Welcome clomiphene citrate people!

Come and chat about all things Clomid.

I'm Alice
33 years old
TTC#1
Cycle 31

Had all the tests and finally got the go-ahead today (a prescription and letter in the post!) So bit of a surprise. Will be starting on CD2 in about 4 days time hopefully.

Scared, excited, nervous.

Morning all, hope everyone is ok today. Xx

GettingImpatientNow · 18/07/2018 12:40

Hi @angel2028, do you have your appt today? Hope things go well and move quicker for you than they did for me. Was about 8 months all in from gp referral to reach diagnosis of unexplained infertility, and even then they wouldn't prescribe clomid. Went private then (cue another few months of initial tests) and they agreed clomid was most sensible first step and we're really surprised NHS consultant didn't try it. Frustrating, as it all feels like wasted time. Never asked for sti tests though.

3rd day of clomid today and I don't know if my moodiness is down to that or just me being in a bad mood! No other side effects though. Got first scan on Saturday to see how my follicles are growing!

angel2028 · 18/07/2018 16:32

Hi @GettingImpatientNow
Yes initial consultation was today. They did an ultrasound. Counted my follicles and gave me full results from AMH test. Essentially it seems that the SA is fine and I have a high AMH but I'm not ovulating so need treatment as expected. I have a hycosy scan booked to check my tubes and have to have a chlamydia screening before that. If tubes are ok then I have the option of gonal f injections or clomid. Will all be dependant on scan results so will know more then.

Good that you're not experiencing too many side effects with clomid. Good luck for Saturday, how often do you need to go for scans? X

AliceScarlett · 18/07/2018 16:53

Sounds productive @Angel! What is gonal f?? I found the hycosy absolutely fine. Slightly uncomfortable but overall it was ok.

I'm having mild AF pain today, like I usually do 4 days before. The consultants secretary called me today and said the consultant will write to me about my 21 day bloods, so I'm hoping I get that ASAP. Least if I haven't I can write off this cycle.

@Jag how are you doing? AF is a tough time :(

angel2028 · 18/07/2018 17:28

@AliceScarlett

Gonal f is an injectable medication FSH. The consultant today recommended it but it is only available privately in my area. Im not sure if this is a nation wide thing as apparently what you get on the nhs varies from place to place. AngryI'm getting my head around the differences between gonal f and clomid but essentially they are both to stimulate ovulation. I think we will see what the scan results bring and go from there.

angel2028 · 18/07/2018 17:28

@AliceScarlett
How are you feeling about it all?

AliceScarlett · 18/07/2018 18:23

Resigned to failure really.

AliceScarlett · 19/07/2018 15:02

Cramps today. Pretty sure I'm out.

Half looking forward to a cycle off next month, although I will be on a silent meditation retreat, so not sure how being alone with my thoughts/feelings will pan out during the fertile week. We shall see!

I discovered access fertility recently, anyone seen this?

Snowrose92 · 19/07/2018 22:51

Hey I hope you don't mind me joining in, it's nice to hear from people going through the same things, when no one other than you DH knows.

My apt is on Tuesday which I'm really hoping to start clomid (but also worried what it will do to me), I was turned away 3 months ago as my BMI needed to be under 30, I've managed to lose over 2 stone and BMI is currently at 29.3 so I'm hoping everything goes well Tuesday :)

GettingImpatientNow · 19/07/2018 23:27

Wow @snowrose92, well done for losing that weight - 2 stone in 3 months is crazy! Fingers crossed Tuesday goes well for you.

@angel28, don't know how often scans will be....I'm guessing every 2/3 days? Think it depends how quickly follicles are growing. I'll update after Saturdays scan & results!

angel2028 · 19/07/2018 23:55

@Snowrose92
Sounds like you've done an amazing job! I only joined recently and it's really nice having others to chat to. Wishing you all the best for Tuesday.

@GettingImpatientNow
Good luck for Saturday. Hope it all goes well. Xx

angel2028 · 19/07/2018 23:57

@AliceScarlett
Hope you're doing ok and when you go to the retreat its a nice break.
I've never heard of access fertility?!? Xx

DawnK77 · 20/07/2018 13:17

Hi girls! Can I join please? I sat and read this thread last night, you all sound lovely and I appreciate all the information as had my next app this morning and was given Clomid.... would have been much more confusing if i hadn't read all this thread last night! So thanks again!

tinyradish · 20/07/2018 14:13

Glad you're getting somewhere @angel - I'd not heard of gonal f!

