February / March 2019 IVF / ICSI

Hi all, starting a new thread for those of us who are starting IVF treatment in February.

This will be my second round of ICSI, I start buserelin injections on 17th February. We have MFI (low sperm count) and after our first cycle ended in a chemical pregnancy, I demanded a laparoscopy because I have always had painful periods. The lap discovered I have mild endometriosis and mild adenomyosis but the surgeon said it was mild enough to not affect my fertility.

I am continuing with the NHS, doing a second fresh cycle. We have 3 frozen embryos from the first round as backup if this one doesn't work...

Would be good to have some cycle buddies to share support over the next couple of months...

@MrsC18 so sorry to hear that! It is awful being around pregnant people. And must be stressful being in the emergency ward. Hope you feel better soon.

@Ginandtonic31 just read your update. Brilliant results! I shall hear tomorrow about our PGS results.

Ginandtonic31 · 17/03/2019 22:59

I hope it's good news @Russkispy. I'm still worried that ours will be rubbish because they haven't been PGS tested!

MrsC18 · 18/03/2019 12:20

I'm fine, no OHSS they're happy with the meds and my response, however from the scan today the dr has noticed that I have scarring. He's taken scan photos and apparently my consultant with have a look and make a decision re next steps. The nurse afterwards said that they are going to go ahead with the EC as planned but that this scarring may be the issue in the previous transfers not working. I'm devastated. I've had about 12 scans in the last year and it's never been noted before, I'm so grateful to this dr for seeing it and stopping me wasting more embryos if that is what the problem is. From reading the internet, it's hysteroscopy to cut the scarring away. Hormones deffo not helping but I feel so sad today

Runner31 · 18/03/2019 19:21

@MrsC18 I'm so sorry you've had so much stress. It's so frustrating when things are missed, especially after so many opportunities to catch it. On the plus side it sounds like it might be something that can be fixed so in the long run things could improve.
I feel I need to give up today. Took a tesco cheapie, clear blue and internet cheapie after work today and still only a very faint line. It was looking up yesterday when i got quite a dark line and i know I drink a lot of water during the day so testing in the afternoon is daft but I really think the lines would have been improving quicker.
On top of that my lower back hurts and my boobs are killing me, likely caused by the oestrogen and progesterone, and I'm feeling generally rubbish. I'm a total misery!

Thund4rcat · 19/03/2019 18:12

@Runner31 I am sorry to hear you are feeling down. If you did an afternoon test and still got a positive line that still sounds like you could be OK. Did you test again today? Was yesterday your official test day and first test you did this cycle? Sorry if I missed an earlier update. Fingers crossed for you.

I woke up at 4am and took 3 tests with FMU. A Tesco cheapie, a clear blue digital and an internet cheapie. Tesco one was positive, still faint but clearly positive, clear blue said 1 -2 weeks pregnant (so really 3-4 weeks) and my more sensitive internet cheapie (supposed to be 10miu/ml) was the faintest of them all. I dont know what to think any more. I am worried my hcg is low which isn't a good sign but it was higher last time and I miscarried at just over 5 weeks so who knows what's going on. Official test day is Thursday so I'm going to try not testing again till then. How are you doing?

Twiglet2353 · 20/03/2019 08:34

Update from the embryologist this morning;

  • 16 eggs collected
  • 16 mature
  • 15 embryos
  • 4 currently at Grade 3 and above

Transfer planned for Saturday 😬🤞

AliceAbsolum · 20/03/2019 09:03

@Twiglet2353 Wow! amazing numbers, you must e so pleased. Yay!
So a 6 day transfer if on Saturday?

AliceAbsolum · 20/03/2019 09:07

@MrsC18 How upsetting that this wasn't picked up beforehand! Hopefully they will remove it and bang, BFP. Hope you find out some more info soon.

@Runner31 You're still getting positive tests one day before testday...I'd say this is currently very good news. Hang on in there.

-----

I've had 5 days of bright red spotting before AF with pain in my left Ovary where the cyst is. Honestly my body is a state. MRI on Tuesday, won't know anything for ages. CD2 today, hopefully in 26 days-ish I'll be starting stims (short protocol), but tbh at the moment I just hope I don't have ovarian cancer.

