Hi all,

Am about to start my Clomid journey and reading through the 2018 Clomid thread this is what I'm looking for. It's extremely difficult to talk about the issues with people who don't actually understand them so if anyone wants to join in the more the merrier!

I'm 30
TTC #1
Cycle #?? Been trying for 5 years
Have mild Prolactinoma
Taking daily 1mg Bromocriptine for tumour
Just been given 3 months of Clomid
Am also slightly overweight but have never ovulated.

Smile

Thanks all, yeah I think I’m gonna carry on as planned. This whole thing is so stressful.

AmyMaria2 · 17/05/2019 01:09

@seven201 thank you, yes my consultant has the same attitude - without explaining much! I wondered if it helps egg quality, as I knew it hopefully helps to release more than 1 egg. Fingers crossed starting my second round of clomid tomorrow, thanks for other replies & good luck xx

Hi all,
Wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation to me? Or has any words or wisdom?
To sum up our situation, I was diagnosed with PCOS as a teenager and have always had very long cycles. I started taking Metformin which helped shrink them a little but still very long. We thought we would have little chance of conceiving naturally but amazingly, we got pregnant in 2017 and I had our son last summer.
I'm 33 and would like to get cracking with trying for baby number 2 later this year...
My problem is this....I'm pretty sure conceiving last time round was a crazy fluke. The cycle we conceived in was 60 days long and it was complete luck that we got pregnant. Being 18 months older and knowing that luck was involved last time round, I really would like to see if we would qualify for using clomid or some kind of fertility assistance to get my cycle more regular so we have a higher chance of conceiving more quickly.
My question is....will the NHS let me go on clomid even though I've already conceived and haven't been actively trying for a year for baby number 2? If so could I appeal that decision? And if not how much is it to go private for clomid? We have money saved up for this as we assumed we'd need money for help in this area.
Any thoughts or help very gratefully received! Thanks everyone

doomkittycleo · 17/05/2019 16:23

@Rg1987 I’m TTC #2 on clomid via the NHS; however the referral criteria was to TTC on your own for a year.

It may be different if you have an existing diagnosis of PCOS, but is there anything actually stopping you telling a little white lie about how long you’ve been TTC?

I know availability on the nhs varies in some areas, but others on this thread have said going private for clomid isn’t actually that expensive, so it’s possible either way.

Rg1987 · 17/05/2019 17:11

@doomkittycleo thanks for the reply. I definitely could stretch the truth a little! It just seems mad to me to jump through this TTC for 1 year hoop when I ovulate a maximum of 3-4 times a year...
Fingers crossed for you and ttc #2!

Constance1234 · 17/05/2019 17:13

@Rg1987 my private prescription of Clomid cost £30 for six months worth.

Rg1987 · 17/05/2019 17:25

@Constance1234 thanks for your reply. Was this your only expense? Did you have to pay for scans and consultations etc?

seven201 · 17/05/2019 18:25

@Rg1987 my private prescription for clomid was £100 for the appointment and £15 for the prescription for 3 months. No monitoring mentioned at all. I'd already had blood tests and swabs via the gp. They'd at least want some blood tests too I expect.

seven201 · 17/05/2019 18:27

And I very much doubt the nhs would give it to you so early on in ttc. Maybe you are very fertile, you just have long cycles so it's a longer wait. Just saying don't assume dc1 was a fluke!

Rg1987 · 17/05/2019 18:56

@seven201 thanks! Definitely! We'll be trying to conceive naturally but I'd like to have a back-up plan too. Out of interest, how did you choose which private clinic to go to?

Constance1234 · 17/05/2019 18:57

The appointment would have been £200 but I opted for a scan too, so it was more. But I’m in London where everything is mega expensive!

Rg1987 · 17/05/2019 19:14

@Constance1234 I'm in London too. How did you go about choosing a private clinic?

Constance1234 · 17/05/2019 19:26

@Rg1987 it was a recommendation from a friend - I can message you the details if you like :)

Rg1987 · 17/05/2019 19:32

@Constance1234 that would be great thank you :)

Constance1234 · 17/05/2019 19:42

@Rg1987 done! Have a lovely weekend :)

seven201 · 17/05/2019 20:20

I asked on a local Facebook group. It totally outed me as having fertility issues to lots of people I know, but I decided I didn't mind that. Got lots of responses. I'm in west Kent and saw a doctor in Orpington in the end. I think he might do some work in London hospitals too but I'm not sure.

