Welcome clomiphene citrate people!

Come and chat about all things Clomid.

I'm Alice

Cycle 31

Had all the tests and finally got the go-ahead today (a prescription and letter in the post!) So bit of a surprise. Will be starting on CD2 in about 4 days time hopefully.

Scared, excited, nervous.

@tinyradish thank you.
How are you doing?

Mjlosinghope · 11/07/2018 10:12

You too angel 🤞🏻 Hope they sort something out for you. I’m always seeing people get there bfp on first round or within a couple of months so hopefully will be same for us 😊 x

angel2028 · 11/07/2018 10:37

@Mjlosinghope
Absolutely, keep positiveSmile
Let us know how you're getting on x

angel2028 · 11/07/2018 10:38

DH has SA today but fairly sure that'll be fine as was last time.

tinyradish · 11/07/2018 11:01

I agree, personally can't be thinking about ivf right now either - I don't actually know much about it at all but it has been mentioned if Clomid doesn't work (feeling quite positive atm but will honestly be devestated if Clomid doesn't make me ovulate!)

Welcome to the Clomid club mjlosinghope - really hope it's successful for you & sorry you've had such a long journey.

Hadn't heard about the lining issue with Clomid. Oh no, something else to worry about GrinGrinGrin

AliceScarlett · 11/07/2018 11:57

@angel2028 This is my 2nd cycle. Hope the SA goes ok.

Welcome @mjlosinghope!

I've just ordered pre seed and cough mixture (for better CM as Clomid can mess with that and I've seen no watery or egg white since I started it) and I'm going to have accupuncture next cycle, literally throw everything at it....if I need too.

Sounds good Alice, you're doing everything that you can.

I'm trying grapefruit juice for cm.

angel2028 · 11/07/2018 23:18

This thread is so lovely...I am so new to this but am really appreciating the support. As we are still waiting for our initial appointment I'm unsure whether clomid will be offered or even the right treatment plan for us. However, I have been reading up a bit just to prepare myself. What is the side effects around cm and the benefit of grapefruit juice?

angel2028 · 11/07/2018 23:22

Also, while I'm in the mood to divulge...I wonder if I can ask a question to you all which I perhaps imagine won't be the case for many....ok, nervous about asking but here goes...

Has anyone else's partner been through fertility investigations with an ex? If so, would love to talk. My DH is amazing but I am acutely aware that this is not the first time he has been in this situation and I could do with some help managing my feelings around this. X

AliceScarlett · 12/07/2018 08:02

@angel Clomid can cause reduced cervical mucus which can reduce the chances of conception. I've looked into grapefruit juice and can't really find any research (I'm an evidence-based practitioner working in the NHS, so stuff like that is important to me), but it can't hurt so why not?

No experience of DH previously having investigations, hopefully yours will be used to it and it won't be so hard going for him x

Hi all,
Never posted on a forum before but like most ttc have read 000s! Just about to start my first 50mg clomid cycle so thought it might be nice to share with others.

Been ttc for well over 2 years (have a 3 yr old conceived naturally) and all tests for both of us have come back fine so just in 'unexplained' territory. Having private treatment as not eligible for NHS, so first cycle monitored. I'm about to turn 35 and partner 41.

Was naively holding out from getting my clomid prescription until I started period on off chance this month would be the one (was a few days late) but spotting started yesterday and then found that it's not routinely stocked in chemists so having to do an early morning dash to Boots today! Doesn't help with stress levels!

Good luck everyone! Will watch this thread with interest.

Mol5 · 13/07/2018 14:49

Hi all, may I join the thread?
TTC#1
Cycle# too many to count! 2.5 years in
PCOS and metformin 2000mg daily.

I have been sent round and round the houses at my local NHS hospital for 18months. Final diagnoses PCOS with zero ovulation. Fiance's semen fine. My BMI is 31 so i'm not currently eligible for NHS funding which must be under 30.

We have decided to go private. Can anyone advise what to expect in terms of timeline privately from consultation to prescription for clomid?

Second question - has anyone been prescribed clomid without having had a HSG/tube dye test? With irregular cycles I have not been able to have one yet in 2.5 years of trying to align the dates!!

Thanks all

tinyradish · 13/07/2018 16:45

Grapefruit supposedly helps with cm angel, although there's no research/proof really as AliceScarlett said but it's one of those things that's does no harm to try you know? So I'm having a glass a day. Sorry I don't have any experience with previous investigations but can imagine that's hard to deal with. How do you feel about that?

Good luck @gettingimpatient! Hope Clomid is successful for you :)

Hey mol5 - I haven't had the dye test & have been given 3 rounds of Clomid. If you don't ovulate at all I don't see why they don't just let you try Clomid as that could be all you need! Good luck going private, hopefully it all moves along quickly for you with less waiting than NHS.

Jagzorx · 13/07/2018 23:58

@angel I'm so sorry for my very rude late reply to your question. I read it half asleep one morning and then it must have leaked out my ear onto my pillow cause I literaly just remembered. I'm CD25 now and feeling a bit sad because I did a test on day 22 for some stupid reason and it OH MY GIDDY AUNT THERE WAS A FAINT LINE!!! And I have NEVER had any hint of a line in all the 8 billion tests I've done in the last year. But every single one I've done since has been FLIPPING NOTHING. So now I dont know what to think. Dud test? Or was there a blip of fertilisation that then died?!

