February / March 2019 IVF / ICSI

Hi all, starting a new thread for those of us who are starting IVF treatment in February.

This will be my second round of ICSI, I start buserelin injections on 17th February. We have MFI (low sperm count) and after our first cycle ended in a chemical pregnancy, I demanded a laparoscopy because I have always had painful periods. The lap discovered I have mild endometriosis and mild adenomyosis but the surgeon said it was mild enough to not affect my fertility.

I am continuing with the NHS, doing a second fresh cycle. We have 3 frozen embryos from the first round as backup if this one doesn't work...

Would be good to have some cycle buddies to share support over the next couple of months...

@ParksAndRecreation I've found FETs strange after the stress of a fresh cycle too. It's hard to believe that there's actually embryos in there as there's not the build up to it maybe? Anyway, best of luck for the test day.

@Ginandtonic31 you and your partner will need to sign the paperwork that you're in agreement for the embryos to be used, but I didn't have a full clinic apt just rang the month I wanted treatment with my period as I did for the fresh. Hope you enjoy your holidays!

Ginandtonic31 · 14/03/2019 22:03

@MrsC18 we've already done all the signing for our embryos and what will happen if one of us dies etc. My nurse has replied saying she just needs to see us to sort the prescription etc. I've some nice holidays coming up now though!

Hello I've recently received, a letter to say I'm entitled to one fresh round of ivf, in Birmingham woman's hospital. I have the meeting on 18th April Does anyone know how long be after then? I've done 7months clomid 3 months of letrozole. Fell pregnant a few moth ago. To only end in a miscarriage. I have pcos. I've had a few scans in the past. I'm starting to wonder if I have endetrimosis. Does anyone know how you get checked for that? Thanks sorry for all questions xxx

Thund4rcat · 15/03/2019 09:41

@flyingjets13 it will depend on the clinic whether they have a waiting list or not. I was lucky and started treatment almost immediately after my referral to an NHS IVF clinic. They had to run blood tests and semen analysis again first though as my doctor had done it wrong and they wanted a second SA. So that took about 6 weeks because it has to happen on a certain day of your cycle.

I have endometriosis and the only definite diagnostic test if nothing shows on scans is a laparoscopy. Nothing showed on my scans and I had a round of IVF which failed before they agreed to do a lap. They found I had adenomyosis and endometriosis, the latter of which they treated.

Do you have symptoms of endo? Such as very very painful periods?

My doctor wanted us to try IVF before a lap because he said a lap could itself cause damage so if there was no endo would be an unnecessary risk, but after a failed round agreed to do it. We have 3 rounds available on our NHS where I live though. So if you just have one they might be more willing to do a lap before your IVF, if you have endo symptoms.

AF arrived - Day 1 scan tomorrow, on a Saturday! Grin

Flyingjets13 · 15/03/2019 12:59

Thanks for reply. I'm due on period in two week. I have pelvic pain. Not enough to stop me doing day to day things. My husband keeps saying I'm looking for more problems. I just wondered if I had anything else othr , than pcos. As I have 39 year older sister who's about to give birth to her 4th child this month, who's bin is off the charts. She's also got pcos. I'm just wondering why I'm 30 and slim and us unable to conceive. I'm perhaps just finding excuses to give my self each time my period comes. I don't want to get to age where I look back and could of done more research. I've had tubes checked and vaginal scan nearly two year ago, to diagnose me with pcos. I don't want to start ivf of o have got something else. Will my dr be able to do anything ? Or should I go to private dr? X

Got the go ahead to trigger tomorrow night. EC planned for Monday morning.
Any tips?

Ginandtonic31 · 15/03/2019 15:18

@Twiglet2353 I don't know what tips I would give really other than don't worry as it's over quickly. And if you feel shooting pains the day after trigger it's just the eggs maturing.

Thund4rcat · 15/03/2019 16:03

@Flyingjets13 you should be able to get a laparoscopy on the NHS, I did. But only if they suspect you have endometriosis. They didn't believe I had it because I had no pain during sex, I only had period pain, but turns out I did have it. So you may need to push your doctor for referral for a laparoscopy if you are convinced you could have endo. I presume you have already had all your hormone tests and your husband has had a semen analysis? You may just be unlucky and may be lucky with your round of IVF.

