I'm also annoyed that in my home country I'm not eligible for a free treatment either as I live in the UK now.. international marriages have some many obstacles..

magpiecounter · 05/08/2019 11:34

On @Viletta I'm so sorry. You'll have been eligible for your investigations though because we were even though we weren't able to have ivf on the nhs. Although if we had have gone the three free rounds route they all would have failed because they didn't investigate the ASA and simply blamed me for our infertility.

@magpiecounter thank you. what's Asa? Our investigation pretty much started and ended with the spermiogram.

magpiecounter · 05/08/2019 12:38

Yeah that's not enough. So many rounds fail due to not supporting the reasons for infertility. You need to both have the following bloods:

Hepatitis b and c including surface antigens and full bloods
HIV full scope
Full STD/STI antibodies done
Full blood count for you
Rubella check for you
*all these need to be done within three months prior to egg collection and needs to be repeated for any transfer if there's more than a six month gap.

Sperm analysis needs to show:
Morphology over 6%
Motility
Count
Volume
Antibody level

Your tests need to show:
AMH levels above 10
Continuous progesterone monitoring
Continuous oestrogen levels
Tracking of lining
HSG within 12 months of treatment
If necessary- laparoscopy to show any adhesions etc that cannot be seen in scan.

All these are the basic tests we had done with our ivf. It was £2500 for the full service beginning to end- tests, stims, collection, transfer, scans. We paid extra for ICSI because we needed it and embryoscope because it can lead to greater success due to time lapse monitoring. Our chances are 40-50% but increases by 60% due to my acupuncture and meditation course starting a year ago.

@magpiecounter we've done all of those. We did picsi and macs which were great! It ended up fertilizing all my eggs. Would definitely recommend these extra tests for sperm selection if you have mfi.

magpiecounter · 05/08/2019 12:41

ASA is antisperm antibodies. It means that the sperm cannot penetrate the egg and causes high levels of coagulation and sperm damage. This can also lead to embryos skipping development stages which is why we used the embryoscope. If an embryo skips stages it can look normal but won't develop after a certain point and leads to a failed attempt. We only had two in the end that had developed as normal on the time lapse.

magpiecounter · 05/08/2019 12:44

We were led to believe for years that it was my fault we couldn't have children as the RE used the fact my husband had a son to prove his fertility. He wanted us to do ivf with him at a cost of £8000 (which would have failed) and then would have charged for subsequent rounds till trying ICSI at £15000 a go.

One visit to our clinic for a second opinion and it showed I was fine and he was the problem. My MIL denies it and said the Damage must have happened between the hospital SA and the clinic. You don't develop 100% ASA in four weeks 😂

Viletta · 05/08/2019 13:13

@magpiecounter well done for seeking second opinion! Our asa is fine, it's just the matter of having a very severe oligozoospermia, we also did dna fragmentation and it wasn't as bad as I expected but we did picsi/macs to make sure the embryologist picks up best ones. We did the embryo camera as well. I'm at home today and it's not helping. Can't help but feeling it didn't work again and feeling sorry for myself. How are you?

magpiecounter · 05/08/2019 16:38

What were the defined causes of your MFI? We were led to believe that it was "unexplainable" but then one visit explained it. The consultant embryologist said there is always a reason and ivf fails more due to clinics not addressing this.

Viletta · 05/08/2019 18:10

It's oligozoospermia, all tests apart of the spermiogram came normal. We went to famous Dr Ramsey who said it's most likely epugenetic changes due to pollution, pesticides, use of plastic, etc. he suggested nutritionist to ensure the very few sperms we have are in best shape possible.

magpiecounter · 05/08/2019 18:45

What did your PGS show?

magpiecounter · 05/08/2019 18:46

What did your PGS show?

Viletta · 06/08/2019 13:47

Is it the embryo testing? We did t do it. Had only one good 3 day embryo first time and 3 blasts with the second cycle. We might do it if the second round doesn't stick.. I think it's cheaper to put the embryo in and see what happens then testing it at this point

magpiecounter · 06/08/2019 18:35

@Viletta yes it's the testing for abnormalities. It raises the chances of success by a further 25% or more by ensuring the blastocyst is genetically normal. It's no additional cost when you freeze them but it has to be opted into.

Viletta · 06/08/2019 19:34

Thanks I'll check with my clinic! Might be worth doing..

magpiecounter · 06/08/2019 21:29

You won't need to if you get your BFP when you test. I'm seriously doubting now as I'm in quite serious pain right now. I'm pretty sure AF is trying to start through the cyclogest 😢

Viletta · 06/08/2019 21:45

@magpiecounter same here.. af is due tomorrow and I started seriously cramping. Keeping myself busy with diy and gardening.. cramps could be a normal thing during pregnancy though..

magpiecounter · 06/08/2019 21:50

I've not had cramps before so feeling worried 😬 the cramps are usually an AF sign for me and not something that's led to a BFP

Viletta · 07/08/2019 00:17

I read that AF like cramps are normal for bfp as well.. let's keep the positive attitude pants on. How's your dad feeling?

magpiecounter · 07/08/2019 07:17

@Viletta yeah it's a bfn today at 9dpt so I'm thinking I'm out of the game. I'm devastated and feel stupid.

Viletta · 07/08/2019 07:55

@magpiecounter oh no:(( it is heartbreaking. Wait till the weekend to retest just in case. Is this your first IVF? It's down to luck sometimes.. there are so many factors we are not in control of.. the chromosome exchange, embryo stress when moved to different environment, immune response, endometrium receptivity.. are you going to try again?

magpiecounter · 07/08/2019 07:58

We cannot try again as I'll be too old by the time we finish this cycle and start again. The clinic won't accept us. I'm so angry as we could have started this process three years ago and were lied to all the way along so we have lost our chance.
