Hi all,

I can't see a thread for Dec/ Jan yet - maybe because a lot of clinics shut over the holidays - but mine doesn't! Anyone else out there starting in December and want to support each other? This will be my first round so I'm pretty nervous! X

Well done @BambiOnIce80! What is a split cycle?

Chooklass · 14/01/2020 15:46

Since this thread is nearly full (and I've been finding it so helpful!), I've set up another to keep us going 😊:

Awwwww, brilliant @Chooklass! 😊 I was worrying that we were going to max out and we're nowhere near done yet! Very glad to hear your scan went well 🤩 I was thinking of you this morning in the waiting room too - it was standing room only first thing 😞

@Lily999 a split cycle is where you do standard IVF with half your eggs and ICSI with the other half 🌗 We're primary unexplained infertility and I have this terrible fear that the reason I can't get pregnant is because there's something wrong with the permeability of my eggs 😰 If that is the reason for our infertility, then doing IVF only would result in 0% fertilisation and all this would end up just being a £5000 investigation 💸 Doing the split cycle by no means guarantees fertilisation, but at least we won't be putting all of our eggs in one basket🥚😉

Lily999 · 14/01/2020 16:17

Ah, @BambiOnIce I see, that makes sense, so when will you find out whether they are doing a split or not? And what makes you think there is something wrong with your eggs? Just a feeling?

BambiOnIce80 · 14/01/2020 16:39

Yeah, it's just my scientific brain @Lily999 trying to make sense of what's wrong with me! 😄 And the fear that IVF will fail where ICSI may have succeeded - this is our one and only fresh cycle, so we wanted to give ourselves as much of a chance as possible 🤞🏻

You apparently need 8-10 eggs to do a split cycle, so the embryologist said we're hot to trot 😊

Rovera12 · 14/01/2020 17:14

@ BambiOnIce80 wow glad it went well congrats.

Chooklass · 14/01/2020 17:14

Was it busy in the recovery room today @BambiOnIce80? When I was in there before xmas only 2 beds were occupied so it was pretty chilled but I can imagine it must be hectic with all 6 beds full!

BambiOnIce80 · 14/01/2020 17:42

OMG @Chooklass it was indeed full and certainly kept our minds off the EC! The couple on our left had a blazing row with loads of f-ing and blinding and she stormed out leaving her partner on her own waiting to be taken into the EC room! 😧 Then the lady a couple of beds to our right who'd come out of EC as I was waiting to go in came around and started full on wailing and screeching about the pain she was in... DP and I just looked at each other with our eyebrows raised to the ceiling! 😯 We weren't worried before all that! 😂 It's crazy how variable it is to how people react to the procedure - think we were very lucky! A fair bit of very uncomfortable cramping, but a couple of paracetamol took the edge off of that 💊 👍

HJF84 · 14/01/2020 18:01

Congrats on EC @BambiOnIce80! We did ICSI for the last cycle in our three cycle package, for that very reason. I have a low AMH and the Dr said that sometimes multiple sperm can enter the egg and you get a low quality blasto. From our ICSI cycle, we ended up with two usable blasto, whereas we only had one from each of the previous cycles. One of those blastos was my first failed ET, but the second should be transferred to me in a few weeks.

I had my first FET lining check scan today. I'm at 6mm so only 1mm to go. I have another scan on Friday, and they should set my FET date then.

@Rovera12 sorry it was meant to say on that post if we get BFN we pay all over again to start again so £2000 each time.

Yes we were successful the first time so that’s why we are paying. However, first time was a bit unusual as we had to freeze all from EC as we were going to transfer to my best friend as a surrogate & for surrogacy embryos have to be frozen for 6 months then repeat blood tests to ensure no risk of HIV for the surrogate. So We did EC, got 2 embryos, frozen day 3, then 6 months later thawed one, transferred one to my best friend as frozen embryo on day 4 & we have a 17 month old son.

My EC was NHS funded as due to my chemo, but all her drugs & the frozen transfer we paid for as NHS don’t support surrogacy whether it’s for medical reasons or not.
As he turned 6 months we then paid storage fees on the other embryo.
We did another EC & freeze all 8 months after the other when my friend was still pregnant, got 3 more embryos, day 5. As we didn’t have a child at that point I got funding for that. However now we have a child & 2 different lots of embryos stored in 2 different freezers we pay 2 lots of fees each year which is £500.

And each FET try now to me is c£2000. But I’m so pleased we have the “extra 3 embryos from the additional EC we did under NHS” which is kinda similar to your situation.