@ginandtonic31 wow thats so wonderful I’m delighted for you! Have been taking break after getting AF :-( doctor is calling me on Tuesday to say what they would do differently next time. We booked a little holiday with our DS in 2 weeks to Spain so that will help a bit! Wishing baby dust for everyone!

custardtarts · 15/03/2019 18:48

So I had a FET on Saturday - my blastocyst was graded as a 3BA - it was frozen early on day 4 as it reached blastocyst stage early......so my question is if I am working out when to test (yes I known it's naughty!) am I 6dp4dt today or 6dp3dt????

trying2con · 15/03/2019 19:53

Hello yes, my husband as had. 2times semen analysis. He has more than usual. Private dr said there's more than enough. But sometimes can be mishaped. So I'm presuming that's why, we got ivf with me also having pcos. I've had clomid day 21 bloods took for 7months. That's the only thing I've been checked for when comes to hormones, I'm hoping I'm just unlucky, as I've been pregnant once. I might just book appointment at normal drs, and see what he says. I don't want to be digging around cause more problems with the lap test I went for private scan while pregnant, when I suspected miscarriage. Lady said she could see little scar tissue. Wasn't sure if that was normal or not. It's all so frustrating I try and do everything the right way. Always negative results. The drs look at me like why I ain't already pregnant as (apparently I'm young and slim) 🤔 I feel like saying don't make any difference. Thanks sorry for rant xxx

mikkyr · 16/03/2019 11:01

Day 1 scan was a flop. Only 2 follicles and a cyst. So now we take the meds and wait for the next cycle. Wait wait wait wait. Seems like all this is about is waiting ...

sweetsaltypopcorn · 16/03/2019 14:39

I'm 5+3 today and getting very light, brownish discharge. Not every time I go to the loo, but enough times to make me start to panic. Really freaking out.

Twiglet2353 · 16/03/2019 16:04

Sorry to hear that @mikkyr

Hope you're okay @sweetsaltypopcorn xx

Twiglet2353 · 16/03/2019 20:20

Trigger done.

I see I'm supposed to take 600mg ibuprofen an hour before egg collection, but it would be on an empty stomach. Anyone got experience with this? Haven't taken ibuprofen for years because I think it once gave me diarrhoea. Now having visions of getting it whilst under sedation and my legs in stirrups! 🤦‍♀️😬

Ginandtonic31 · 16/03/2019 21:52

@Twiglet2353 never heard of that. I had nothing both rounds.

Runner31 · 17/03/2019 05:47

Ibuprofen makes me sick so I just took two paracetamol 2 hours before and then 2 hours after. The clinic gave me a pain killer just before the collection as well. It's all over pretty quickly so even though it is a bit uncomfortable it doesn't last long. The nurses were great with keeping me distracted with chat as well.

Twiglet2353 · 17/03/2019 06:34

@Ginandtonic31 @Runner31 I think I may give it a miss then and take some paracetamol instead. What do they usually give pain relief wise in recovery? IV paracetemol? Or nothing?

Runner31 · 17/03/2019 06:38

I just had normal paracetamol tablets and had a hot water bottle when I got home. I think that helped more than the paracetamol. What time is your appointment?

Twiglet2353 · 17/03/2019 06:41

The collection itself is scheduled for 8.45am, and told to get there about 20 minutes before

Ginandtonic31 · 17/03/2019 09:29

@Twiglet2353 are you awake or sedated? I was sedated so went to sleep and felt nothing. Pain relief was put down the cannula before I woke up and then 4 hours later when it wore off I took normal paracetamol.

Runner31 · 17/03/2019 10:36

Hope all went well @Twiglet2353. X

MrsC18 · 17/03/2019 12:59

@Twiglet2353 I was sedated for the EC last time so didn't feel anything until I was back on the ward and then asked the nurses for paracetamol before they discharged me. I then took codeine later that afternoon and before bed as was in quite a lot of pain but was fine the day after. Also recommended a hot water bottle, life saver!

I'm currently in the emergency gynae ward due to ?OHSS, lots of bloating, pain and sickness. Only on day 6 and feel pretty awful. This experience is a bit shit also as it's also the EPU, so I keep getting asked how many weeks I am by the staff and am literally surrounded by pregnant people. Anyway, bloods have been taken and I'm waiting on the dr to decide if they'll admit me for IV fluids or if they can just reduce the Menopur. Roll on home time!

Twiglet2353 · 17/03/2019 15:25

@MrsC18 @Runner31 @Ginandtonic31 I'm being sedated but not under general. Should be okay taking some paracetamol beforehand then 🙂. Feeling a little less anxious about it today. 18 hours time it will all be over.

@MrsC18 poor you!! I didn't even know you could get OHSS actually during stims. How awful, hope you're doing ok?x