Marmite83 · 18/05/2019 04:58

I spent yesterday evening out for dinner with friends, one of them is pregnant with twins and was really chatty about it all night. I was cd26 and just kept thinking about how maybe I was pregnant too. I got home and discovered AF had arrived Sad. To make things worse, I have an IVF initial consultation booked for a week Tuesday but I've checked dates and we wouldn't be able to start next cycle like we were hoping because egg retrieval would be likely to land on my daughter's birthday (when we also have her party booked for) or the next day which is my godson's christening. Looks like we'll have to delay for another month. We've already delayed for a month due to a wedding in Poland next weekend. I'm so fed up, feels like everything's against us atm Sad.

doomkittycleo · 18/05/2019 08:34

@Marmite83 oh hun I’m sorry you had to endure your friend’s chatter about her pregnancy, that sucks.

Do you have to travel far to be fertility clinic? Does DH have to be there? Could you not book an appointment early on the date of tour daughter’s birthday and leave DH and perhaps another family member to help set up the birthday party until you get back?

Surely if you call they can give you an idea of how much time to allow for an appointment like that?

Call me nuts, but I always like to do things the hard way. I’d rather stretch myself thin than wait another month (but that’s just me, I’m extremely inpatient).

I feel like we’re wasting a month due to still being on 50mg when I don’t think it’ll work because my Dr was on bloody A/L the week I needed to start my next round (how very dare he take time off work when I need him 😂).

Oh well you never know, the reverse psychology of thinking it won’t work might make it work. That’s what happened with DD, as soon as I got my IVF appointment it happened with just the clomid.

seven201 · 18/05/2019 08:38

I agree with trying to squeeze in the appointment on the party weekend if at all possible. Otherwise you'll have a whole cycle of feeling annoyed about it!

Marmite83 · 18/05/2019 09:34

I did wonder about that @doomkittycleo @seven201 as I would generally do the same but my DH has to be there to make his contribution too. It would probably take about 4-5 hours in total and we couldn't both leave her on her birthday for that long (the clinic is in London and is about a 75 minute journey from us). They also say to take it easy after the egg retrieval and that I could be in a bit of pain. If it landed on the christening day then we would be totally screwed as there would be no way to do both. I'm really frustrated about it but I think I would be so stressed about the probability of it happening that it would make the whole process more stressful than it needs to be which definitely wouldn't be good. I'm going 5o ring the clinic to check on Monday but I think delaying a month makes the most sense Sad. Maybe these things happen for a reason and this will turn out to be our cycle @doomkittycleo!

seven201 · 18/05/2019 09:48

Worth ringing them to see what they say. And yes in the grand scheme of things another month isn't a big delay, it just feels like it at the time. Let us know what they say.

seven201 · 18/05/2019 15:58

I'm on cd 19 and still don't think I've ovulated. Does that mean the clomid just hasn't worked as it's meant to happen 5-9 days after last pill? I had abdominal pain like period pain and bloating yesterday and day before but ok today. I've never felt ovulation pain so I don't know what it would feel like. My opk sticks are still stuck on high, not peak. Am getting lines on the cheapies now, but I don't think any are definitely positive. Just don't know what's going on Hmm

doomkittycleo · 18/05/2019 16:21

@seven201, have you kept your opk’s? Do you have any pictures to share for opinions?

seven201 · 18/05/2019 16:51

@doomkittycleo I don't usually keep them but I was inspired by you!

I think what's concerning me is that the clearblue advanced as still on flashing smiley. The wondfo lines (blue test) do get dark but the one step (green) are definitely nowhere near positive and I have had positives on those tests before. I would have put it down to being a dodgy batch if it weren't for the clearblue advance. Maybe it will happen in the next few days though.

Pic shows them in day sets. One am and pm one but the green tests were taken at the same time as the blue pm ones. I have an opk addiction!

@Seven201, I’d say you are yet to ovulate. Give it another 4 days, I bet you get your positive soon.
