February / March 2019 IVF / ICSI

Hi all, starting a new thread for those of us who are starting IVF treatment in February.

This will be my second round of ICSI, I start buserelin injections on 17th February. We have MFI (low sperm count) and after our first cycle ended in a chemical pregnancy, I demanded a laparoscopy because I have always had painful periods. The lap discovered I have mild endometriosis and mild adenomyosis but the surgeon said it was mild enough to not affect my fertility.

I am continuing with the NHS, doing a second fresh cycle. We have 3 frozen embryos from the first round as backup if this one doesn't work...

Would be good to have some cycle buddies to share support over the next couple of months...

Bad news today. Consultant told me AMH was 1 and that he was happy to do my 1 funded cycle but he wasn't sure whether I'd get anything to day 5.
He's also concerned about the cyst so I have to go for an MRI. Said it might be June now.
Very tearful and a bit devastated.

Twiglet2353 · 05/03/2019 20:35

Oh @AliceAbsolum that is truly shit xxx

2019isouryear · 05/03/2019 21:05

So sorry to hear your bad news @AliceAbsolum

Ginandtonic31 · 05/03/2019 21:13

Oh I’m so sorry @AliceAbsolum 😞 what’s your next step? Waiting for the scan before you can start? It’s good though they will at least let you have a round? Maybe the month you start will be a good month for follicles 🤞

AliceAbsolum · 06/03/2019 07:59

Thanks guys. Yes waiting for the MRI, apparently it will be within 2 weeks 'due to the cancer guidelines'. Great.
Looking into donor eggs and feeling a bit more hopeful. At least that way I can skip the difficult bit and go straight to transfer. Who knows, it's a long way off.

Ginandtonic31 · 06/03/2019 08:18

@AliceAbsolum can you have your free nhs round with donor eggs?

Looks like my period is coming already and I only had EC Friday! Although I think it came the same day to a T last time.

Meownow9 · 06/03/2019 08:20

Sorry to hear that @AliceAbsolum, that's really rubbish x

Well a BFN for me this morning, no surprise there ☹️ Not really feeling much but think I'm keeping it all in.

MrsC18 · 06/03/2019 16:01

@Meownow9 I'm sorry to hear this, I hope you get some answers xx

Meownow9 · 06/03/2019 16:07

Thank you @MrsC18 x

Thund4rcat · 06/03/2019 16:10

So sorry to hear that @meownow9.

And @aliceabsolum I understand how that must be devastating. I had to have a cervical polyp removed before I could start this cycle of ICSI and that delayed things by 4 months. I think the waiting is the hardest thing to deal with. It is good they are going to move quickly with dealing with your cyst though, and they will still go ahead with a funded cycle for you. Best of luck.

Hello ladies, sorry to hear that @aliceabsolum you sound like you are doing as well as you can and great that tou are planning ahead and know what you want to do with Donor eggs.

@Meow Meow sorry to hear of BFN it's always disappointing to see it in reality.

Im due to have the 2 w test on Monday but have a test in my bag and kind of want to do it myself as kind of think it will be neg anyway and don't really want to go through all the emotions in the clinic if that makes sense? My hubby put me off saying not to do it this morning and to wait..
Excited for you @Twiglet it's great to know you're actively doing something I think
@ ginandtonic so happy for you with the eggs great result!

PrayingandHoping · 06/03/2019 17:35

Late to this post....

I had egg collection 14th feb and had a positive blood test last Friday so am 4weeks+6. Also had 2 frozen

It's very early days and been a long journey (has bad time with nhs and ended up going private) so not letting us get tooooo excited. This was our first round so feeling very lucky. 7 week scan booked for 21st March.

MrsC18 · 06/03/2019 17:43

@AliceAbsolum that must have been a terrible shock for you both for the AMH result and the impact of the cyst delaying things.