Silver lining: I've gotten very accurate with aiming my stream of urine. So at least I've learned a new skill.

Jagzorx · 14/07/2018 00:04

@mol lovely to meet you! About clomid before fallopian tube test- kind of. My HSG was a fail of epic proportions- crying, sweating, gagging- and that was just the doctor! (I jest) I found it horrendously painful (most people are fine apparently) and my fallopian tubes went into spasm (we think) so none the wiser re:tubes. My consultant said she wanted to do a laparoscopy to see what the tubes were like but waiting list is 6 months. She then said I can have clomid in the meantime if I want but I have to be aware of an increased chance of ectopic pregnancy as dont know condition of tubes. I decided I'm low risk anyway (never had any abdominal surgery or STI's) so decided to crack on.

Jagzorx · 16/07/2018 21:28

Well I'm out for this month. AF arrived over the weekend. Really hit me hard, feel really devestated in a way I haven't felt in a long time... :(

angel2028 · 16/07/2018 21:45

@Jagzorx oh hon, sorry to hear your news. Sounds like it's been a tough time. It's hard when AF turns up when you've pinned your hopes. But we're strong ladies and are here to support each other through. Sending lots of hugs. How are you feeling now? Xx

AliceScarlett · 17/07/2018 10:25

Welcome @GettingImpatientNow Good luck with your first cycle, hope you don't find the side effects too bad and it gets you ovving!

@Mol5 Welcome! We have been TTC for the same amount of time...infuriating 2.5 years :(
I am also thinking of going private for my next Clomid cycle as I'm convinced my lining isn't good enough, but my trust don't scan you.
I had a HyCoSy before Clomid as the Dr said there is no point encouraging Ov if the egg can't get down, which makes sense. Very difficult to book in though if you don't have regular cycles! In your situation though I don't know why they just don't do it early on, like the chances of the dye hitting an embryo on the way down your tube are just tiny right?

@Jagorx :( I'm so sorry, to have that happen after a faint line must be so hard :( So difficult not to get hopes up. Look after yourself, these feelings will pass x

I'm 6 days away from AF, had my 21 day blood yesterday. Just trying to sort out a private scan for Sept cycle, because I realised yesterday that I will be away from DH for the entire fertile week next cycle! (If AF is on time and I'm normally regular). So I'm going to skip a month of Clomid.
I'll call up for my blood results tomorrow. Weirdly kind of hoping I haven't ovulated so I don't have to have 5 days of hoping, followed by crushing disappointment when AF shows up for the 32nd time. How ridiculous is that :(

angel2028 · 17/07/2018 12:50

Hi ladies,

Just a quick question...I have initial consultant with fertility clinic tomorrow. Do they ordinarily need STI tests completing before prescribing clomid? I'm not worried about results at all but more the delay this may bring. Am keen to get on with it now.
Thanks x

AliceScarlett · 17/07/2018 13:11

Mine were done at my GP surgery before referral to clinic, so probably. It took them 10 months to prescribe Clomid... NHS can be very slow. Is your clinic under NHS England?

OP posts:
angel2028 · 17/07/2018 13:25

We were referred to nhs clinic but luckily have the option of going private for the initial consultation at least. Hoping that this will speed up the prescription but I guess they will all be guided by prescription guidelines. I know that the consultation will include a scan but not entirely sure what else at this point. Hopefully we will have a clearer picture tomorrow. 10 months seems like a long time. Were they doing tests and things in that time? Xx

Mol5 · 17/07/2018 13:50

Hi @Angel!
I haven’t been prescribed my Clomid yet (private consultation finally on 1st August after 2.5 years of waiting on nhs) but yes they told me along the way that I MUST have had STI tests within the last year. They wrote to my GP and requested an appt for me to do so and I had the tests and results within a week via the GP which was the quickest part of all my fertility testing by miles. Ultimately NHS have to tick all the boxes and check all options and infertility could be caused by an undetected STI etc etc so they generally have to check I think.

Thanks everyone for your advise on HSG tube dye test. Will continue to aim to have one done if my cycles ever regulate enough to get one! Currently CD 47 but finally looking forward to my first private consultation on 1st Aug when hopefully they’ll sign off for clomid! Grin

AliceScarlett · 17/07/2018 17:15

Took 6 months to have an initial consultation and the HSG done. Then 4 months to get the results and another 2 blood tests to show I'm not ovving.---

I'm clearly in a weird place this cycle.... I've never stepped into Mothercare in all my life but I just found myself walking into one today Confused They had maternity jeans down from £30 to £7.50... I nearly brought some! I'm TTC crazy Hmm. 6 days til AF.

OP posts:
tinyradish · 17/07/2018 17:37

Sorry jagzor, take care of yourself.

I've not had sti tests or had them mentioned at any point? I've had nothing other than blood tests & ultrasounds & was given Clomid straight away. Quite strange really but I'm not complaining.

tinyradish · 17/07/2018 17:49

Alice... That is a bargain though Grin