That's great that you have no symptoms @gettingimpatient that's really lucky & I hope it's a successful cycle for you.

How are you doing today Alice? Any more cramps?

Welcome snowrose & good luck for Tuesday!

Hi Dawn, welcome to Clomid club (lol)

Cd18 & haven't ovulated yet. I hope I'm not one of the people Clomid doesn't work for :(

Snowrose92 · 20/07/2018 15:00

Thanks ladies, I do have a question though and sorry if it's tmi, but for the first time in my life on cd14 I've had a brown discharge, as in you could only see it if you wiped, was there for cd14 and cd15 and then gone away again. Any idea of what it could be ? I really don't want to give the consultant any reason not to give me the clomid x

GettingImpatientNow · 20/07/2018 19:52

Hmm, on day 14/15, could be ovulation bleeding, although odd if you've never had it before. Do you know if you've ovulated this month? Or implantation bleeding, but a bit early for that, plus throwing that into the mix generally leads to false hope...
Probably nothing to worry about but worth mentioning at your next appt I think.

angel2028 · 20/07/2018 23:18

@tinyradish I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much at this point but trying to be positive if that makes any sense at all.
It will all depend on my hycosy scan. So going to try and relax my brain before then. I had never heard of gonal f but my partner is aware of it as like I said he had to have fertility treatment with his ex. 🤦🏼‍♀️ it didn't work for them but the difficulties were completely different so here's hoping. I will find out more about gonal f at my next appointment and will keep you posted in case it's something that could be helpful for others.

@AliceScarlett
How are you doing hun?

angel2028 · 20/07/2018 23:20

@DawnK77 of course you can join!!! This thread has helped so much since i joined a short time ago. It's the nice part of what we are all experiencing. The support is amazing xx

angel2028 · 20/07/2018 23:22

@Snowrose92
I don't think anything is tmi here. Is this new for you? Definitely think it's worth mentioning at next appt just in case but most likely nothing to worry about xx

tinyradish · 21/07/2018 07:24

CD 14/15 does sound like ovulation bleeding? Can't think what else it could be!

Yes angel as hard as it is to relax with all this going on, we really must try. So hard though isn't it. Take care & good luck.

What happens if one round of Clomid doesn't work? I'm wondering if they'll give me a higher dose? Sad

AliceScarlett · 21/07/2018 07:25

Hi Dawn, Clomid Club welcomes you 😁

@Snowrose92 Never TMI! We discuss cervical mucus at length, the bar is set waaaay low. And on that note: I had the same thing for a few cycles, but it was sometimes slightly later (cue obsessive googling about implantation bleeding), anyway I went to the GP as NHS advice is to get any mid cycle bleeding checked out. She said (she really did) make sure it's not just wiping too far back and getting a bit of poo on the paper Shock. It wasn't that! I had an internal scan, they found a 5cm cyst on one ovary and a fibroid, so they just put it down to that. But at the end of the day no one knows. I'd definitely tell your GP.

Angel, access fertility is like an insurance scheme for IVF. For example you can pay for 3 cycles at a reduced price and if you don't have a live birth you get a refund. Makes it a bit less stressful I think than missioning it abroad.

I'm in that horrible stage where cramps have eased and I'm feeling hopeful. AF is due in 48 hours so it's all going to come crashing down around me over the next few days. But when things are different on a cycle I get all excited :( for example I always get at least 4 spots a few days before AF and increased creamy CM, this cycle I haven't. I know the most likely explanation is that I'm going to be late on, or the Clomid has changed my hormones, but, like a chump I think to myself "maybe this change means I'm pregnant". But it won't be.

How's everyone doing?

OP posts:
GettingImpatientNow · 21/07/2018 11:33

AliceScarlett, it's a horrible time...telling yourself that your period is going to come just to try and ease the blow when it does, but still not being able to completely get rid of hope so when it does arrive you're kicking yourself for getting hopes up. I wish there was a way to turn our brains off to stop this self destructive cycle - if anyone has any tips let me know!

Had my scan this morning, follicles growing on one ovary and lining all normal, so they think another scan on Mon / Tues but they're confirming this avo after bloods come back.

Anyone else having monitoring during their cycle?

I think we'll consider access fertility if the time comes, just to take the pressure off, but the gamble is that you end up paying £10k+ and get pregnant on first IVF cycle.

AliceScarlett · 21/07/2018 15:03

Brown spotting. Standard.