In terms of what the consultant said, getting embryos to day 5 means nothing in terms of their quality (as I'm sure you know) - it's a numbers game, so as long as you do respond to the medication and they can recover an egg that fertilises, your age means that it's more likely to be a better quality egg than another person that produces more, but is closer to 40. If your CCG is willing to fund the round then it's definitely worth trying and seeing how you respond. Check your CCG guidelines as well because mine don't count a cycle that is stopped before EC, so if your clinic think that you don't have enough follicles during stims it could be called off to allow you to still have an NHS egg donor cycle.

AliceAbsolum · 06/03/2019 17:56

How interesting. Thank you for that. I thought they kept them cultured for longer for a reason? Surely a blast is better than a day 3-er? Or not? Is it just risk management incase they don't develop but actually it would turn into a blast in the womb?... Nope I'm totally confused.
Will ring the ccg tomorrow to talk about donor cycle thank you so much for that!

MrsC18 · 06/03/2019 18:19

@AliceAbsolum they culture them for as long as needed in order to pick the best option, more eggs means more days as it's a numbers game. If a woman has 2 eggs and they both fertilise the clinic will usually put them back ASAP as the embryos develop better in the uterus than Petri dish. Getting to a blast means that you've had enough embryos to keep going. It has no impact on the quality of the eggs that you will produce.

A day 5 blast is no better necessary than a 3 dayer as the 3 dayer should become a blast in the uterus.

AliceAbsolum · 06/03/2019 18:30

Oh I see! OK that makes me feel a bit better. Thank you.

Twiglet2353 · 06/03/2019 19:50

Thanks for clarifying @MrsC18

Congrats @PrayingandHoping

First Bemfola done and dusted. Stung a bit. Might employ an ice pack for tomorrow's dose!

Cns12 · 06/03/2019 20:43

Hi guys, im new to this forum and joined for some support. Im 6 days post ET on my first cycle, had 2 other eggs frozen which im happy with. Im just really struggling with the 2ww. Feels like a lifetime of waiting and analysing every cramp and twinge Sad

Russkispy · 06/03/2019 21:03

@Meownow9 sorry about BFN. It's just shit! What's your next move?
@AliceAbsolum hope you get the answers! My plan B would be DE which I briefly discussed with my doctor. More discussion to follow and more in depth.
@Cns12 welcome to the thread and hopefully 2ww passes quickly for you. Try to stay away from early testing
@PrayingandHoping congratulations!
AFM, today was the last day of stims. Did my trigger a couple of hours ago and all set for EC on Friday morning. DH is flying over tomorrow night.

Meownow9 · 06/03/2019 21:19

Thanks everyone.

@Russkispy it really is! We've got a debrief with Guys on 1 April so we'll see what they say, and would also like to get a second opinion from a different clinic, just to see. I don't want to blindly rush into a sixth round.

Best of luck for your egg collection on Friday. Know you've been through a lot too x

Ginandtonic31 · 06/03/2019 23:51

@Meownow9 I’m teally sorry to read it’s BFN. Good luck for your follow up. You’re very strong 😘

@Russkispy good luck! I can’t believe it’s a week since I triggered already! How are you feeling about it all now?

Tomorrow is our day 5 call. I’m on edge until I know. Then on to the next worry stage after that. Waiting for test results. Never ends!!

Evie8010 · 07/03/2019 09:41

Hi ladies got a BFN this morning not too surprised as I didn't feel similar to when I was pregnant before. Just gutted as we have no other eggs so have to go through the whole thing again :-( Have any of you left gaps before going into the next cycle ? I just feel I need a break from it for a month or two

Russkispy · 07/03/2019 11:07

@Evie8010 I'm sorry to hear about BFN. We had BFN in December and tried naturally in January which resulted in CP. and then started IVF once I got AF.
@Ginandtonic31 did you hear anything from the clinic?

Ginandtonic31 · 07/03/2019 12:39

Oh I’m sorry@Evie8010 it must be devastating 😞 it’s the thought of starting a new round back at the beginning that’s daunting isn’t it?

I got the call as I was writing a reply. 15 have made it to the freezer and to test 😦I’m in shock.

Russkispy · 07/03/2019 13:55

@Ginandtonic31 that's fantastic news! I assume you'll have a FET once testing is done?! And how soon would it happen?
