you!
Good luck for your scan tomorrow too.

My scan went well today. Been given my trigger for my egg collection on Friday. They said they need to keep an eye on me as I may be at risk of OHSS. They counted 18 follicles in total, hopefully I get a good amount of quality eggs from that. 🤞🏽🤞🏽
Apparently I have a more dominant side which makes sense from how tender it is.

Hope you’re all doing okies :)