So it’s a consideration! But I know you want to get on 🤷‍♀️

Minster2012 · 14/01/2020 18:05

@BambiOnIce80 that’s hilarious on the other couples, well kind of not but still!

@HJF84 another FET -Er! Hi!!!

I’m counting down the days til my lining scan, seems ages away, next weds the 22nd 😞😞fingers crossed for you!!

Chooklass · 14/01/2020 18:52

😂 @BambiOnIce80!! That does sound like a good distraction! Last time the only other patient was before me and she came out wailing too! It made me terrified! Glad you found it all okay - I find most of the nurses there lovely (only met one grumpy one yet 😂).

@Minster2012 oh yes I know you meant BFN. Thank you for explaining all over again and pardon me, I remember you said at the beginning about ur best friend. I will see how it goes on Thursday/Saturday. I speak life into my embryos already. I believe it’s going to be good. #positivemindset

huffleclaw · 14/01/2020 20:16

Hello all!

I have been in hiding for a bit while I was waiting for my period to arrive. I a m very irregular so I am used to waiting but I think I got to day 76 this time!!! (I feel your pain @Lily999) Finally started today so have my appointment for scan, injection training and then starting injections tomorrow. I'm quite nervous of the injections but I'm sure I will get used to them.

Great to hear everyone's updates and progress! Fingers crossed this is our year!!

Minster2012 · 14/01/2020 20:30

@HJF84 sorry I didn’t mean er I meant yey!! Silly fingers!!

There’s so much going on!!
@huffleclaw the injections aren’t great, stingy but you get used to them & I used to think I was pumping my follicles up with each one to make it better!! 😂

@Rovera12 it’s much better to be positive! Our friends had their first fresh transfer work & their gorgeous DD born in december I just thought I’d mention it as 3 times is a great number, even if you only did 2 & transferred next time it’s something to think of & have thought of questions etc as it’s so hard to think on the spot!

rainbow178 · 15/01/2020 08:00

Hi all, fingers crossed for lots of fertilising this week!
I am on day 2 of stims, 2nd injection last night and I am feeling lots of twinges/aches in my lower back- is this normal!? I don't remember having this before, it's like my ovaries are doing summer saults!

Sabz36 · 15/01/2020 08:33

@rainbow178 I thought it was just my overactive imagination. I actually felt twinges on certain sides

HJF84 · 15/01/2020 08:48

@minster2013 😂 I remember a post you wrote earlier in this thread about FET - what stage are you at? I seem to remember we were roughly around the same time?

Lily999 · 15/01/2020 09:25

Good morning Girls!
@Chooklass created a new thread as this one is getting full, please come and join us we can continue in our new cosy home here:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/infertility/3795437-dec-jan-ivf-support-2

rainbow178 · 15/01/2020 10:42

@Sabz36 I don't even think it's my mind playing tricks on me because I never would have thought I would feel symptoms so quickly!! Where are you up to in the cycle? X

Sabz36 · 15/01/2020 10:58

@rainbow178 day 4 of stims

rainbow178 · 15/01/2020 11:19

@Sabz36 we are similar then, when's your next scan? I am on the 22nd which will be my day 9, thinking egg collection will be the Monday or Friday. Have you been on buserelin or short cycle?

Sabz36 · 15/01/2020 11:23

@rainbow178 I have my first scan tomorrow and then another one next week (tbc) I believe from this thread I'm in a short protocol as I wasn't on any medication beforehand aside estrogen

Minster2012 · 15/01/2020 11:52

@HJF84 I’m preparing (hopefully)! My womb lining for the transfer with estridol currently going to start buserelin again tomorrow and up my dose of the estridol on Friday I have scan to check lining and determine transfer date next weds 22nd. Hoping for transfer on 29th if all ok next weds 🤞🏻🤞🏻What about you??

I’ll go to the new thread now xx

BaileyBadger4 · 15/01/2020 12:25

Just back from day 8 scan and feeling a bit deflated guys. Was told my lining is thinner than they expect it to be at this stage and I had a fair amount of follicles but they are also smaller than is to be expected.

Lining was 2.6mm (day 8) 🙁 with 12 follicles on the right all around 6mm and 5 follicles on the left measuring around 3mm.

Nurse seemed to think all was ok just slow growing, so no dosage increase just keep doing what I'm doing meds wise.

They've cancelled our scan on Fri and we have our next progress scan on Monday now instead.

OH says it's nothing for me to be upset about but I kinda had my hopes set for EC on Monday (stupidly) and am now worried about why they seem so small and lining so thin 🙁 Just read back through some of your posts in previous thread which said they can catch up and lining can thicken though 🤞 so that made me feel a bit better 🤞