Twiglet2353 · 20/03/2019 09:17

@AliceAbsolum it'll be 5 day transfer as EC was on Monday. Excited and nervous all at the same time.

Re your mri on Tuesday, I really hope everything is okay and they're just crossing the T's and dotting the I's. Sending all the luck that you're starting stims this time next month xx

MrsC18 · 20/03/2019 12:00

Day 9 scan today and the doctor today said she's not worried about the scarring. I've spend the last 2 days worrying and crying for her to say she thinks it's fine???
Anyway, they will take a closer look at the EC apparently and make a decision from there. Just waiting on the call to tell me if I'm triggering tonight for EC Friday or waiting until Monday. Apparently it's looking like I'm ready today so they want to wait for the blood test to decide whether to change the trigger like last time.

It truly is a rollercoaster and I'm exhausted with it all.

@AliceAbsolum Don't forget how much of an effect TTC has on "pregnancy symptoms" in the beginning. The pain is hopefully because you're now aware of it. I hope you start treatment soon and you don't wait too long for the MRI results. I had one last year for an unrelated issue and the results were 3 weeks

MrsC18 · 20/03/2019 12:02

@Twiglet2353 those are amazing numbers, hope your embryos do well for the next few days. Glad you're feeling ok overall

MrsC18 · 20/03/2019 16:37

Had the call and I'm triggering tonight at 11pm, had to come back to he clinic to change the trigger to Buserelin as my oestrogen has gone very high again. So EC Friday morning. Have been told that it's a freeze all cycle due to the likelihood of OHSS but tbh they said that last time and I had a fresh so we'll just wait for Friday

Best set an alarm so I don't fall asleep and take the trigger too late!

Thund4rcat · 20/03/2019 17:47

@Runner31 if your official test day is tomorrow and you are getting any positive results today it sounds very good for you!

Thund4rcat · 20/03/2019 17:50

@MrsC18 that's great they said not to worry about the scarring. Good luck with your collection on Friday!

@Twiglet2353 wow what great numbers! Good luck with their progress.

Thund4rcat · 20/03/2019 17:55

I had my day 8 of stims scan today and only had 4 follicles at 10mm, all on one side and all the rest were small. Waiting for a call to see if I need to increase my Menopur dose. Bit disappointed because I had many more on my last cycle with Gonal-f but they told me the usual line of quality over quantity. But obviously we don't know the quality yet so it's not that helpful!

Next scan Friday, fingers crossed for more.

Runner31 · 20/03/2019 18:34

Well I've taken 3 tests this afternoon and all have come up negative so I'm not holding out any hope now for tomorrow. It looks like it was just a chemical 😔. It's strange because I've felt really sick yesterday and today and have a sore back. My boobs have been really painful when I walk as well and none of that was as bad last time when I was pregnant.

MrsC18 · 20/03/2019 19:41

Runner that is shit news, I'm so sorry to hear this.

MrsC18 · 20/03/2019 19:45

@Thund4rcat I take everything they say with a pinch of salt too! I always worry they have my dose too high as my oestrogen goes very high and then they have to trigger me. In my ignorance I think that maybe if they'd just go lower for longer I'd have more eggs??? But last time it was day 10 and this time day 9, so I think I'll get less 😞

Ginandtonic31 · 20/03/2019 20:00

@MrsC18 I went slow and long last time and only got 4 eggs! Slightly higher this time and 27 eggs. Sooooo sometimes I think the body does want it wants!

MrsC18 · 20/03/2019 22:55

@Ginandtonic31 thanks, that's exactly what I needed to hear. I've no idea why I would think that I know more than these guys, but I always do!

Ginandtonic31 · 20/03/2019 23:01

@MrsC18 I always think I know more too last time I was really peed off I had been given Buserelin as my trigger as everyone else has HCG so I was ranting it wouldn't work. Obviously did it's thing though.

MrsC18 · 21/03/2019 07:03

@Ginandtonic31 they always swap my trigger from HGC to Buserelin as my oestrogen goes very high and they're trying to manage the likelihood of OHSS. If you got 27 eggs last time then a HGC trigger would have made you very ill.
I do think part of the problem is the clinic only tells me bits of why they do things so I make up the rest of the narrative myself!
